it's not in mine either. I love a lot of those songs live, but hardly ever listen to the record. and I probably lack the emotional attachment to it that some people have because it got them into the band...it was released long before I ever started listening to music.
mine is:
binaural
no code
yield
riot act
vs/avocado
I just wanted to say that Ten has never appealed to me all that much... and I don't know why.
In fact, when I first "discovered" Pearl Jam and was told their best album was Ten, I did not get the hype. Sure it had good songs on it, but I think since everyone wet their Pants over Jeremy it got kind of overrated.
Once I heard albums like No Code I really started digging Pearl Jam. I think that album is the epitome of their catalog so far. As far as my list goes, here it is :
1st tier :
1. No Code
2. Yield
3. VS.
2nd tier:
4. Vitalogy
5. Pearl jam
6. Riot Act
7. Binaural
8. Ten
:fp: tier
9. Backspacer
If you're talking about TOP albums... it's CRIMINAL not to put Ten at the top. I put Ten above every other album in the history of music.
If you're talking about what you're CURRENTLY liking or listening to, then I could see Ten being toward the bottom as most of the songs you've heard a million times, they get played at almost every show, and they need a break. In fact, I could go the next 10 years without hearing Alive, Even Flow, Porch, Once, or Jeremy and it wouldn't bother me a bit.
I don't like to pick my middle 8, but if someone forced me to, Ten would not make my top 5, but they're all so close it really makes no difference.
agree with that, I actually like all the albums so it is really splitting hairs, point being most fan bases of a band wouldn't have such a diversity in their album rankings, except for a band like the Grateful Dead or someone like that, certainly can't think of any current bands, maybe Metallica or Iron Maiden, but can't think of many
1. No Code
2. Vitalogy
3. Riot Act
4. Yield
5. Vs
6. Binaural
7. Ten
8. Avocado
9. Backspacer

Funny, most people when I say I like Pearl Jam tend to then harp on about what a great album Ten was but haven't really heard much beyond that, and that makes me a bit sad.
Bands' first albums rarely make my favourites lists, It's unlikely that a band with the talent and potential of Pearl Jam would have made their best album on the first or second attempt. Ten would be some way down the list for me.
REALLY!?!? To say that Ten would not make your top 5 PJ album list is nuts! We all have different tastes and inclinations, but one thing that most of us on this board have in common is our love and respect for PJ, which for many of us began when we first heard Ten. If I heard Ten Played end-to-end in a show, I would pee my pants! Ten is one of the best albums of all time; this fan club is even named after it! I have grown with PJ and have loved every single one of their albums, as they have really evolved to be the best band on this planet (IMO, anyway), but to say that Ten would not make your top 5 PJ album is insane people. Gotta run, Alive just came on the radio!

Ten is the best. The remixed version is great too.
You can not deny the greatness of ten. From start to finish its amazing and can never be recreated.
Not to take away from other albums. Riot act and binaural are my favorites, but I grew up on ten. To say any album, even the masterpiece Vs, is better than ten, is simply wrong.
If vitalogy was pjs first record, it wouldn't have ever had the response ten did.
like the thread though....makes for some interesting reads...
not to mention,...I have to listen to the first 3 albums again....
its been so many years.....
Ten would probably make my top 5 in remix form. i don't rank PJ albums because it would probably change tomorrow. or in the next few hours
I like that there seems to be no real consensus on a top 5. makes things interesting.

Backspacer ahead of Ten AND Yield  Blasphemy! Not in a million years for me anyway.
Yep, I should be taken into a backally and be shot, I know, I know... I came a fan a bit later than most. Didn't like Ten, was too polished for my taste. (So I don't have the nastolgia that we *should* have, I suppose.) And i love Yield... BS just have a personal meaning to me...

Yeah, it is one of the best albums of all time.... But so are most of their other albums IMO! So as someone else said, it's just splitting hairs. Number 8 on my list is better than most other albums of all time. And again like someone else said, it's like ranking Led Zep albums. For the most part, it's just moot. Really, I have just about every PJ album as my #1, and then Backspacer as #2. :P
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata
Absolutely! I've unfortunately lost some of my connection to that album as the band has changed through the years, although the remixes definitely helped to revive it a bit. In order of how much I listen to them now a days:
Vitalogy
No Code
Vs
Binaural
Pearl Jam
Yield
Riot Act
Ten
Backspacer
I should add, Ten was the first album I ever bought with my own money, and it's the only album I listened to for two years, until Vs came out. (Once in a while I'd mix in the singles like Alive with Dirty Frank B Side). I drove my family crazy with how much I listened to it. Pretty much non-stop, so it will always be the most important album to me, but I've moved with them through their career, and loved every album, so that just happens to be the oldest one, and hence, the one I listen to the least.
I didn't want to respond because I thought it may come off as trolling but honestly it's not at all, I merely want to share a thought
I can Completely understand and accept that many people don't have Ten in their top 5 fav albums. That's because music is art and art is subjective. Thus one man's Ten is another's Riot Act, so to speak.
But I must say, if we are looking at this objectively (no person feelings, just doing our best to determine which album is "best") I'd be flabbergasted if people would put Ten out of PJs top 5 albums.
The songs on that album, though at times over-produced, are so fantastic it's unreal. Granted those are just my feelings but c'mon, just look at the track list. Shit's unreal. I think most can agree they really did something special on that album.
But thats just my take. God I love Pearl Jam
Peace all! Keep rockin to whatever your fav album is! Maybe come October it'll be Lightning Bolt!! (And god bless polite discourse. Those who think it's "negative" don't get it. We just love talking bout our common love!)
I actually think about how crazy the writing session for Ten was. Not just the songs that made the album, but the one's that didn't get on the record, and ones that came shortly after, are equally ridiculous:
Footsteps
Breath
SOLAT
Hard To Imagine
Wash
Hold On
Brother
Alone
Yellow Ledbetter
Dirty Frank
Ten could easily have been a double album of completely solid tunes.
ten has got to be top 5. but you got last place correct

Well, the band would agree with you apparently. I believe they've always felt that the album could have been better. Yeah, it's not the "best" album if you're thinking objectively. Not even close. I understand that there is a connection because most of us fell in love with PJ when we heard that album, and it IS still a fucking awesome record!! After that, it's just a matter of taste and emotional attachment. Fantastic album... Most famous album.... not PJ's best album. Still.... we all love Ten. I think I can say that my #1 PJ SONG is on that album anyway - "Release"..... Well, favorite song this week, anyway.

Can't knock ten for what it's accomplished not only for the band but for rock history in general. Ten, to me is easily one of the top 100 albums of all time and I would go as far as to say that it should be top fifty... However it doesn't even fall high on my list which is strange...
1. Yield
2. No Code
3. Vs

Yeah, I have the Beatles White Album listed as my least favorite
And you are a big Michael Bolton fan looking at your picture. So here you go...
Obviously. Ten takes a back seat to any Michael Bolton album. For my money it doesn't get any better than when he sings "When a Man Loves a Woman."
 Oh man, you made my day. Was sitting behind the computer here and cracked up. Girlfriend is looking at me with a wtf expression on her face. Prob. have to sing When a Man Loves a Woman to her tonight...

So Ten falls in top 5 for me, just barely. I enjoy the Vs songs live but I am not a fan of Dave's drumming on the album.
