i didn't get any help (not even advice) on school work at all.. AT ALL  except i got dad to do all my tech studies homework as if i need to know electrical shit!! anyway.. i like what you're doing Kylie!
I used to ask my dad for help all the time for school and he's sit there and explain it to me until I understood. He didn't "do it for me"...he'd teach me. And that is what I'd like to do.
I don't know if I'll be able to trust 'some' teachers enough....if my kids clearly doesn't know fractions, I think I'll be the kind of mother who will sit there at the kitchen table teaching them!
My niece is in grade 9 and my sister and her husband definitely haven't given her a lot of help with assignments etc and last week dad asked her what 8 x 8 is and she got all shitty saying "I hate maths" ie didn't want to answer in case she got it wrong. She's not dumb at all and is excellent at english, however it is obvious her maths skills are lacking and all those teachers in primary school didn't pick it up OR didn't do anything. And it was a "good" primary school too. That's scary...

EEEEEK  that's something you'd want to monitor CLOSELY for sure.. all it takes is one slack teacher.. or one teacher burdened with too many kiddies to teach and things can easily let slip..

Yeah....IMO....I'd rather concentrate on making sure the teachers are teaching properly. If there's something, I notice my kids need more work on, I talk to the school about it.
They do things so differently to when I was taught....for me to try and teach them would just totally confuse them when they're at school and s'posed to be doing it a different way.
I'm not saying I refuse point blank to help. Eg; if they need to know how to find info or something, I'll show them how - once and make sure they understand for future....things like that......but I will not tell them any answers or where the answer is....only how to look for it.
I do a lot of 'times table' work with the boys at home. It's something I spoke with the school about (they don't learn them nearly enough!) and they have started doing more....but it's something I feel they need to practice at home as well.
I do a 'look, cover, write, cover, say' thing. They read the times table, cover it and write it out 5 times and then have to say it out loud to me 5 times. It seems to help

They don't reach times tables as much anymore or something?!?!?
It's interesting hearing your views. I really have no idea. It's just what I 'think' I'll do....but you're views are making heaps of sense and shedding a new light on it....
COOOOOL !!! would love pearl jam to cover it one of my fave INXS songs
There have been several "PJ cover song" threads and I have stated several times I want PJ to cover "Don't Change". Fucking GREAT song. I'm so glad I got to see Inxs before he died....I was 15.5 years....and touched his water bottle -- but some big fat chick grabbed it out of my hands! Grrrr!
Great minds think alike....and we even have the same birthday....weird!

How's your tooth?
Like I say...I'm not saying how I think it should be done.....just how I do it. Different things work for different people and all this works for us.
One thing I've noticed with a lot of people (including myself).....they have all these set plans on how everything will be done before they have children and a majority of the time it never happens the way they plan......you figure it all out WHEN you've got them all children are different (all three of ours are nothing alike) and times change - every year things change etc etc etc
