I hope you gain alot from your thread. I will speak to you out of my heart and personal experiences. I have been to Canada three times now and have had a blast each time. I think Canada is great! As far as America, im sure you all know what I think there too. I think America is great too. But setting all politics aside....
Me and my friends grew up in a great neighborhood and we had a great childhood growing up. Our famlies partied alot because they were part of the hippie movement! The Beatles were always playing in our house. My mom and dad smoked pot and drank alot of beer and we were always hosting people. Alot of friends and good times. We lived outside Pittsburgh Pa so we were big Steelers fans! Football was our religion and Three Rivers Stadium was our church. LOL Hockey was also big where we were and we love Canada for that reason especially. We played games like army, freeze tag, kiss and catch and spin the bottle! The games that were free, fun and physical. We did alot of hiking and walking the train tracks. We were proud of our heritage and we were very diverse in ethnicity of European countries. There was Polish Hill, Italian clubs, German restaurants, Russian clubs, etc. We grew up in between the city and the country, so we got the best of both worlds. Swimming in the dirty rivers, camping, tic-tacking, sports, kept us busy as children.
Growing up through High School was a fun! I was a good student but a bad kid sometimes. We all got together once in awhile to cause trouble or vandalize a teachers home. We would tip cars and throw toilet paper over someone's house about 30 times. Imagine trying to get that off of your house after a nice dewey morning. We collected baseball cards and played football on weekends. It was a great time to grow up in America. Instead of going to college....or the Army....i decided to be a beach bum and do drugs! IN that stage....i experimented abundantly with just about everything you can imagine. So that season lasted 14 years!
During the years I would say we have alot to be proud of, however, many of us get lost in our own world. We tend to overlook the things that matter. Human nature has proven to me that we forget the good, and remember the bad. We tend to steer ourselves toward whats easy and we have lost some of our focus on the meaningful things in life. I believe in America....and its people. I believe that we are more than a country....we are an IDEA. An idea that almost all humans want to be part of.....the expansion of Liberty and Freedom for all mankind. The pursuit is guaranteed.....but the result is not.
I believe the world would be a much darker place without America and her ideals. Especially over time!Theres no time like the present

Oh fuck here we go again. Another thread ready for the fucking Americans views on guns and violence.
A place for Americans to plead their case for guns are for my Protection.
I tried a thread similar, asking a simple question like this but the Americans can't answer the simple question. They google shit and cut and paste their answers.
Let the bullshit begin.........
Starting now. Go fuckers0 -

The reason i am asking is due the lack of realism the outsiders get, truthfully. I would like to know about the people and not the jargon of the news, (and we all know the first nine times we hear something it's inaccurate) and not documentaries that can be leading, not from the government (yours or mine) but from the people. the people are America and I would just love to hear what your views are about being American is, good or bad!
I can tell you that being Canadian is un-confrontational (well for the most part), almost too damned polite and soooo conservative in most places it could drive a person loonietoons! However I can tell you that I am proud to be Canadian and how multicultural we are and diverse of a people we are. I love how clean my City is and how peaceful of a people we are... That most of us don't care who is liberal and who is a conservative, (most of us couldn't stand Chretien), that many of us have no idea what our constitutional rights are...(maybe a little too naive), that we have guns but we use them for the most part to hunt deer....well in Alberta anyhow, not too sure about the other provinces... But I wonder what makes us different than our friends to the south... What is it like there and how different are we really from each other?
So please just fill up this post with any answer, I assure you this is just for my own curiosity nothing more and nothing less!

Yes my Colours are red and white. NO BLUE, there are 20 gun threads and I don't like them or your views. You bait people with your bullshit. Go to your caboose and paint it..... How'd you make out0 -
no different than being a canadien, except on the whole, canadiens do not have an overblown undeserved sense of superiority and entitlement the way that a lot of americans do..."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."0 -
Ok people, everyone is entitled to their opinions and views. I felt that what both of your posts came from honesty and I appreciate both your answers...
And this isn't a thread bout gun control, or just politics, I merely asked a question about issues seen here in Canada. I want personal views too, patriotic views, any kind...
So thank to you both and I m glad you both are proud of your countries but lets not blast each other for having an opinion, I appreciate all views, so no trashing please!0 -

Me, I'm not about this - "I am American and we kick ass answer," It's just not me and I think not most either, least from what I've seen in this forum.
Guess I'll come back if the vitriol and stereotypes make way for good discussion.
It'd be nice, for once.0 -

I am not ashamed but I will try hard to be better around here,
Talk to the rule makers and get a font for sarcasm, might alleviate any question as to who is being serious and who is kidding around. We need more people kidding around, it's healthy
Oh and tipping cars is bad. We tip cows in Canada.0 -

Dear OP,
I tried to paint a picture for you to envision in the first response. I hope you get more of that and I hope you get more substance. It is a good thread for everyone to enjoy.
Another picture would be the very memorable moments such as....Kennedy's assassination, ( I wasnt alive yet), The Beatles touring, John Lennons death, The Space Shuttle Explosion, 9/11
and the good things such as SuperBowls, World Series Champs, Stanley Cups, "Tear Down that Wall", achievements and milestones, accomplishments and defeats. Parades and Parties! Its been a great run!
Shows like Cheers, Nightcourt, Mash and Seinfeld were all a big part of our past and upbringing!Theres no time like the present

So the reason I asked this is because I have lately been inundated with really negative views via documentaries about America and I just don't feel it was a fair representation... So I wanted to hear it straight from the people who lived there, like give the people a chance to say something about these really negative things and say what they think but also share some great things about being American... Share great things outside politics etc... Something more then our economical climate sucks... It sucks but this Is great... And I don't just want to hear about the political BS....
I dunno, I was just really curious about what people have to say... Eddie and the guys have said things about there views politically, but they say a lot about other things too... So I just thought lets talk about it because it bothers me as a Canadian that there so many stereotypes about Americans out there...Post edited by tkbelle1980 on0 -

Taking political statements as personal ones causes a lot of problems...do you maybe think you're doing that to an extent? Considering a criticism of policy to be a criticism of a people? I can't give an opinion either way without also having an opinion on the documentary...
I think it's curious that the people I disagree with think I hate America...while the people I agree with don't seem to take the criticism to heart. I have had probably 99% positive experiences with my travels to the US, and dealings with Americans...which is about on par for every country I've ever visited. It's kinda cliche to say, but I really don't feel that the average person is all that different anywhere...The ideological and cultural differences are often more a regional, than they are separated by the 49th parallel or some imaginary line....we here in AB (I'm from Edmonton  Flames suck :P) probably have more in common with some US regions (Montanna and Texas come to mind) than we do with our neighbours in BC....but, all of this assumes a lot of generalizations about individuals.tkbelle1980 wrote:I love how clean my City is and how peaceful of a people we are

Also, we were denied a spot on the UN security council for the first time ever, because we are no longer viewed as at least impartial....
And yes....AB is waaaay too conservative0 -

Ps the flames do suck.. But don't tell anyone I told you!
Will respond to our post soon, you are right, i was generalizing... I guess I feel that people create policy through support if their governments... But even then that ts not entirely concise... I am PC but I don't agree with all their platforms.. Soo touché.... Point awarded to you! (Damned Edmontonians, freaking Smarty pants.... I am only kidding)
