I enjoyed both nights even though eddie said the crowd was full of bankers the first night.
Hopefully they'll pay us another visit in 2014
Yeah both nights were fantastic. I think that was just Ed trying to get the crowd going like he does, most of the people there on night 1 were at night 2!2000: Manchester

Last of the 4 gigs at the Gibson Ampitheater. Long Road begins the show followed by Animal and Hail Hail. Ed then announces they are making changes to the setlist and Gonna See My Friend is next. Alone and Nothingman are excellent, Ed adding in the slower/spoken part at the end of Alone. It nicely segues into Nothingman. Untitled leads into Unthought Known (I'd much prefer it lead into MFC!). We're in for a treat nice - All Those Yesterdays making its first appearance since Mansfield III 6 years previously. Wishlist and Present Tense are very good and again Ed says they are making a change to the setlist. This time it is Force Of Nature making it's 2nd play of the tour. I find it crazy this has only been played 11 times in total! The Fixer is next (the night before Ed says this is the best song from Backspacer), followed by Spin The Black Circle and a rocking Porch ends a good main set.
As with the previous night, the 1st encore is all too familar and disappointing. Just Breathe, The End, Lukin, Red Mosquito and Jazz Odyssey. As a standalone show I guess this is good but in a 4 night stand its a huge letdown. Love Reign O'er Me and Blood complete the 1st encore.
Encore 2 begins with State Of Love And Trust and is followed by Crown Of Thorns making its 1st showing since Newcastle '06. Jerry Cantrell joins in on Kick Out The Jams (another song being played for the 1st time in 3 years). Alive is next and Indifference with Ben Harper is left to close the show and the 4 nights.
Excellent main set but the predictable 1st encore lets this down for me.
I really like your reviews, i'd like to ask you what is your choices so far. Personaly, i realy like SLC and both nights in Chicago. After 3rd and 4d night in LA and last but not least Berlin.
Thanks! I try to review the best I can but sometimes I feel I'm writing the same thing!!! 2009-wise I've really enjoyed Calgary, Shepherds Bush, Toronto, Chicago 2, Vancouver, Portland, ACL, LA3, LA4 and San Diego. I thought the 1st half of the main set at SLC was outstanding but thought the 2nd half wasn't so good. Both encores are very good too.2000: Manchester

This gig was played on my 30th birthday. Unfortunately I wasn't there.....
Last Exit starts the last gig of the tour. Corduroy, Severed Hand and an awesome Brain Of J all follow. It's a quality start to the gig, Small Town then lowers the tempo. Amongst The Waves and Johnny Guitar are the 1st songs of the night from Backspacer, Even Flow then interrupts a possible Backspacer trilogy. Unthought Known picks up the Backspacer theme again. Parachutes then makes its 1st appearance in 2009. A tagless Daughter is next and the next 3 songs are excellent together - I Got Shit, You Are and Force Of Nature. I'd say at this point of the tour its the best Force Of Nature yet. You Are is another making its first appearance of 2009. Got Some and Do The Evolution are next and a cracking Rearviewmirror closes a brilliant main set.
Ed opens the 1st encore playing The End with a string quartet. Ben Harper again comes out for Red Mosquito. Again it is on fire. Ed then tells a story of how the band and the crew are all family and how one of the guys, Keith was the 1st of them all to become a parent. Keith is at the gig and so is his daughter Lulu, it's her 16th birthday on the night of the gig. Ed & the band get the crowd to sing happy birthday to Lulu and dedicate Given To Fly to her. They then perform Last Kiss for the fans sat behind the stage before returning to the front of the stage for The Fixer and Life Wasted.
The 2nd encore begins with Why Go and is followed by a sublime Black. Better Man is dedicated to Ed and Matt's guitar & drum teachers, both of who are in the crowd. Both are then invited onstage to play Little Wing with the band. A cover of So You Want To Be A Rock 'n' Roll Star is next, 1st time performed since 2006 and it's excellent, Ed telling a story during the middle of the song. Alive is next and it's rightly left to Yellow Ledbetter with a Star Spangled Banner tag to close the show and this leg of the tour.
Love this show, listened to it 3 or 4 times previously and it's alway good to hear. A fun show with plenty of good moments.2000: Manchester

Very solid review and I agree, it's a fun boot that's very enjoyable. The band, Ed in particular, seemed like they had a lot of fun at this show. Love Jeff's bass on force of nature at this gig.2008: Bonnaroo

Almost to 1993. Still listening chronologically. Can't wait to get some variety in the songs in the set. But still interesting to hear how the songs grow into what they've become. The addition/subtraction of various tags/covers. Hearing the banter and concern that Eddie has had for crowd safety since the beginning are things that really stand out."Not only do you have sunshine but you have better thunder...fuckers." -Ed, Phx 10/21/00
