    UK PRESS

Natalie's trip to London was a great success and both the album and her concerts yielded overwhelmingly positive responses.

'There is something quietly magnificent about her vocal presence, always perfectly set in unshowy arrangements that blend organic instrumentation with sombre yet luxurious orchestral shading'.
    - Daily Telegraph, CD of the Week

'One of the most beautiful and distinctive voices in the whole of rock and pop music'.
    - Bob Harris, BBC

'Merchant is in terrific form. The self-produced album is a confident and thoughtful affair, with lyrics that cleverly mix the personal with the political and exquisite arrangements, from the rich orchestration on opener 'Ladybird', to the stripped-back Americana of 'Texas'. However proficient the music, it is Merchant's mature, versatile voice that steals the show'.
    - The Times

'Almost two decades as a solo artist have produced only five albums. Still, while Merchant lacks quantity, quality isn't an issue and her sixth album is by turns thoughtful, moving and fiercely intelligent. There's wisdom and loveliness to spare'.
    - Q Magazine

'Merchant's first album of original recordings in 13 years is a stonker. An adult pleasure'.
    - Mojo

'It is 13 years since Merchant released an album of original material and this striking offering suggests she hasn't lost her mojo over that lengthy hiatus'.
    - Irish Independent

'Natalie Merchant remains a singular talent'.
    - Irish Times

    TALK TO US ABOUT TIGERLILY

2015 will mark the 20th year since the release of Natalie’s first solo album, TIGERLILY. To celebrate the occasion, she plans to recreate the album with entirely new arrangements. In addition, a documentary film is being made as part of this 20th anniversary. The directors will be at select venues this summer with cameras to capture footage of fans speaking about the album and how it impacted them. You can also participate by writing your impressions to contact@nataliemerchant.com and arrangements will be made to film the most compelling submissions in August and September.

    What a great idea Natalie! *-:) =D>

Natalie has created a new music video for her song "Lulu" cut to the classic silent film "Pandora's Box" (1929), starring American actress and cultural icon Louise Brooks. The song, featured on Natalie's new album, is based upon the actress's turbulent life.

Old news but always very important:

SHELTER: A CONCERT FILM TO BENEFIT VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Natalie has directed a documentary entitled SHELTER: A Concert Film to Benefit Victims of Domestic Violence that features a group of women living in the Mid-Hudson region of New York State responding to the crisis of domestic violence in their community. Musicians, advocates, criminal prosecutors, victims and survivors all take to the stage, illuminating the darkness surrounding this public health epidemic. SHELTER was inspired by an event for One Billion Rising, a global campaign, initiated by Eve Ensler, calling for an end to violence against women, held annually on February 14th.

Merchant said of the film: "Last year, I attended a local One Billion Rising event near my home in the Hudson Valley. Upon entering, I was confronted by life-sized cardboard female figures, each with a name of a woman, the town where she had lived and the date on which she was murdered by her intimate partner. Fourteen women killed in twelve years. One of the victims had been a neighbor of mine but I had not been aware of her death. My blood chilled. How could be a member of this community in good standing and not respond to this outrage. As the day progressed, I met directors of local shelters, prosecutors, police officers and survivors. I began to envision a follow-up event in which all these phenomenal advocates could be recognized for their work. I wanted to help them present to a larger audience this little understood and rarely discussed public health crisis in our region, in our world that is domestic violence".

And of course Campfire Song (is that the one?) from Blind Man's Zoo with Michael Stipe. Also this one, probably one of my fave songs of them two...
