She had some balls and fuckin rocked. Couldn't watch more than the beginning of the Iron Lady film; it was difficult to reconcile that "character" vs what I'd seen of her.

Awful human being, not much love in the country for her except from the ruling elite who continue to benefit from her destructive policies and social thinking. I'm not gonna celebrate her death but i'm sure as hell not gonna be silent while all these tributes come in from world leaders about what a great woman she was. She wasn't, not then, not now. My sympathies to all her victims.0

no need to pull your punches
I have to say my knowledge of Thatcher is extremely lacking...to the point of which I thought she was dead already. that is terrible.
Anyone have any good links to the truth about thatcher? I have heard she was horrible and fantastic...would like to make up my own mind but I am afraid the hyperbole of the 'greatest woman ever' or 'imperialistic satan' will reign supreme for the next few days.that’s right! What did she do to you Brits to make you so angry?
... did she try to enforce a mandatory dental plan? Cooking classes?

"Rust Never Sleeps" come to mind.
But as with Jason and Mike, I'm curious as to what the anger toward this woman is about. The movie bio portrayed her as a complex, tough woman but not so much about the nitty gritty politics."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

 no.
she vehemently opposed wealth redistribution, socialism, and supranational government.
She actually considered herself a libertarian, and worked towards those goals openly.
However her staunch fiscal conservatism lead, in practice, to a tightening of the reigns, which in the short term had some negative consequences in the economy.
She lowered income taxes, cut public spending, raised interest rates to fight inflation, and did more or less what you would expect a real fiscal conservative to do. What probably lead her in to trouble in the public eye was that (unlike the Fed over here with their ridiculous "dual mandate") she eschewed the notion of trying to influence the employment rate directly, and focused instead at the opposite end of the mandate spectrum towards reduction or limiting of inflation. Of course, limiting the amount of "money creation" limits the amount of "money" available to people in the short term (and most people are too stupid to realize it saves them the VALUE of their money in the long term).
But moreover, she wasn't afraid to call liberalism out as a form of socialism, and i'm pretty sure it was the fighting she did against globalist & statist interests that lead to her being endlessly slandered (to this day).
But then again, I'm not a Brit, and i was not alive at the time.
I can tell you the song Under Pressure (bowie\queen) is largely about the effect her policies had on the economy and the people.
[even though i think this is somewhat unfair, fortunes changed a few times during her reign, and overall i think it could be argued her policies provided a net benefit to the country, even if it was squandered after her resignation]
Watch Margaret Thatcher Explain Why the Euro Is a Terrible Idea in 1990 - maybe this will give you a taste of why she is loathed universally on "the left". She didn't want to give up fiscal sovereignty to a supranational body [and as i said, she was firmly against wealth redistribution].
Here watch the clip from this point, to hear just how far she is willing to go in her stance
here is another little "famous" bit where she talks about what is essentially wealth redistribution -- although she actually insinuates that the policies will allow BOTH rich and poor to be poorer.
This is one of her more famous quotes (although it is usually abbreviated and paraphrased) ...Thatcher wrote:I think they've made the biggest financial mess that any government's ever made in this country for a very long time, and Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people's money. It's quite a characteristic of them. They then start to nationalise everything, and people just do not like more and more nationalisation, and they're now trying to control everything by other means. They're progressively reducing the choice available to ordinary peopleIf I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?0
