It is always nice when they mix things up and play songs out of what has become their "traditional" slots in the set list.

I havent listened to it yet...but, is it really a 'pop song.'

Im just baffled when I hear this description of anything Pearl Jam. When I think 'pop song,' I think Lady Gaga, autotune, and electronic sounds for instruments. Am I wrong here?

I wouldnt classify sirens as a pop song. But, it definitely has an 80's pop rock sound especially late in the song. I also think the song would sound less "poppy" if they just removed all of the piano/keyboards.

First off...I really am starting to think I listened to a different tune than everybody else. The song leaks...some say "oh the next Black" "great tune". I didn't believe it and felt I'd judge for myself when I hear it.

It's released and people are going fucking gaga for this song. My first thought "this sounds like Collective Soul". A few more listens and it's not really getting any better.

I don't hate the tune, but it's nowhere near the level of greatness people are putting it at. Greater than Alive?

I agree. I REALY wanted Sirens to be the epic song that everyone is saying it is but to me it's just an OK tune. And when I compare it to the rest of what PJ has released, it falls to the bottom of the list.

    This and this.

It is clearly in the same genre as Bon Jovi. So I guess the question is if Bon Jovi is considered pop.

I listen to Present Tense and wonder where people are coming from thinking Sirens is the greatest in the catalogue. I can't get there.

    yeah im kinda here too.

sirens is a top top song to me, one that is entrenched in my nut already

    But

Alive is a 22 year old anthem that has stood the test of 22 years and still sounds fresh....

I mean Sirens might be but I don't think its possible to say that yet

Bad mouthing a song or piece of any art is pointless. 'This is shit' etc

It's not any bands job to write songs for where you are in your life. It's down to you to see if you're up to speed with where they are. And hopefully you are. And if you're not that's cool. Sometimes albums only make sense to you years and years later.

This is the most polarising song in Pj history. Be interesting to see where we all are in a year.

    This is so true!

I personally have never not liked any PJ song this much. Unless 80% of it is changed live I doubt I ever will. I know they are primarily an incredible live band and EVERY song sounds amazingly better live but I don't see them changing 80% of a song.

They are artists and I respect them for ALWAYS doing as they choose. They have been spot on 99.99% of the time for me up until 2 days ago.

I can just imagine ED live now saying something like..." I know a lot of you may not like this song but FUCK YOU we're playing it " lol

What the majority of the posters on this board need to realize is....not everyone has to like every song and arguing with someone about not liking it isn't going to miraculously make them like it. Different Strokes for different folks. We are all individuals. None of us in our heart of hearts wants to hate a PJ song but none of us are willing to lie to ourselves or convince ourselves we like it, just because it's our great PJ. We are on this board because we all LOVE PJ

For me it's not because it's Bon Jovi -ish

If it was good sounding I'd like it. I like some whack stuff ya'll would laugh at. I actually like Last Kiss

Country music I must admit is my most disliked genre. Country twang can get me ill. If I'm really drunk at a bar and country music comes on I feel like I am gonna puke and have to go outside to get air. This also happens to me with dance beat music. Years ago there was this 4 non blondes remix they used to play at all the bars and that one would mess me up quick!

This song has some of that country twang in it also so that could be why I don't like it at all. I don't see them changing that. I hope I haven't had many beers before they play this at a show  I probably should carry a few plastic bags in my pocket, just in case. I don't wanna be known as the next Boston Puker or the Sirens puker  Seriously though, it's not that country thick so I doubt I'll have issues.

Anyways...I hope everyone calms down and can just respect the opinions of others without bashing them about it one way or the other.

If you love it...be happy you have a great new song to listen to.

I can't wait to hear more of the new songs...hurry up already!!!
    Oh dear dad
    Can you see me now
    I am myself
    Like you somehow
    I'll ride the wave
    Where it takes me
    I'll hold the pain
