I tend to agree with this, although people aren't "forced to borrow just to live". They choose to borrow to buy items unnecessary for living.

    really?

Try telling that to the woman who had to pay for her kid's medicine and food with a Visa because her bank account was empty after her rent was raised and her hours were cut by her employer so she would lose her health insurance.

Actually it has everything to do with borrowing money.

That's the only way the bills get paid, and by bills I mean other loans. Since the credit card example was used I'll do the same thing. We have a credit card with a $5000 limit that is maxed, so we get another credit card to pay off the first and get a little more revenue and now we owe $6000. Well, that $6000 is maxed so we get another credit card with a $7000 limit and max that out to get a few bucks and pay off the $6000 card. It goes on and on.

the debt ceiling has nothing to do with borrowing. If they decided to raise the debt ceiling to $100Trillion that doesn't mean we are borrowing up to $100 Trillion.

Look at how many times the debt ceiling was raised under Reagan/Bush. The GOP is making it seem like an issue when it really isn't. The spending is the issue....thanks to unfunded wars.

    yes and no.

The debt ceiling is the amount to which the Treasury can borrow money (sell securities) to cover the outlays already approved by congress. so yes, the debt ceiling allows us to borrow more money, but no the Treasury department is not the one actually approving the spending of the money. They are not responsible for the debt, they are simply charged with managing it.
The debt ceiling being increased by those that approve the deficit spending is rather crazy. I do know some sort of balanced budget would be a good start to never having to discuss the god damn debt ceiling again. It is an obfuscation of the actual spending addiction that plagues this horrible mismanaged congress. Republicans digging in on this issue are being intellectually dishonest because they have done just as much to cause the need for a raising of the debt ceiling.

Re-writing history seems to be the play of the day in democratic and republican circles.

what did this help when it happened under Clinton? What HARM will it do to the average American trying to make ends meet?

Should our men and women in uniform who are STILL in harms way have their pay delayed?
Seniors who can ill afford to wait for their EARNED SS, should they have to decide which bill or med to not pay or get?

The house GOP are terrorists and should be charged with crimes as such. Send them to Gitmo, a place THEY chose to not do their part in closing.

I dont believe I have said any such thing.

What I have said , is I wish they would do the job they were sent to do and legislate.
You know, come up with a budget THEN sit down with the senate to work out the fucking differences. Continuing resolutions speak to, do the same fucking shit expecting different results. Thats a classic definition of insanity.

never, ever gonna happen as long as obama is the president and the gop is the minority party in the senate.

can you believe that john mccain is actually the voice of reason for the gop these days???? :fp: :fp: :fp: :fp: :fp:

are you upset that your party can not even decide on a strategy? are you upset that your party has alienated every voting block aside from old, rich, or think they are rich, white males?

the gop can not win. why do you think they are passing voting laws to disenfranchise people?

the ranking republicans can't even keep freshmen in check and that is hilarious to me.

the tea party flushed the gop and the whole thing is going down. the gop is gonna reap the whirlwind when they shut down the government.

enjoy yourself while your party implodes on itself. :corn:

Don't get me wrong. Both parties are doing a bang up job. My point was - the pendulum swings, and it swings back. Don't get clouded by what the media is telling you and yor unabashed love orhate for a particular group or segment.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

The Tea Party is dead, it was taken over by neocons long ago.

John McCain is everything that is wrong with Washington. He is no voice of reason.

I'm good with the end of the GOP. But understand that shortly after the democrat party would fail. I welcome both.

Just to elaborate I'm for the full and total collapse of both the GOP and the Democrats. This is all a game to them, nothing changes no matter who has the keys, and we sit here and bicker about one vs the other, left vs right. That's exactly what they want. While they have their known names up front pointing fingers at each other, the rest of them then pass bills that take away freedoms, cost us wealth, and build bigger government. Both love war, both love the banks, both love companies like Monsanto.

When one party collapses either the other will too or a real alternative such as the Libertarian party will rise up. Democrats vs Republicans? It no longer exists. It's either pro-liberty or anti-liberty. It's either Libertarian or Authoritarian. C'mon people, wake up.

Attached is a run-down of the affects of the government shutdown ... which after reading the list, the term "government shutdown" should be revised to "parks and recreation shutdown". Implying that our government is actually shutting down is very misleading. :|

    AND IT BEGINS!

Tossing hot potatos and finger pointing is all Congress is good for. And pointing at shiny objects to distract the public. They are not interested in the good will of this country. Their only purpose is to show how the other side is bad to get votes.

I say give the parks and museums to the states and keep the switch off.

I've read about a dam for Mitch McConnell in Kentucky that had an estimated build of $750M that they only approved $3B, and they sent deceased Frank Lautenberg's wife a check for $174,000.

Frank Lautenberg was worth an estimated $58M when he died.

I'm sure you can google more.
