If they remember the drill. 2006 as a while agoAndySlash said:mcgoverns should be the first place to check, for sure. they hosted the preparties for the petty/pj shows in 2006 so they should know the drill. hopefully they will be receptive to another.

McGovern's doesn't require anything other than a month heads up. It's all on their website. I just figured they would be the best because I like the bar B-)0

Venue is in St. Paul. Nightlife in downtown St. Paul isn't much compared to night life in Minneapolis. They are about 15-20 minutes apart; easy drive/transportation (i.e. cab etc). Light rail should get you between the two as well. I'd stay in downtown St. Paul; there may also be a get-together at a bar in St. Paul on Saturday night, for people just like yourself.mcgruff10 said:Still looking for two extra fan club. Flying in from New Jersey. Thanks
also, can anyone pm me with some advice on hotels? my best friend and I are looking for an area with a few bars, some cool places to walk to and preferably within walking distance of the venue. I have zero knowledge of st. paul/minneapolis. I have no clue how far they are apart, mass transit, nothing. I'll trade advice with someone if they are going to nyc in the future. Thanks you again.

We shouldn't have to "reserve" anything because it will be an open to the public event. It is more getting the location secured before someone else might. Plus, they will have to make sure they can/will play PJ the entire time, so maybe we can provide them with the bootlegs from both of the 2006 shows along with a little LB sprinkled in? They will benefit immensely because all of the pre-concert publicity for this event will be promoting their bar as "the place" to be that nightDirty Frank Z said:McGovern's doesn't require anything other than a month heads up. I think he just means reserve the set up space etc. (room for raffles, emcee, money taker etc). Its obviously going to be open to the public, but we don't want to show up that day and find out another group had the same idea.adoffin said:

Might be a good idea to reserve some area for them and ensure they will play good music. Personally, it would break my code to listen to PJ on the day I'm seeing them live. Haha! But yes, I agree, we should make sure they will play our stuff and that they have space.1998-06-30 Minneapolis

1 day closer to the show bump. I like the thought of Hard To Imagine being played, but how about an Oceans opener for the land of 10,000 lakes?1998-06-30 Mpls | 2006-07-06 Las Vegas | 2010-05-03 Kansas City | 2011-07-01 St. Louis EV | 2011-07-02 Mpls EV | 2011-09-03 PJ20

Just some comments on the Pre-Party...
1. Welcome adoffin! Glad to see you've had experience with fund-raising events and have got the ball rolling. I think it's great that we can all join forces and make this PJ preparty even more kick ass together!
2. Party Planning Committee - McGovern's sounds like the favorite venue, and I'd agree with Diddy that we should "scope things out", have some beers, and start talking logistics with each other. I'd be game Friday or Saturday, or we can look at later. We've got time on our side!
3. Prizes - We could start a list of prizes amongst ourselves (not to be posted on the forum yet!). I personally have vinyl and posters to donate, and I'd agree with Vant that good pre parties have quantity, but also quality of prizes.
I'm thinking out loud, but since we have time, rather than just collect items people are willing to donate, what if we organized a raffle on the forum (open to all) to generate funds to purchase something highly sought-after, like even a Benny? It would take work up front, but imagine the draw that would have for people to the event, which would raise even more for a good cause in the end.
All in all, I think we're ahead of the game, and I'm so very excited to be a part of this!

cross posting in case people are curious but not following the mystery box thread...
fatty mcgee here got his xxl mystery box and here it is:
The Who/PJ HOB 2002 Hat
Red Canada 2011 Tour T-shirt (dates on back)
Burnt Orange Old West Saloon T-shirt
Melbourne N1 2006 Poster
Brisbane 2009 Poster
White Fixer/Supersonic 7" (still with Target price sticker!- must have had these returned)
Nothing As It Seems 1-track promo CD
Nagoya Japan 2003 Bootleg
Tres Mts CD
Brad CD
Benaroya-era(?) 10c renewal postcard
Backspacer Bouncy Ball
Backspacer Space Drummer Sticker (or tattoo?)
Johnny Guitar Sticker
PJ Europe 2012 Flag Sticker
PJ Europe 2012 Handshake Sticker
Lightning Bolt Window Sticker
My Father's Son promo card (my favorite track on LB, so that's cool)
PJ Superman Logo Sticker
PJ Monkeywrench Sticker
PJ Vulture Sticker
PJ Calgary 2013 Sticker
PJ20 Promo Sticker
Brad Best Friends? Sticker
PJ Wrigley Field Sticker
PJ Wrigley Field Patch
Three Fish Sticker
Hadn't seen anyone with a Japan 2003 bootleg yet so that was the biggest surprise out of the box. The posters don't do much for me so I expect I'll donate those to an upcoming preparty. I'll wear the tees, so that's good. Though everyone is getting them, I'm actually excited to have the Tres Mts and Brad CDs- I probably wouldn't have picked those up otherwise. I'll find a use for the stickers. I was hoping the vinyl would be something I didn't have, so that was probably the most disappointing "get" of the box- seeing the Angel/Ramblings promos and some of the other singles got my hopes up.0 -
