I've enjoyed every show I've been to so it was hard to place one as the worst, but any of these could change a place or two at any given moment
2008 - Camden, NJ 1
2009 - Philadelphia, PA x4
2010 - Newark, NJ, New York City, NY x2
2012 - Philadelphia, PA
2013 - Chicago, IL, Philadelphia, PA x2, Hartford, CT 2016 - Philadelphia, PA x2, New York City, NY 2, Fenway 2
2. Philly 1 2013 I was more of a casual fan then and it was my first show. It was still really fun but I only knew songs from Ten, Yield, Avocado and Backspacer. I went with my aunt who is a die-hard PJ fan so it was fun to experience my first PJ show with her.
1. Seattle 2013 I go back and listen to the bootlegs and they are tied for me so I just have to go with my memories and flying to Seattle for a weekend to see PJ (and they play Let Me Sleep, one of my favorites that never gets played) takes the cake for me. Not to mention that I was stupid/lucky enough to scalp for tickets at the venue and find one. I find my seat in the venue and it is next to the guy who sold his spare ticket to a scalper because his girlfriend had her flight cancelled. The craziest part is that this guy is from my area and his girlfriend tried to fly out of the same airport that I flew out of on the same day!!! Add the fact that I knew every word to every song except for After Hours (Lou Reed cover), Lukin and Yellow Ledbetter (Does anybody really know the lyrics to those songs?) and its a near-perfect experience.
Looking forward to Denver 2014!!! Hopefully a new #1!

ok.. i rank my shows, first of all of what i saw on stage..band performance, setlist and crowd and venue and how fun i had personally etc, play it role, but how good was the band, their energy, how they played as band,as musician is the first criteria.. .for exable,at Stockholm 14 i had so great fun with amazing friends, had handshake with eddie and small talk on the rail about who im and my flag and my why now u dont bitching shirt, drunk his wine ..but the show isnt even in my top 20..same Milan 14,sure is Special when u get a tambourini, like i did or Met Mike the day before at Duommo ,but isnt in my top 10 shows
now,there are 4 shows..i cant rank..cos it wasnt just shows..was siomething different..
1. Berlin 10...the ones was there can understand..that experience was unique and we honored the 9 friends we lost....show doesnt mattered that day
2. PJ 20.night 1 +2...that was a birthday party weekend ..shows was nothing infront of all those thousnad of people from all over the planet was there to celebrate the 20 years of the best band on the planet... the whole weekend is something stays in you for ever and setlist, guest and show isnt the main thing..the main thing..was that feeling and the eyelook and the smile everyone had that weekend was feeling ...like you grow up with all those people in the same neighborhood
3. Wrigley 13...i choose to go to that show for non PJ reason..was for something else i want to be in that venue that day..the show was really good, setlist epic..fantastic the stadium...i want to remember that show for the feeling i had when Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns started playing and the reason was played and not rank it..

It's nice to see Toronto 1, 2011 so far up on people's list. Damn that crowd was amazing! And the set was incredible....wish I could have stayed for night two.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......

Ok, some things that I found out about myself and the band..... PJ rarely play their best shows in the ATL. Yield Tour was by far my overall favorite tour. And I am definitely influenced heavily by nostalgia. The longer ago the show... the sweeter the memories in some cases.
2000- Atlanta, GA: New Orleans, LA: Memphis, TN: Nashville, TN

fuck I can't even tell you anymore, all I can tell you is they have all kicked ass, they have all had special moments, and they have all made me want to see them again immediately.
How do you quantify the awesomeness of the Vic's set, PJ20, The sheer awesomeness of Soldier Field, your first show, all of Yield, all of No Code, PJ at MSG.....can't do it
2 out of the three shows I saw this year easily made my top 5 out of 12 total shows)
1) Brooklyn 2 '13 2) Hartford '13 ( this could almost be a 1a, but Brooklyn's set makes the difference) 3) Hartford '10 4) Boston '10 5) Hartford '98
(Montreal '11, MIA / Philly '12 & Mansfield 2 '08 get honorable mentions, but can't touch those top 5 for me. Wrigley was also a great experience, but the rain delay & 2 hour walk back to the loop are big enough drawbacks to keep it off my list.)
Sweet Jesus, now I have to somehow fit the 39 song 3 hour & 20+ minute spectacle that took place in Denver into this list.
How can this band keep getting better? It seems impossible, but it's happening!
Off the top of my head... grouped in chronological order... it would really hurt my brain to rank then in order... I have been pretty lucky the last 12 years of live shows
Group A: The Gorge '05 Borgata 2 '05 Philly '05 The Vic '07 Spectrum 3 '09 Spectrum 4 '09 MSG 2 '10 Wrigley '13 Charlottesville '13 Moline '14
Group B: Camden 1 '03 MSG 2 '03 Boston 1 '04 Reading '04 Montreal '05 Ottawa '05 Albany '06 DC '06 DC '08 MSG 1 '08 MSG 2 '08 Philly 1 '09 Philly 2 '09 Philly '12 Philly 1 '13 Philly 2 '13 Baltimore '13 Memphis '14
Group C: Camden 2 '03 Asheville '04 Camden 1 '06 Camden 2 ' 06 E. Rutherford '06 Camden 1 '08 Camden 2 '08 Charlotte '13
Gorge 2005 Boise 2000 Vancouver 2013 Seattle II 1998 Missoula 1998 Calgary 2009 Vancouver 2005 Vancouver 1998 Seattle II 2000 Gorge II 2006 Vancouver 2011 Gorge I 2006 Vancouver 2000 (Commodore) Vancouver 2003 Seattle I 2002 Seattle 2013 Seattle II 2002 Portland 2000 Seattle I 2000 Seattle II 2009 Seattle I 2009 Seattle 2001 (Groundwork)
It's pretty easy to do my top 6. I found it easy to list those. It gets harder after that because you know the shows you go to where it feels like the band went above their own bar (since their own bar is high every show is damn good, some are even better).
I was surprised when doing the list how many Seattle shows I put at the bottom. It seems my favourite Seattle area shows were outdoor ones (Gorge and Memorial Stadium in '98). The 2001 show goes to the bottom because I've never seen anything like that. PJ showed respect to REM and insisted they get the closing set. Thus PJ played before them and only for 50 minutes. It was a hometown crowd and everyone was in there to see pj. People were shocked that they played for less than an hour. R.E.M. got considerably longer but the crowd wasn't there for REM. I would say about 2/3 of the arena bailed out before or during REM's set... it was crazy. PJ shouldn't have insisted REM close in PJ's hometown... it made for a wierd show. Pretty dissapointing really (even tough PJ's set rocked).
No outdoor shows at the bottom either. I really like outdoor shows. I was also surprised I ranked the one bar show I've seen in the middle. It was awesome seeing the band play in a bar, but sometime's it's the larger venue that makes nights magical.
btw Seattle 2013 is only down that low because I had the shittiest seats I've ever had to anything. Upper deck behind the stage. The lighting rig blocked most of the view ot the stage. The only person I could see was Eddie and only if he was standing between the lighting rig and the metal bird. Whenever the metal bird lowered I couldn't even see that. TM didn't mention obstructed view until after they showed up in the mail.. ugh... So my view of that show is completely biased by the tickets. Whoever said it doesn't matter what tickets you have to a show was full of it. Awesome tickets totally make shows better
for only 7 shows, i have seen some killers! Here's the rankings with a highlight/note on each. 1. Vienna '14 6 Rows deep, this show speaks for itself 2. Trieste '14 8 rows deep, first time seeing Deep 3. Milano '14 Release opener huge crowd, underrated setlist 4. Columbus, OH '10 Oceans opener! Alone was amazing 5. Buffalo "13 First Rats (love that one) and PERFECT Immortality 6. Cincy '14 Completed LB with SBM, Parachutes, All Those Yesterdays! 7. Pittsburgh '13 Band's first Pendulum, Unemployable rocked.
I think it is easy to get caught up in recency bias here, so I'm probably pushing back too hard in the other direction, and seat location is also a major factor, but here's the list:
1) Constitution Hall, DC 9/19/1998 2) Irving Plaza, NYC 5/5/2006 3) Moline 10/17/2014 4) Milwaukee 10/20/2014 5) PJ20 II 9/4/2014 6) PJ20 I 9/3/2014 7) Wrigley 7/19/2013 8) Seattle 12/6/2013 9) Milwaukee 7/8/95 (first show) 10) Philadelphia 4/28/2003 11) Albany 4/29/2003 12) Chicago 8/24/2009 13) DC 5/30/2006 14) Dallas 11/15/2013 15) Uniondale, NY 4/30/2013 (a mostly forgettable show until the surreal Bushleaguer immortalized on PJ20) 16) Columbia, MD 9/18/98 17) Milwaukee w/ Petty II 6/30/06 18) Chicago 6/29/98 19) Columbia, MD 9/4/00 20) Hartford, CT 5/13/06
they've started to blur, but the top 3 are still easy. 1)ithaca 91 2)charlottesville 13 3)philly 3 09
and i've always thought the bono hatred around here makes everyone overlook toronto 05 - release, blood, harvest moon, leaving here, love boat captain, half full, a full verse of a sort of homecoming, present tense, ledbetter, getting 6 songs after indifference...

How do you quantify the awesomeness of the Vic's set, PJ20, The sheer awesomeness of Soldier Field, your first show, all of Yield, all of No Code, PJ at MSG.....can't do it
How can this band keep getting better? It seems impossible, but it's happening!
2. Wrigley 2013
3. Chicago 1 2009 (first show)
4. PJ20 2011 both nights
5. Noblesville 2010 (oddly enough used to be #1)
I don't know if the shows get better with each one I go to or if they all just combine for all sorts of awesomeness..... I'm thinking the latter
