left in the cold is a bit overdramatic, but I do agree that they should've gone with a different option for streaming for those of us who don't use apple products. for me downloading a program that I know I won't use is not an option, also all the crap it installs take up way too much space on my poor old laptop (yes, it's from 2005, I prefer to spend my money on other things instead.)
anyway...with a little patience different possibilities arise. ;)

I'm also frustrated and left out in the cold by 10c. Some of us don't listen to music digitally, on CD, or vinyl.
My car strictly has a cassette deck and don't understand why 10c doesn't offer this as an option. Now there is no way I can listen to my favorite band. Thanks 10c!

Yeah the 10C screwed me as well! I only listen to music through my vintage teddy ruxpin and I hear they are not even going to issue this album on teddy friendly tapes, what a jip! Now how will I ever hear it :(:(:(:(

I hate apple and everything that is related to it.

But I am not hardcore, I installed the damn iTunes, listened to the album... and now I am trying to install it and it's a freaking headache. Windows is complayning about a log file or something.

Can't wait for that Apple wave to pass, just like the last one.... but this time he is not alive to save it from oblivion.
    In love with music

Try searching Pearl Jam in the search box in the corner. Click on the lightning bolt album. That SHOULD bring up a page with a track listing. Under the last track there's a thing that says 'preview all' click that and the album will start playing.
No, that doesn't work (at least for me). All you get with that is a snippet of "Mind Your Manners".

You have to go to the main artist page and click on the album artwork where it says "listen now".

Would like it if I could partake in the official stuff that the band is doing on iTunes. However I do not use any OS from Apple nor do I ever spend money on iTunes. There are other apps, stores and operating systems in the world, please don't support a monopoly.

I've sent emails to the fanclub about this but they come back with no response other than a thank you and they are looking into it.

Hi Brian, I'm just wondering where you're from. Here in Toronto, I know my ISP is part of a duopoly who very clearly partake in price fixing (whether they'll admit it or not). Next, when you come on here, you've come to a website with files hosted by Amazon Web Services - guys who have what's dangerously close to a monopoly on plenty of markets. When you (presumably) bought your Lightning Bolt album, you bought an album belonging to the label of Universal, and which is being distributed by Monkeywrench's pals, Target, in the US! Ever heard of them? Oh, and I would imagine you paid with a credit card - Visa, perhaps? You want to live a life without monopolies? Good luck. Stop fighting the power, go download the world's most profitable company's free, no strings attached media player, and listen to your favourite band's rockin' new album.

Oh, here's a link, in case it makes your life easier. http://www.apple.com/itunes/

Before this thread spirals out of control, I think we all need to look up the definition of the word "monopoly."

A monopoly exists when there is only ONE option for something...not when a certain something dominates (or seems to dominate) the market place.

Target, Visa, Apple, etc. are NOT monopolies. You have other options.
Lost in Ohio, I would like to revoke my statement, as you are indeed correct. I suppose what I should have said was "monolithic corporation standing far above the competition in revenue, margins, profit, and who leave their market space competitors with pennies compared to the success which they themselves reap" rather than "monopoly". Since the OP misused the term as well, I suppose I got caught up explaining the hypocrisies which he or she is forced to live by on what I assume is likely a fairly regular basis.

It was a sign of weakness on my part...
Since I have NO intentions of purchasing this CD.

This place makes me fucking sick every time...

The 10C fan base has become a bunch of bitching and complaining about the most trivial stuff. Get a life people. Enjoy the music.

I've been critical of the bands path over the last few years, but I can't believe what we have become around here.

Well to be fair, the whole iTunes user experience is not user friendly if you aren't used to it (which actually really surprised me). Took me like 30 minutes to d/l install run dig_up_account_info login and then actually find the stream, but I found it eventually. Also as others have said you have to jump thru hoops if you run Linux (as I have to on my work laptop).

I assume they did this thru iTunes so the streams they arent getting any $$$ from are eating someone else's bandwidth.

Very interesting set of responses and it's great to see how some people decided to read and interpret what I said.

As I mentioned I have addressed this with 10C on other occasions as well with zero response, this is why I came here with it. It's not a sense of entitlement, but as a paying 10C member I would like to be able to participate in what the band/club is doing online. This is not limited to just this one streaming audio event but comes to everything that ends up on iTunes or 10C Apps that only work on an iPhone. Just imagine if 10C made the forums only work on IE, thus leaving out all Apple users out of the community they enjoy being a part of. There is no logic or reason for that.

But keep judging or trolling if that's your thing. That's why I've only made a handful of posts across all the years I have been on this site. Thankfully I enjoy 10C members better in person than on here.

I'll listen to LB next week when my preorder shows up.

Brian, I agree with your two main ideas:

    1. I also choose not to download iTunes on my computer because I know that I open up my computer to a bunch of prying eyes. I already have enough of that. I feel if there are things I can control regarding my privacy, I will, and leaving off iTunes is a choice I've made.

    2. When I was reading all the responses to a simple observation you've made, I was thinking the exact same thing you've just stated above: posting anything on this forum opens one up to a barrage of nastiness like the starring role in "Mean Girls." I am one member who has no desire whatsoever to meet other 10C members in person. When I go to shows, I arrive, I listen the music, and then I get the hell out. My feelings about the people around me are definitely colored by the experience here. "Family" my ass.

    iTunes Helper - Useless

Not a single one of these components take up any meaningful amount of memory or processor resources. Unless you're running on a decade old computer, they won't cause any performance issues.

I don't write this as a Windows or Apple fanboy, just a techie who hates when people continue to spread misinformation as fact.

I've revised the list to describe each item's usefulness as a Windows user who does not own any Apple devices.

What I usually find is these items are in the way while diagnosing a problematic system. On their own they're not prohibitive, but when every program from every vendor wants to install this many startup processes (and they all do), that creates a problem.

Thanks for reminding me of why I'm glad I left the Windows world a few years ago.

I agree iTunes sucks, but that's not going to keep me from using it to listen to the album. It is free and can be used on a PC.

However, I have not been able to figure out how to listen to the stream on my Android. Anyone know if that's possible, and if so, how to do it? I attempted isync, but from what I could tell this is only good for tranfering iTunes music libraries. Didn't see a way toisten to the stream.
