Other Music Obsessions

Neil Young, Springsteen and Wilco
However, PJ are number one, and the only ones I would travel far to see!
"A beacon on dry land"0 -
Joseph Arthur
Fugazi
Bob Dylan
Led Zeppelin
(I could add at least 3 more but it seems like overkill)
Fortunately for my bank account, two of them aren't going to cost me concert ticket money, and the rest never come around anyway. :P Pretty sure that, unless I get rich, I wouldn't travel to see any other than PJ, just because I don't know of any good fan parties connected to the others.
If it weren't for the parties and the people from the boards who I want to meet, there is no way I'd travel for PJ either. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
I'd say these days PJ is my only real music obsession. I still follow a lot of bands and try to see them whenever I get the chance tho. Some of the bands I've been pretty crazy about in the past...

Korn
Alice In Chains

I'd have to say the only "obsession" I have musically these days is Pearl Jam or any artist associated with PJ. I've got about sixty four days (+118GB) of music on my iPod and I listen to Pearl Jam almost exclusively, save for a couple of days when I just take a break.
Here are my obsessions throughout the years.
Pre-teen through early adolescent - The Beatles, KISS, Led Zeppelin, The Who
Teenage through early adult - Rush, Yes, Kansas, Pink Floyd
Middle adult - Counting Crows
Now - Pearl Jam, EV, Mad Season, Brad, Neil Young, Rush, Gary Clark Jr., Stevie Ray VaughnPosimists. Fuck the pessimists...fuck'em.0 -
Yeah, NIN is awesome... hoping they announce a show for Vancouver. Maybe if I see them live I can upgrade them to my music obsession list.korn-1 wrote:I'd say these days PJ is my only real music obsession. this would be a good thread to keep going and anytime we hear a song that we thing is cool to post it in this thread, here's one I heard the other night when I was seeing what else was on my XM, the lyrics are very Vedderesque even though it is Reggae, it is recorded from 7" Vinyl

I've been listening to a lot of van morrison recently (as someone mentioned previously) and i've seen foo fighters, nin & soundgarden in concert in recent years, but none of it comes anywhere even remotely close to pj. I did recently get to see AWOLNATION in atlantic city, they put on a great show. They're a pretty new band so obviously it's nowhere near pj's caliber, but i think they have the potential to get there if they grow well. it's a similar energy as pj shows, where you can just sort of see that the majority of the crowd is really feeling it. a fight had broken out in the pit and the lead singer guy threatened to come down and kick their asses himself if they pulled some shit like that again lol. very entertaining, overall.NYC 06/24/08-Auckland 11/27/09-Chch 11/29/09-Newark 05/18/10-Atlanta 09/22/12-Chicago 07/19/13-Brooklyn 10/18/13 & 10/19/13-Hartford 10/25/13-Baltimore 10/27/13-Auckland 1/17/14-GC 1/19/14-Melbourne 1/24/14-Sydney 1/26/14-Amsterdam 6/16/14 & 6/17/14-Milan 6/20/14-Berlin 6/26/14-Leeds 7/8/14-Milton Keynes 7/11/14-St. Louis 10/3/14-NYC 9/26/15

I love lots of music, but the obsession level only reaches Pearl Jam and The Avett Brothers. Actually, if I'm being totally honest, the Avett Brothers are probably sneaking past PJ at this point. It's probably due to touring habits. I've seen the Avetts 4 times in the last year, all within driving distance of my home. I haven't seen PJ in 3 years and even then I had to fly across the country. I also discovered and fell in love with the Avetts alongside my wife. PJ is "my" band, but the Avett Brothers are "ours."
PJ and The Avett Brothers are the only two bands who I would travel to see, talk about online, and collect stuff from."Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them." - Thoreau

My Morning Jacket is very cool, wish they would play them on Pearl Jam radio once and a while

I just got my friday ticket for Lollapalooza... Nails, QOTSA, and Band of Horses!
I saw Nails back-to-back nights at the Aragon in Chicago a few years back, between shows I slept on the pavement in an alley between the venue and a bar to assure my self good positioning in the pit... so yeah I'd say I was a little obsessed.I'll ride the wave where it takes me0 -
Nothing comes remotely close to the level of PJ, but some of the other artists and bands whose music I've related to and really gotten into:
1.) Van Morrison (simply one of the most talented musicians and song writers of our time. A ton of songs and they are all great)
2.) Rolling Stones (enough said)
3.) Otis Redding (another extremely talented and gifted artist who some could argue broke the barrier back in the day for a lot of the artists we have seen today. Such a shame this world lost such a gifted talent at an early age. Dock Of The Bay easily one of the greatest songs of all time. Thank you Steve Cropper.)
4.) Led Zeppelin (enough said)
5.) Guns N Roses (say what you will about this band and Axl Rose, but talk about a band who changed the game. Listen to Appetite For Destruction and tell me you don't agree)
6.) Incubus (used to listen to them a ton. Great stuff with an obscure sound and they've been around for a while now. Listen to their Morning View album, it's fantastic. Their first 3 albums are really good.)Bristow, VA - 5.13.10

I second this one. I can't think of any other artist remotely like him. His projects are so varied and no matter what genre of music he's working in, the results are usually pretty amazing.Pitt 98, Pitt 00, Cleveland 03, Pitt 03, State College 03, Toledo 04, Toronto 05, Pitt 05, Cleveland 06, Pitt 06 & Chicago 07, Chicago 1&2 09, Philly 2,3,4 09, Cleveland 10, Columbus 10, Alpine Valley 1& 2 110
