I don't think fear is the right choice of word, but disappointment.

If Pearl Jam (or any band for that matter) plays a stadium gig, for example, the vast majority of people that rock up will be for the band, and the band alone. When it comes to a festival, it's different. People will still have particular bands they want to see, but the love is spread out. So it goes from being a community of fans focused on one band, to a community of fans spread out over a shitload of bands. The 'family' feel isn't there. It sounds a little wanky, I know, but that is how I see it.

Anyway, if it comes to seeing Pearl Jam at the BDO or not at all, the decision is easy. Shitty and unfortunate, but easy.

Yes, disappointment is the right word because I'd rather see them in a different venue.

If they are on the lineup and will be doing sideshows then I would be really pleased, I would just give the BDO a miss and try and get to at least one show.

You're not alone there Emma. Let's hope for the best.

Just heard from a friend who works at Metricon Stadium here on Gold Coast that the 3 big names will be PJ, Blur & Arcade Fire!!!!!

Like everyone else, I would prefer PJ sideshows, but this is shaping up 2 be a pretty awesome lineup.....

    I will definitely be there:-D

Just like all of the people the past 2 years that "knew" that PJ was playing the Central Park gig......I believe it when I see it Wed am.

PS Blur as a true headliner? How does that happen?

I too feel a little bit disappointed with them most likely to play BDO. The best example of this was last year when RHCP headlined. Chili's would be my favorite band and i enjoyed their set, but throughout, i had to hear dickheads say stuff like.
"What is this? Why aren't they playing Give it Away yet?"
"I reckon they will play Aeroplane next"
"This is shit, they aren't playing any good stuff"

The main point of those comments is people go to a lot of festivals in Australia because it is cool and fashionable. Another example, Over the last decade i have seen the Falls Festival turn into a 'chilled 4 days of camping' to dodge the boys on a footy trip'.

I will certainly enjoy seeing PJ play their set, but i want more memories of their show than hearing pissed dickheads call for Better Man or Jeremy between every song.

    I hear ya.

And you haven't heard the same shit at PJ shows?! I certainly have.

How does the Stadium know???? It's got nothing to do with them- they just host the Event. Anyways...we'll see

btw- Cant see any 16-25 year olds rushing to see the 3 supposed Headliners- I like all 3, but Blur haven't done anything major in years and whilst I love Arcade Fire, they aren't a headliner to me.
In saying that PJ are enough of a headliner to me....

The one thing worse than being surrounded by what people now believe to be the "BDO crowd" (which I suggest isn't a true reflection), is being surrounded by old grumps whinging about PJ playing at the BDO to all these unappreciative youth and people who are "only casual fans" who don't go bananas when Eddie plays "Bugs" or the band play "Breath".

    Agreed!!!
The BDO is what u make of it - I've always had fun there (and I'm 40+)
There r always knobheads in any crowd - even at PJ shows :o
Steer clear of them and u can have a great time.
And if u get the timing right, it's not that hard 2 get into the front D section 4 the main acts.....

No, Blur didn't sell out multiple night in Hyde Park in London, or headline Glastonbury, and Arcade Fire haven't headlined Coachella, and Lolla and ACL festivals  :fp:

Finally some people talking sense, and not making generalisations about the festival, and the people it attracts. With 55k people in Sydney, you get a few bad ones, but in my experience, it is not a blood bath, the majority of people aren't legless drunk, and off their head on drugs. You have your posers, and your douchebags, but hell, you have them walking down the street or at the pub on a friday night!

If PJ play, then be thankful for the chance to see them.

I'm 40+ too and if the Gold Coast BDO is the only chance I get to see PJ in this country next year then I'm going to do it. I think I'm dreading the mid-January Queensland heat more than the actual festival. 8-)

I think in a lot of cases the reason for being cynical about the BDO crowd is people just wishing the band would do a stand alone tour. When the North American tour was announced, I think a lot of Aussies thought a similar Australian run would follow. When the reality doesn't match the hopeful thoughts, we can look to venting our disappointment. And yes, I know nothing is confirmed yet, but I think that is where people are coming from.

And yes, indeed I will be thankful for the chance to see them again - wherever that may be.

That's right. Hey I think it's great that some people love the BDO but in my opinion it hasn't been what it used to be for a long time. Each to their own. Regardless, the fact PJ looks like they will be there is promising that it might be better this time. Arcade Fire does nothing for me to be honest but Blur would be interesting to see.

Don't get me wrong, i would love a stand alone tour, but after all of these years of rumours every year, i really do feel that it is going to happen. Be thankful that they are touring here at all! And if it does happen, then due to the small amount of downtime between shows, and the small number of their own shows that they will be able to do, i truly believe that they will be back here in the not too distant future to repay the faith. A tour without an album to promote! Those ones are the best!
anyways, we will find out in 48 hours :corn:
