Hotel California is a good album and they have a handful of good songs from prior albums. The Long Run is a horrid, vile album, except for Joe Walsh's song, In the City.

I agree with you on The Long Run. You can hear them breaking up on that album. "In the City" is an awesome song.

Did anyone catch part 1 of the documentary on them on Showtime last night?

Yes it was amazing...can't wait for part 2...
I didn't realize the impact Jackson Browne had on these guys...
I also didn't realize they partied as hard as this doc suggests...

Funny, I dig so many of these songs, but never categorize them as rock for some reason...saw them live in 94 and they were very good.

I am a sucker for documentaries, and this one was as good and candid as they come. Looking forward to tonight's part 2

I wasn't a huge fan but saw them in New Orleans last year. I have to say, it was really good set. I was also very drunk however.

They were infamous for their partying. I think it was Glenn that said they partied harder than Zeppelin in the '70s. I know, crazy.

You don't categorize them as rock? What do you categorize them as?

This doc was terrific. I loved every minute of it. Glenn is a terrific songwriter, but he can also be a dick when it comes to the business side. Henley, too. Still, I love the Eagles.

I have always thought of them as a country-folk rock outfit, frankly...Already Gone, Take It Easy, Desperado, Tequila Sunrise, One of These Nights, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Lyin Eyes, In The City, New Kid in Town, Love Will Keep Us Alive...all the aforementioned felt more country/folk then true rock-n-roll (Stones, Who, Bob Seger, Queen, Yes, heck even the Beatles)...they certainly fit the country rock dial more appropriately than the classic rock dial, no?

I really like the Eagles. Applaud their longevity. HUGE break there for over a dozen years helped. They certainly partied like rockstars, that's for sure. The docs were great. Frey is a gigantic douche for sure. I personally struggle with labeling them solely rock however...they certainly dipped into that pool on a few tunes Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane and Get Over it - but they'll alway be (IMO) my Dad's country/folk/rock outfit...

They definitely had that country label on the first couple albums, but by ON THE BORDER they were getting more on the rock side. You can't deny HOTEL CALIFORNIA and THE LONG RUN aren't straight-up rock albums, especially with the addition of Joe Walsh, who was a major contributor to that.

After watching the doc, I was wondering if the Eagles were ever going to reissue and remaster their '70s albums...

Love his role in Jerry Maguire where he take no shit from Cruise over the phone.

    Felder grudge aside, RIP.
  • I love the Eagles, and Glenn was my favorite. So sad to hear that he passed away. Grateful that I had the chance to see the Eagles several times about 8 years ago. May he RIP.

To be honest, I've never been a huge Eagles fan but they made a handful of songs I've always liked that are really fine like "Take it Easy", "Lyin' Eyes" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and they were all Frey songs.

    Another sad loss.

Very sad. I played the crap out of both Desperado and The Long Run.

    RIP, Glenn

Two days before his death, ie, just on Friday, my fiancé and I stayed home and I tossed on "Desperado" on the turntable and we drank wine and enjoyed that album.... couldn't believe how GOOD that album was and still is..... so when it was done, she says "I'm in such an Eagles mood, throw on another one!!" and on went "Hotel California" which was then followed by "The Long Run." and then "Greatest Hits."... we had such a wicked night playing board games, just the two of us, taking turns flipping the records, and drinking a couple bottles of wine.... we hadn't enjoyed our turntable that much in many months. Then on fucking Monday... the news broke about Glen. God damn...

With Bowie, Lemmy and Frey, it's about time this video has a new verse added to it... jesus fuck.

apologies for offending anyone with my jesus fuckery comments.
