The only rock band that has ever meant as much to me is the Grateful Dead... So I guess Pearl Jam IS my second favorite band! My experience with them has been equally profound, but the Dead came first. Most of my other favorite music isn't really comparable. I'm also fanatical about Dylan, Neil, Beck, Patti Smith, Nick Cave, Tom Waits..... BRUCE!... on and on
I will always have a special place in my heart for the other big boys out of Seattle: Nirvana, AIC, and SG...and even thought the new AIC and SG records kick major ass, I've got to go with a band I discovered just within the last couple years...
QOTSA!!!
19 Pearl Jam shows and still searching for Deep! 1998 (2) - East Lansing & Auburn Hills; 2000 (2) - Tampa & Noblesville; 2003 (2) - Lexington & Noblesville; 2006 (1) - Cincinnati; 2007 (1) - Chicago (Lollapalooza); 2008 (Ed in Milwaukee); 2009 (1) - Chicago; 2010 (1) - Noblesville; 2013 (3) - San Diego & Los Angeles I & II; 2016 (Temple of the Dog in Los Angeles); 2017 (Ed at Ohana in Dana Point); 2021 (3) - Dana Point I, II & III; 2022 (3) - San Diego & Los Angeles I & II; 2025 - Southern U.S. Tour Please!
10/31/93 Berkeley (Baba!) • 10/1/94 Bridge School • 9/16/96 Seattle (In My Tree!) • 10/19/96 & 10/20/96 B. School (Alt Corduroy & Alt Porch!) • 10/25/03 B. School • 6/1/03 Mtnview (Crazy Mary! You Are!) • 11/29/13 Portland (All Those Yesterdays! Even Flow!) • 10/25/14 Bridge School (Rain! Fuckin Up! TOTD!) • 5/13/22 Oakland (had to leave early, but W.M.A.! Immortality!) • 5/13/24 Sacramento (Light Years! Picture in a Frame!) • 5/25/24 Bottle Rock (Last Kiss! Maybe It’s Time w/Bradley Cooper!)
NIN & Radiohead. Pearl Jam always has and always will be my #1 but I refer to the three as my 'holy trifecta'
NIN lost me at a certain point, but their old stuff is definitely right up there. Pretty Hate Machine will forever be one of my favorite albums of all-time. It is utter perfection.

Talk about a band who knew how to grow...I can honestly say there albums got better and better as they matured. Albeit their last one Young Modern was very good but I think they lost their focus with it.
I have a hard time choosing a favourite band when people ask, never mind a second favourite. There is too much good stuff out there!
However, if every band I liked was playing my home town on the same night and I had to choose, the last 2 standing would probably be PJ and Clutch. I'm honestly not sure which one I'd go with. The only solution would be a co-headliner!

HOW AWESOME WOULD THAT BE?! Man, Clutch prior to PJ, that would be the best show of all time, even if both played only their worst songs.

I was recently joking around with my new band mates about calling our spaced-out country band "Lynyrd Cohen"...
