Thinking about my day off on October 18 in Minneapolis. Got any suggestions for hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs?

...will help point you in the right direction...

Definitely recommend checking out the chain of lakes in Uptown (southwest of) Minneapolis as well. Plenty of food, drink, shopping, etc. only 1 or 2 miles from downtown.

Cross the river from downtown in North Minneapolis is a fun neighborhood. And U of MN is nearby also.

    And definitely visit Sex World...

Anything you're looking for in particular?

Probably wont get there until the afternoon. If this a woman, know of any nice places to get my wife and/or little girl a nice present? If this a guy, know of any good strip clubs within a cab ride?
If you're downtown Minneapolis, there are handful of gentlemen's clubs to choose from. Although I can't speak to the quality or local liquor & exposure laws. It's been a long time...

There's a real nice pedestrian mall downtown - Nicolet Avenue between 1st & 12th Streets. You should be able to find something nice for your little girl there, and you can avoid the Mall of America.

Keep an eye on Pollstar, and maybe there will be a show worth catching the night before at First Avenue, Dakota Jazz Club or Cabooze. http://www.pollstar.com/resultsCity.aspx?ID=38154&SearchBy=minneapolis, mn

See my advice re: Sex World for the wife...

Funny you should ask. Apparently we were scooped and are not the "official" preparty planners. Someone else got in contact with Wishlist and is planning it now? Funny also that it doesn't appear to be someone from this thread.

Anyway, I think there's talk (amongst the original group - DFZ, adusick and yourself) of an "unofficial" party planned for Saturday, October 18 at a bar in St. Paul. We'd invite all our out-of-town guests. I say we still do charity and raffles and prizes etc for that.

huh. where is this being planned? or is it just not that far along yet but you were told someone was already doing it?

a party is a party, i guess, and i'll still be happy to volunteer. if the planner is reading this, please post here!

as for bar nights, my wednesdays are softball nights until mid-july or so, but i'm all about a vinyl night when i'm able.

Well, let the mystery organizer reveal himself. My name is Tony and I live in Blaine. I didn't mean to scoop anything, and I wanted to make that clear when I talked to Laura at Wishlist this past weekend. I actually WANT the help of everyone on here and am really looking forward to it, even though most of you probably don't know me (yet). I have past fundraiser experience and really wanted to get my small, local organization (Hope in Grace) involved somehow. Check out hopeingrace.org if you care to learn more about us.

I haven't started planning anything yet, know that McGovern's is the preferred location (as long as it is big enough, Wishlist wants a place that can hold 500+ people), and could use all the enthusiasm that this thread has, and all the people involved who are interested, to make a kick ass preparty that everyone on here can be proud of.

I think there are several people who were interested in helping out with the preparty (myself, Dirty Frank Z, AndySlash, r'peche, kdiddy, adusick) and even met the day the show was announced to start planning (I think I posted it in this thread). It was just a surprise to hear, because Dirty Frank had contacted Wishlist the day the tour was announced and told they would get back to him.

Half the fun is getting together, picking locations, charities and going from there. Sounds like location/charity etc has been done/picked already, which is fine, but I guess that means we're following your lead now. Let us know what you need. It looks like a great cause and I'm sure several of us will donate prizes and whatnot.

    Good luck.

I only mentioned McGovern's because I have seen so many people mention it either on here or the Facebook page. I would love to meet for beers and discuss other potential locations and a plan going forward. Like I said, we need help, and I wouldn't have agreed to organize the event if I'd had known i was stepping on so many toes in order to do so.

So a location needs to be finalized before anything else can take place, and I could use help scouting. There really are only a few locations that would be big enough. What has already been discussed? Do we want to have another local meet up? The only thing that has really been planned so far is one of the charities. The rest is still up for debate.

Still looking for two extra fan club. Flying in from New Jersey. Thanks
also, can anyone pm me with some advice on hotels? my best friend and I are looking for an area with a few bars, some cool places to walk to and preferably within walking distance of the venue. I have zero knowledge of st. paul/minneapolis. I have no clue how far they are apart, mass transit, nothing. I'll trade advice with someone if they are going to nyc in the future. Thanks you again.

Should we meet up AT McGoverns?... get the scouting out of the way? If a 500 person capacity is required, the only spot at McGovners might be the upstairs OR if possible the patio and patio bar.

I'm cool with that...and at some point we would have to speak with the manager to make sure they would be on board. I don't think any manager would mind having their bar SRO for at least 3-4 hours before the show...

As for the 500...I'm sure it is not required per se, but with everyone coming up from Moline and everyone from here, we are going to NEED the biggest, and most convenient place to the X we can find. Great Waters, thanks to their banquet room, is the only other place near there I can even think of right now that would be similar...but McGovern's is just so close to a bunch of other places...even if we have to spread out between two.

No worries. It just came as a surprise to us, because we were told Wishlist would be getting back to us about organizing. So we started discussing locations, charities etc. To then find out that someone's already done it without really saying anything here, it just felt like we were, well, "scooped." That's all.

Again, if you've picked the charity etc, then there's not much else for us to do but follow your lead. Which, again, is fine. It was just a surprise.

Let us know how we can help. From my experience, location should be locked down ASAP. That means figuring out how you can reserve it, if we have access to a PA system, music, getting someone emcee, coordinating drink specials for the party. Then focus on donations (i.e. gifts/raffle prizes). Times 10. The best preparties have lots of prizes. You'll not only raise the most money but you'll have the most attendees and the most people hanging around too. Then, get the word out.

I think there will still be an "unofficial" on Saturday night, more to host all the out-of-town guests that will be in MN that weekend. We can promote the heck out of it the night before too.

mcgoverns should be the first place to check, for sure. they hosted the preparties for the petty/pj shows in 2006 so they should know the drill. hopefully they will be receptive to another.
