I can tell that there are a lot of Pearl Jam fans on the forums that are also big fans of heavy metal and heavier rock. Well I thought I would make a thread just for you guy's :)

So what are some of your favorite metal bands?

Tool, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, and Deftones are just a few of the many that I have!

Metallica, Iron Maiden (mainly first two albums as well as Bruce Dickinson) and Judas Priest are my favourite metal bands. Other heavy metal bands I like to listen to, but not always are Black Sabbath, Machine Head, Lamb of God, Megadeth, Slayer, Battlecross, Halestorm, Slipknot, Disturbed, Volbeat, Ghost B.C., Avenged Sevenfold and a number of other heavy metal/death metal/melodic death metal/metalcore bands that I listen to.

I have not kept up to date with current Metal, but loved
    Sepultura
    Pantera
    Early Metallica
    Slayer
    Carcass
Anthrax (especially with John Bush on Vocals)
    Soulfly
    RATM

I also listen to bit and pieces of other bands but wouldn't say I followed then closely - Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Avenged Sevenfold, Lamb of God
I'll ride the wave where it takes me

If we're counting Tool as metal it isn't even close. Sabbath has a pretty equal lead over everybody else, the probably early Meetallica or Mastodon

Van Halen and RATM aren't really even close to metal IMO.

Digging Mastodon and Gojira right now. The past 10 years or so it has been Slipknot, Lamb Of God, Machine Head, Mudvayne, Devildriver. Growing up it was Iron Maiden, Metallica, Ozzy/Sabbath, Sepultura...there are others that I can't remember right now...

Preist, Maiden, Metallica, i have a lot of younger friends that love Pantera but i grew out of Metal by then.

I think there's a correlation between being a teenager and loving the hard stuff, i'm just not angry enough to appericate it anymore.

I would still count Baroness as a metal band. Their new stuff is metal I think, plus they're still playing metal festivals throughout the summer.

I'm mental for Maiden, except the Blaze era. He sucked.

Apart from that, in terms of classic bands I really enjoy Anthrax, although I must admit I prefer the Bush era. The new album with Joey back on it is the best Joey album there is IMHO.

Out of the more modern bands, I think Deftones are currently amazing. I find their early material to be really immature, and the rapping, oh god the rapping. Now they have cut all that nonsense out, they are great. Koi No Yokan was the best rock album of last year.

There was a good Scottish band in the 90s called The Almighty. They flitted between heavy rock, punk and metal, but their album Crank is brutally heavy and one of the best albums of the 90s.
