great thread OP...thank of some members we can talk about music here..thank you

i just put some Aphrodite's Child to listen now..its like 7 am here..i put them at my dark hours at my 20's
...im at 40 years old...and they stop being a band the year i was born...

fuck yeah..how fuckin powerfull shit is music..

I used to listen to Aphrodite's Child. Good times.

Now, I like The Flaming Lips a lot.
Neil, Jack White, My Morning Jacket are the obvious greats still active.
Lots of others, but either they are inconsistent or I get bored, don't know. Kinda bored with indie as well.
    Need new PJ.

Seeing a wide variety of bands and musicians on this thread does not surprise me. Seeing Link Wray listed does! I love Link Wray. I got to see him once at Winterland and have been a fan for a good 40 years. In the film, "It Might Get Loud", I was thrilled to see Jimmy Page give him credit for his influence on rock and roll.

    Very cool, voidofman!

I was able to see him at BB King's NY, Spring '95 only a few months before he passed away. Was a great show, small place. He signed my Guitar Preacher: Polydor Years CD and a few other peoples records while his tech tried to find him another guitar that didn't have a broken string.

In the liner notes for that CD, I think, it is mentioned that Page, Hendrix, Townsend, McCartney, Beck and a few others were influenced by Link. The Neville Brothers have covered a couple of his songs, Fire and Brimstone, and Fallin' Rain. Really like those versions too.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of John Frusciante. He's got some great stuff.

There's tons of bands I've followed for years but you could probably say I'm obsessed about all things to do with Mark Lanegan. My favourite singer by far and a great lyricist too. I've followed him since around 1990 through his work with Screaming Trees right up to his most recent collaboration with Duke Garwood. The man has barely put a foot wrong musically and he never gets boring or stale... :)

I agree, simply, utterly love The National. If i can't decide what music to listen to its either PJ or The National. Can't wait to see them at Splendour (not everyone is going to Wrigley  )

Great thread... not sure how I missed this back in April.

In terms of obsession to the point where "I need to own every piece of music they ever release, usually in multiple formats, I'll wear their t-shirts in public, I'll mount their posters on my wall, I'll travel cross-country to see their shows" the only band that tops PJ for me is Dead Can Dance. If they were only half as prolific as PJ in terms of releasing singles, official bootlegs, dvds, posters, etc, then they'd have lot more of my money by now

On par with PJ are New Order (although they've really let me down the last few years), U2, Saint Etienne and many of PJ's side projects: Brad, RNDM, Mad Season, Soundgarden ;)

There are obviously a ton of other bands that I listen to and thoroughly enjoy (The Beatles, R.E.M., Zeppelin, Joy Division, The Cure, The Stone Roses, The Police, 1980's-era Queensryche, etc) but the artists above pretty much do it all for me.

No ridiculing my taste in music please :)

Personally, I think it get's an unfair rap, but I like it. It will never go down in the annals of time as a classic, but I honestly like it as much as any of his other solo albums...

My first obsession was Cat Stevens (I am old!) listened to him constantly from age 13 to 15, then Neil Young age 15 to 22,then as I got way older: DMB, and Pearl Jam. I love other groups but not as obsessed as these four.
