My question - after browsing the Forum a bit, I get the impression that it's usually REALLY hard to get good tickets/what you want during the Fan Club presales...is that accurate, generally-speaking?
I joined up in hopes that 2013 will come with a lot of PJ activity (like most of us are hoping for), so I'm just curious.
The system seemed pretty painless to me...

Putting your name in 4 lotteries but only paying for/caring about 2 shows would lessen the odds for the person that only wants a single show.
I think ??0 -

I'm not quite sure. Depends on how they do it, but I'm all for any mechanism that makes it vague enough (yes, vague) that folks are less inclined to put excessive amounts of shows in their queue.Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.0 -
not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but i feel like they are trying to put in a ticketing system that is fairly similar, if not the same as Phish. Not that there is anything wrong with that, i think it is a good lottery system, but does anyone else agree? i havent looked too deep into this proposed ticketing system yet but that is what it feels like
for their lottery you can choose 1-4 tickets per show. You can choose ga pit, ga lawn, or assigned seats (given the venue) or best available. Each individual show has its own lottery, so I can put in for the whole tour and potentially get every show i entered for, i also may not get any or maybe a get 2 shows out of 10. My credit card will be charged for any or all shows i enter the lottery for.Post edited by brewdog123 onAtlanta, GA 8/7/00...Atlanta, GA 4/19/03...Columbia, SC 6/16/08...New Orleans, LA 5/1/10...East Troy, WI 9/3/11... A single ticket option would be cool, cause can't always find another person to go with. It would be a little cheaper, and I could go to another show or two that way. I would rather buy my single club tickets than fight stubhub after they snag them from ticketmaster.Post edited by red mos onPJ: 10/14/00 06/09/03 10/4/09 11/15/13 11/16/13 10/08/14

Its great that they are running this trial but what about those prizes.
Where have they been hiding those benny boxes all these years, I presume these were leftovers in case their were any faulty. I still remember that feeling of trying to click that link to buy only to be told they were sold out. Worth entering for the prizes no question, even if you atually got charged.0 -

This could work. Let's say you have to purchase "Credits" for all the shows you want to go. So PJ is playing 4 nights in my hometown. I can only afford to go to two shows. So I prioritize my list in order of 1-4, like it is now. I go to another screen and pre-pay for two of them. So now I get two credits on the system. Show 1 gets raffled, I don't win. Show 2 gets raffled, I win (now I have 1 credit left). Show 3 gets raffled and I win. Now I have no credits left. Show 4 gets raffled and I get drawn, but I have no credits left so the tickets go in for a re-raffle. The system loops through this until all tickets are gone.
Great idea!!!!!!!!
I think the whole point of agreeing to pay for shows up front is to avoid this, so everyone is not putting in for a lot of shows they are not even sure they can make or afford. And lets look at this realistically- PJ has played 4 shows in the same city twice? And both were special occasions. From what I read on this idea, you are just trying to increase your odds of getting a show.
My example is actually close to home. Eddie just did a tour where he played 2 shows in Jax, 2 in Orlando, 2 in Ft Lauderdale, and 2 in Clearwater.
I could only afford to go to 4 of these shows and I didn't care which ones. It would be nice to be able to set a priority and say I can go to 4 of the shows and I'm willing to pay for 4 of the shows.
I ended up not getting any ten club tickets (partly my fault for messing up the whole pay pal thing). But I ended up going to four of the shows by other means so it all worked out in the end.92 - Orlando

i think you missed the point...
lets say i could afford 2 shows, but there are 6 shows that i would be ok with attending. under the current system, i put in for 2, and don't get drawn.....now i'm fucked. but if you went with the credit system, i can put mark all 6 shows, but will only get the first two that are drawn. makes a ton of sense if you ask me.81 is now off the air0 -
so what? thats the luck of the lottery. if you dont get selected, you would then go to the public onsale (TM, LN) and get your tickets there. you cant have everything. not that this makes it right, but this is how the phish lottery works, and it worls pretty well
yall are trying to make this as complicated as possibleAtlanta, GA 8/7/00...Atlanta, GA 4/19/03...Columbia, SC 6/16/08...New Orleans, LA 5/1/10...East Troy, WI 9/3/11... East Troy, WI 9/4/11... now i will say in regards to the phish lottery, people put in for shows they have no intention on going to (ticket hoarders) to use a trade bait for shows they want to go to and didnt get tickets for. this creates another set of problemsAtlanta, GA 8/7/00...Atlanta, GA 4/19/03...Columbia, SC 6/16/08...New Orleans, LA 5/1/10...East Troy, WI 9/3/11... Not sure I see the downside to allowing folks to choose the "max number" of shows in their ordered selections. So I live in central/northern NJ and let's pretend they are doing two shows in MSG, one in Philly, and one in Boston (just humor me on the number of shows).
Obviously my selections would look something like this:
1. MSG1
2. MSG2
3. Philly
4. Boston
Why not have a little drop down selector on the selection page that allows me to specify the max number of shows I want tickets for. So if I put 2, and let's say I was not drawn for MSG1 but was for all the rest, I would get MSG2 and Philly and not Boston. Since it is presumably a computer doing the selections, it means the Boston show remains in the pool for the next person, etc.
The criticism I have seen to some of the ideas about ways to avoid overbooking oneself seem to be avoided and everyone gets a fair chance.0 -

i just dont understand the rational of wanting 4 shows but can only afford 2. I think you should figure out what 2 you want most and put in for them, and then let the lottery gods decide. If you get nothing, then it is on to ticketmaster public sale. it makes things real complicated with a ranking system. i dunno, beating a dead horseAtlanta, GA 8/7/00...Atlanta, GA 4/19/03...Columbia, SC 6/16/08...New Orleans, LA 5/1/10...East Troy, WI 9/3/11... they have already made it more complicated by going to the ranking system. the more i think about it, the more i really dislike the system they are working.....
what does the selection process look like.
do we pick names one at a time and give them their higest ranked show.....or do we manipulate them so that we get the most people to a show regardless of rankings. the selection process really can get muddy. i wish they would tell us what the process is going to be.
i still say bring back F5.81 is now off the air0 -

I'm for F5 too-or selling fan club on Ticketmaster with unique codes for each member like they did for Canada
- but I think they could work a system where each show is a straight lottery, and you could mark that you only wanted 2 shows, so if you put in for 6, and say you win the first 2, you are pulled from the rest of the shows. That way if you are shut out of your #1 choice in a high demand area, you still have a chance at other shows
tickets are done like this per 10c FAQ
"Q: How does the show priority selection factor in to the drawing?
A: For each show we will randomly draw members who have made that show their #1 priority. If any tickets remain the system will randomly draw names of members who have chosen that show as their #2 priority, and so on until every ticket for a given show has been sold.

I missed that last part. Wow! This is terrible and going to be a huge nightmare for the big cities. Not complaining. Duly noted that we get the tours. But, why would anyone put anything other than NYC, Boston, Philly as their #1?
So, all these folks worrying about getting TOO MANY shows - stop worrying. You're only getting 1 in the Northeast unless you get EXTREMELYlucky. You will most likely get 1, and it may not be your first choice, but you're only getting that 1.
EDIT: I say start pricing the tickets to market. That would solve a ton of this.Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.0
