    Exactly.

I recall I didnt get into this song until much later...I had my headphones on and I was running along the ocean and it hit me like a ton of bricks.

The bonnaroo performance has to be the "best" performance of it from 2008, same with wma.

I got a few different 08 boots to hear all the different wma's and was disappointed by them.

I think who you are and WMA go great together and would be a great inclusion in encore 1.

I didn't know it was re recorded for RVM... Is this correct? I must hear it now!

And, slightly off topic, does anyone have links handy to hear the original "Alone" and "Hold On" (not acoustic hold on) from before the re recording on lost dogs? I have heard them plenty but don't have a copy right now.

    Thanks!

And bring back who you are / wma!!

  • I found it interesting that this is the list of Pearl Jam's number 1 songs from Billboard (Two Feet Thick):

Songs that reached #1 (and the chart type):

    1993 Daughter/Yellow Ledbetter - Mainstream Rock Tracks

1994 Daughter – Mainstream Rock Tracks

1994 Daughter – Modern Rock Tracks

1995 Better Man – Mainstream Rock Tracks

1996 Who You Are – Modern Rock Tracks

1998 Given To Fly – Mainstream Rock Tracks

2006 World Wide Suicide – Modern Rock Track

2009 Brother – Hot Modern Rock Tracks

    Bring it back out!

Can we discuss (take opinions on) the RERECORDED VERSION for RVM?

I remember hearing it (haven't listened in a good while, do not own) when Rearviewmirror came out, and actually being mildly offended that they re-recorded it (the vocals, at least, anyway, at least, in part?) and "fixed" some of the lyrics.

Sort of the same way I felt when I heard the redone Alone and Hard to Imagine.

    Anyone?

Wait, they re-recorded Who You Are for RVM? I can't believe I didn't know that... Also, I'm 100% with you on the re-recorded version of Hard to Imagine... Give me that Chicago Cab version every time.
    9/28/96, 8/28/98, 8/29/98, 8/18/00, 10/8/00, 10/9/00, 4/28/03, 6/22/03, 7/8/03, 7/9/03, 10/2/04, 10/5/04, 10/1/05, 10/3/05, 5/28/06, 6/20/08, 6/25/08, 10/27/09, 10/30/09, 10/31/09, 5/18/10, 5/20/10, 5/21/10, 10/21/13, 10/22/13, 4/28/16, 4/29/16, 8/22/16, 9/26/21, 10/1/21, 10/2/21, 5/3/22, 5/6/22

Well, Alone is on the Go single, and i'm sure, cough cough, you could find a torrent of it pretty easy (also pretty sure PJ isn't gonna flip over a rabid fan downloading a digital copy of the Go single for Alone, lol) ... but the best version of that song, i think, is the demo version, the one on hallucinogenic recipes (same with Hard to Imagine, imho).

Hold On is on gremmie.net as well. Not sure of the genesis of that demo (i mean i don't know how it originally got out in circulation), do not recall ever hearing of it before Lost Dogs, but maybe my memory fails me.

I am pretty sure (based upon listening to the track) that the version on RVM is a vocal retake. Or perhaps more probably eddie just punched in some changes in spots. I don't think musically anything was redone (not even the drums, i don't think). At least, that's what i remember. Tell me if i'm wrong.

Listening to both versions next to one another.

Only difference I'm hearing is, there is a slight fade in on RVM, but vocals sound the same...

    Care to point out differences?

    Thanks
  • would love to hear this in OKC!!!

Jack was the man! I mean, we're blessed to have Matt Cameron for the past 15 years, but I often wonder how PJ would have evolved if Jack were still around. (Or even moreso, had he been around since the beginning.)

I think the same things buddy... And I was surprised to hear Pendulum for the first time and think to myself, "hmm I think maybe Matt was listening to some No Code recently."

uh.okay. as bill cosby said, "CHALLENGE!"

best copy of rearviewmirror i could find(sure pearl jam is thrilled, lol)

    actual song from no code

The line that stuck out at me immediately, which i remembered from my first listen, and you can almost hear it is "punched in" or otherwise an over emphasized vocal take is ...

original version, just after the line
"take me for a ride, before we leave" is:
    "circumstance, clapping hands"

Very clearly, the original, he says "circumstance".

Now go listen to the RVM version.
I don't know what the fuck he is saying, sounds like "avalanche" mixed with "ambulance"
"avalanche, falling fast" ? i don't really know. it ain't the original vocal take for that line though.
right? or am i cracking up here?

And, having just finished the comparison myself now, apparently (to my ears anyway) that is the *only* change. ?tried slowly going through playing a piece of each together. That was all i came up with. The one edit. Why would Eddie feel the need to change that?

I am usually the first one to notice these things.. Will give it another go.

Do you have an approximate time of these lines?

So weird that he changed that... thanks for the analysis. I'm going to listen with headphones and see if I can pick out any other differences...

  • i was absolutely blown away when they blew the dust off of this one back in 2008. i think i shit a brick when they played it in camden. two great shows if you ask me, i think only what, 6 repeats over the two nights. what a great run!
it's largely due to eddie that i liked to jump off of things as a child...
  • One of the greats. Would love to hear this in Seattle...

No Code is a beautiful album. i'd love to see them play every song off that record one show.
