It was a great show, but definitely more of a 'greatest hits' setlist than others that I've been to. I guess that's to be expected at a fairly mainstream festival like BDO.

My wife and I were pretty much centre stage, but about 20 metres back. I was quite happy with that, we took our place just after Beady Eye finished at had a good view through the show. Most people around us seemed to be fans. There weren't many drunk idiots around, apart from the one guy who caused a small group to move away from them after they failed to get them to calm down (this was before PJ started). Overall there weren't many wasted people in the whole festival, it seemed quite sedate.

I really enjoyed Sirens, it's probably my favourite off LB. I must admin to not remembering a couple of the other LB tracks until I read the setlist this morning :-p Nothingman, Daughter, Go and Porch were great too.

One other nice moment - one of the children on the right side of stage looked to be disabled, they were in a wheelchair/buggy. I've no idea who he or she was, but it was touching that Eddie went over during one of the solos (Evenflow?) and spend a minute or so crouched down talking to them.

Wow! What a Fantastic day and the show topped it off!

I'd never been to th BDO before and probably would never had gone if PJ hadn't played. However I thoroughly enjoyed the day and overall the festival looked fairly well organised. Having said that I cant compare it to other previous events or festivals as I wouldnt normally attend.

Went for a look around after enjoying a few 'frothies' down the back and couldn't believe how close I could get to the stage during Primus' set. So I decided to hang around and watch the other acts on the main stage to cement my position close to the rail on Mike's side.

Pearl Jam were just awesome!! Reading reviews from the NA tour before Xmas really set high standards for the band and they didn't disappoint. From the outset they were on fire! They all just seem to be in their prime and enjoying every fucking note!!

Why Go - jumped out of the blocks and the crowd sang every note. Ed seemed to appreciate the singing and crowd energy on this one!! Ed had this wild look in his eyes. He was pumped too!!

Do the Evolution - continued the early energy and the crowd helped out with the singing..not as good as SthAmerica though or the Hartford boot I've been listening to. Ed included the 'Aborigines' line again..which he has done in the past during OZ shows.

Save You, Mind Your Manners and Got Some kept up the momentum with good crowd participation. I loved it when Ed looked over to his kids during the introduction to MYM. The crowd really got into and shouted the 'Mind Your Manners' part.

Of course Getaway was a nice treat and was not expecting that! As it hasn't necessariy been a regular through the recent shows.

LB - is my favourite off the new record and even though I was expecting to hear it there is always that thought that they may skip it for this show just for a change.

Dissident to was a nice surprise too (ALTHOUGH THEY LEFT OFF IMMORTALITY...GRRRR) and crowd favourites Even Flow, Small Town, Jeremy (huge crowd response) and Betterman really kept the crowd 'in the show'.

The one that surprised me was Sirens...A LOT of people around me were right into it and singing every note. It was nice to see!

The encore was awesome...not expecting Pendulum!! Nothingman, Daughter, GO (WHICH INCITED A BIT OF MOSHING NEAR ME a'la 94-95) and Porch was just brilliant. I though Ed was going to spend a bit of time on the globe but he aborted pretty quickly. Mike as always was on his game and his solos throughout the songs were just impecable. Standing on his side its hard to focus on anyone else other than he and Ed of course. I found myself really trying to watch Stone, Jeff and Matt as to not ignore them and enjoy their playing too. Jeff seemed to have a lot of fun with the globes during Porch too!

It was nice to see Mark Arm up there but I think Kick out the Jams lost the crowd a little..albeit a good song! (was hoping for Baba!) And Alive of course was a perfect closer!

At the end the crowd hung around expecting even one more and chanted 'Pearl Jam' for a bit. However as with the previous two shows the curfew was pretty tight and you couldnt not complain...the band gave everything.

All in all a top show by a band at the top of their game!

For me personally only a few songs I hadn't seen live before...Go, Setting Forth, Low Light and Nothingman (besides LB songs) but part of me was equally pumped about the reaction the classic songs got from the crowd and singalongs they envoked just helped make the show just as special as to any I'd seen previously (and that includes Melbourne 2009).

Thank you Pearl Jam. Hope they return again in the near future.

Hope to see some of you at the Ed solo shows in a few short weeks. Hoefully I get to hear Immortality there ;)

BDO wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but having said that Pleeeeeease don't play one again!!! I'm getting too old to stand around for hours listening to other bands that I don't like. I had sore feet and a back ache before the show began.
However the show was great and it was nice to have a cool breeze blowing all night.
Highlights for me was Jeremy, Nothingman and better man. I also would have preferred black to kick out the jams.
Great to see Eddie and his family on the side of stage enjoying Cosmic Psychos gig.
Im so happy with my righteous self..

Did anyone have a problem with the sound at the Melbourne show? I read some comments on Facebook earlier that people were not happy with it.

I went to the Gold Coast show and managed to snag a spot on the barrier down past Stone and although the view was great, the sound left a lot to be desired. Mike's guitar was inaudible at times and was drowned out by Matt's drumming and Jeff's bass.

10 club could a message be somehow passed onto the band's sound technicians so it is better for the rest of the Australian shows?

    Thanks.

Was close to stage, sound was good there but could understand the boss ticket people being unhappy, that was a joke of a set up really, BDO is average until PJ hit the stage

Ed says that the next song is for three great men sitting right over there and names them. He is referring to some people on the side of the stage

He was talking about the kids. He dedicated another song to them, later, too. I went and saw Cosmic Psychos and Mudhoney earlier in the day, and Eddie was hanging out at the side of the stage with their families.

Got 4 th row in front of ed, which later became 7th row... Due to the aussie Bogan crowd moshers who just shoulder charged their was in.

I must've been pretty close to you, I think I was about 8 rows back but got pushed forward by the bogans (and had to help guide a crowd surfer over the barrier). Got there about half way through Beady Eye, who clearly didn't want to be there. Awful.

The show was pretty good. Their newer stuff is better live than on the records, and I had Porch in my head all morning and got to hear it, so that was nice.

I posted a few clips here if you're interested.
  • Glad I went. Took my brother to his first PJ gig.
Good festival set although I much rather (along with most 10C-ers) to go to a dedicated show. We made it pretty close to the stage even without camping out.

I went from work to Cosmic Psychos -> Mudhoney -> Northlane -> PJ

Band had good energy although I prefer the performance of a more intimate gig. Solos were held back, no Ledbetter, seemed like a tight schedule.

Mike's new SG- Gibson or Lolar pickups? Couldn't read it and not sure who actually stamps their covers. (Gearhead much? :P )

Had an amazing night, loved the sirens outro and the guys all seems to be the absolute best of mates on stage which was really enjoyable to watch. It was my first time on the fence and couldn't believe how engaging it was! They are so captivating up close and they make sure they look everyone in the eyes down the front. The Eddie high 5 was a highlight for me whist distributing wine to the smart few who had cups on the fence. Met some 10 club members at a pub in flemmington before hand which was great. I will have to use the forum a little more now to be savvy with the pre-show parties for 10 club personal.
Is anyone catching up for drinks prior to the Eddie solo show in Melb at the Palais? Would be great to get involved for pre-drinks!!!

Show # 15 for me. Got there at gates open and got a good spot on the rail directly in front of Stone.

Loved Why Go as an opener. Got the crowd going royally.I hadn’t heard Save You and Dissident in over 10 years so they were great also.

Anyone who wants to see either Getaway or Low Light should follow me to my next show. I’ve got Low Light at my past four shows and Getaway at my past three!

All in all was great to see PJ up this close. My only downer being that not one of the 26 songs played was one I haven’t heard previous! Can’t complain though!

I had a fantastic night with great friends (new and old) everyone around me was singing and getting along great. We were about 20 metres from the front on Stones side. Not being able to hear Mike would be my only complaint.
Unexpectedly i shed a bit of tear during Given To Fly.
    Thankyou again Pearl Jam! :)

This is the third time i have seen Pearl Jam and it was by far the best!!! Besides the people who were not even watching and chatting during the start of the set, i loved every minute. The first time i have been so close ( in seating area for other concerts) and the atmosphere and enthusiasm (eventually) of everyone was fantastic. Sang myself hoarse and the energy from the stage was awesome!! During "Betterman" the guy next to us proposed to his girlfriend... pretty surreal moment but we all high fived and shook their hands( don't think he understands the true meaning of the song but hey it was a great moment). Looking forward to Eddie"s solo shows in a few weeks... Life is pretty good at the moment :):)

I hope someone has sent a complaint to the Big Day Out people about the Like A Boss tickets. For $285 each you would expect something great. :-L

  • I love the fect that they played Pendulum at the start of the encore.
I was kind of hoping for that to happen. It is too good a song to just use as an opener.
And it offers the posibility of a really trippy encore.

Arrived half way through the set of Beady Eye after seeing Mudhoney and grabbing a bite to eat. Still easy to get close to the stage was about eight rows behind in front of Mike.
Beady Eye wasnt bad it but they looked so bored, someone even threw a shoe to Liam even that s didn't seem to bother him to much.

As soon as the first notes of Why go started it was 2 1/2 hours of high energy which seem to fly by so quickly but enjoyed every moment of it, the sound was great from where I was standing. Eddie seemed to struggle to find his words during his talking between songs and was slurring a bit, guess he already had finished a bottle before the show, it didn't affect his performance in any way though.

Mike is fantastic to watch he is giving his all and the energy coming from him is captivating. The weather turned out to be perfect it was truly a great night.

I personally found Gold Coast clearer and better to listen to.....
