    I've never been an advocate on animal rights and this show isn't going to change that. But it does show the ridiculous and inhumane way these animals are kept.


    The Cove was another disturbing and eye opening documentary on the abuses and slaughter of sea mammals, in particular dolphins.

    Hunt animals... except instead of coming across them and shooting them with a gun... shoot them with a picture. It took every bit of patience to not admonish my colleagues for oohing and aahing while looking through a photo album of African hunting exploits. How does one get their kicks killing zebras?

    I understand someone killing a deer for the meat they can put in their freezer, but I cannot understand trophy hunting.

    I watched this exploitative piece about the exploitation of these intelligent and emotional sea-dwellers. It's a very sad practice to keep them confined in such small quarters and make them do tricks for food. It would be a shame if human deaths end up being the main reason this practice gets banned.

    No I would not want to live in a cage ... fortunately we are not hunted to just be mounted on a wall somewhere. I was being a little sarcastic. I get hunting for substance, I absolutely will never understand spending hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars to mount the animal, that is just sick.

    still working on improvements. Polar bear exhibit in the last couple years. Have rerouted a road(pre-existed) that cut through land the zoo acquired for additional expansion to the north of the current zoo..


    Its come a long way since I was a kid, thats for sure.

    there is no right way to keep an orca in captivity. orcas are highly intelligent and family orientated creatures who stay with their mothers their whole lives. when they are captured for profit(which is the only reason i can see)they are taken away from their families, thrown together with other orcas whose dialect they do not speak and kept in what would be for them the equivalent of a bathtub. they are the alpha predator in the sea... they need to hunt, not to have their meals thrown to them and patted on the nose as a reward for being good orcinus boys and girls for amusing the humans. I can not express enough how much hatred I have for the keeping of these magnificent animals in captivity.

    I watched this a week or two ago, and it absolutely broke my heart. I have always been opposed to keeping whales in captivity because it's very clear to me that the facilities aren't even close to adequate for them even in the biggest aquariums/theme parks, but I wasn't aware of all the other horrors that this movie showed us. I am never stepping foot into any place that keeps whales of any kind captive ever again (the Vancouver aquarium keeps belugas in a pathetically small pool, I am sorry to say, but they got rid of the killer whales years ago... and shipped them off to SeaWorld! :cry: ). I am an advocate for animal welfare - I am a donating member of IFAW - and this movie should be required viewing for all children so that they understand the reality of these fuckin' places, and understand the animals better as well so that their generation can do better than ours in this matter. I am disgusted that keeping whales in captivity is even legal this day and age. It's absurdly barbaric. Hopefully this movie will help to make it illegal sooner rather than later.
