Me and my friends grew up in a great neighborhood and we had a great childhood growing up. Our famlies partied alot because they were part of the hippie movement! The Beatles were always playing in our house. My mom and dad smoked pot and drank alot of beer and we were always hosting people. Alot of friends and good times. We lived outside Pittsburgh Pa so we were big Steelers fans! Football was our religion and Three Rivers Stadium was our church. LOL Hockey was also big where we were and we love Canada for that reason especially. We played games like army, freeze tag, kiss and catch and spin the bottle! The games that were free, fun and physical. We did alot of hiking and walking the train tracks. We were proud of our heritage and we were very diverse in ethnicity of European countries. There was Polish Hill, Italian clubs, German restaurants, Russian clubs, etc. We grew up in between the city and the country, so we got the best of both worlds. Swimming in the dirty rivers, camping, tic-tacking, sports, kept us busy as children.
Growing up through High School was a fun! I was a good student but a bad kid sometimes. We all got together once in awhile to cause trouble or vandalize a teachers home. We would tip cars and throw toilet paper over someone's house about 30 times. Imagine trying to get that off of your house after a nice dewey morning. We collected baseball cards and played football on weekends. It was a great time to grow up in America. Instead of going to college....or the Army....i decided to be a beach bum and do drugs! IN that stage....i experimented abundantly with just about everything you can imagine. So that season lasted 14 years!
During the years I would say we have alot to be proud of, however, many of us get lost in our own world. We tend to overlook the things that matter. Human nature has proven to me that we forget the good, and remember the bad. We tend to steer ourselves toward whats easy and we have lost some of our focus on the meaningful things in life. I believe in America....and its people. I believe that we are more than a country....we are an IDEA. An idea that almost all humans want to be part of.....the expansion of Liberty and Freedom for all mankind. The pursuit is guaranteed.....but the result is not.
I believe the world would be a much darker place without America and her ideals. Especially over time!

All people need to do more on every level!
A place for Americans to plead their case for guns are for my Protection.
I tried a thread similar, asking a simple question like this but the Americans can't answer the simple question. They google shit and cut and paste their answers.
Let the bullshit begin.........
Starting now. Go fuckers
I see you're newer than me. Tip #1 freedomfighter is full of shit,
What's freedom fighter!? Explain...
Its a shame that people bomb threads with IMMEDIATE negativity and they should be ashamed!

Yes my Colours are red and white. NO BLUE, there are 20 gun threads and I don't like them or your views. You bait people with your bullshit. Go to your caboose and paint it..... How'd you make out
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."
And this isn't a thread bout gun control, or just politics, I merely asked a question about issues seen here in Canada. I want personal views too, patriotic views, any kind...
So thank to you both and I m glad you both are proud of your countries but lets not blast each other for having an opinion, I appreciate all views, so no trashing please!
Canada is beautiful....I LOVE IT!

Me, I'm not about this - "I am American and we kick ass answer," It's just not me and I think not most either, least from what I've seen in this forum.
Guess I'll come back if the vitriol and stereotypes make way for good discussion.
It'd be nice, for once.
I am not ashamed but I will try hard to be better around here,
Talk to the rule makers and get a font for sarcasm, might alleviate any question as to who is being serious and who is kidding around. We need more people kidding around, it's healthy
Oh and tipping cars is bad. We tip cows in Canada.
I tried to paint a picture for you to envision in the first response. I hope you get more of that and I hope you get more substance. It is a good thread for everyone to enjoy.
Another picture would be the very memorable moments such as....Kennedy's assassination, ( I wasnt alive yet), The Beatles touring, John Lennons death, The Space Shuttle Explosion, 9/11
and the good things such as SuperBowls, World Series Champs, Stanley Cups, "Tear Down that Wall", achievements and milestones, accomplishments and defeats. Parades and Parties! Its been a great run!
Shows like Cheers, Nightcourt, Mash and Seinfeld were all a big part of our past and upbringing!

I dunno, I was just really curious about what people have to say... Eddie and the guys have said things about there views politically, but they say a lot about other things too... So I just thought lets talk about it because it bothers me as a Canadian that there so many stereotypes about Americans out there...
Ya those stupid cows sleep standing up, just gotta tip 'em. Tricks from my red deer days. Go rebels
The bad news will find you....you have to seek out the good things in life....and pass them on!

Taking political statements as personal ones causes a lot of problems...do you maybe think you're doing that to an extent? Considering a criticism of policy to be a criticism of a people? I can't give an opinion either way without also having an opinion on the documentary...
I think it's curious that the people I disagree with think I hate America...while the people I agree with don't seem to take the criticism to heart. I have had probably 99% positive experiences with my travels to the US, and dealings with Americans...which is about on par for every country I've ever visited. It's kinda cliche to say, but I really don't feel that the average person is all that different anywhere...The ideological and cultural differences are often more a regional, than they are separated by the 49th parallel or some imaginary line....we here in AB (I'm from Edmonton  Flames suck :P) probably have more in common with some US regions (Montanna and Texas come to mind) than we do with our neighbours in BC....but, all of this assumes a lot of generalizations about individuals.
Again, I know you're speaking in a general sense...but I think the idea of Canada as a peaceful nation is outdated, and unfortunately, as much as we wish were still viewed as peacekeepers by the international community....we are not. Here's proof:

Also, we were denied a spot on the UN security council for the first time ever, because we are no longer viewed as at least impartial....
And yes....AB is waaaay too conservative
I really like what you have to say here.....so I am changing my post....
Will respond to our post soon, you are right, i was generalizing... I guess I feel that people create policy through support if their governments... But even then that ts not entirely concise... I am PC but I don't agree with all their platforms.. Soo touché.... Point awarded to you! (Damned Edmontonians, freaking Smarty pants.... I am only kidding )
Some people just wave their star spangled bullshit or Canada bullshit or insert coutnry here Bullshit and that is not productive at all.
It was great moving out of the US and doing some extensive traveling. Really helps to broaden your focus and not narrow it. I lived in the US for 30 years and don't have plans on returning, not because I hate it, there is just more I want to experience and do......
Every year each county plays off against eachother in an All Ireland competition, which is an incredibly passionate experience. You're county winning is something that is cherished by many until their dying days, unless you're from Kilkenny (then you're just a straight out bastard)
There was a time when I was very much the flag waving, ra ra ra type of bullshit merchant, but thankfully I got to travel the world, which helped really focus some perspective.
All in all, this is my home, and has always felt as such, and as hard as times are, I believe it is up to people to better where they are. I do that by working my ass off, contributing, and helping get people back into the workforce.
Every nation has it's flaws, fuck knows Ireland does.
Wow, is this ever wrong in so, so, many ways.
The poison from the poison stream caught up to you ELEVEN years ago and you floated out of here. Sept. 14, 08
"...I changed by not changing at all..."
I like that I have the RIGHT to.
I like that we can ban assault rifles and infringe not at all on people's rights.

That said, I do love this land - being a first-generation American via a German father who emigrated here in his teens, became a US soldier and put his ass into some nasty WWII battles ... via a Persian mother who emigrated here with most of her family in the late 40s, with pretty much nothing of the life they lived in Iran. Started over, and succeeded. I'm proud of THEM.
I love the freedom to speak my mind, to be able to vehemently disagree with some, to be as charitable (or not) as I choose. To know that hard work can be fruitful. To be able to see the vilest of people and the most giving of people expose themselves in their own ways - I learn from both.
I wish the OP hadn't been edited. This could be (is?) a fruitful thread - no different than if someone had asked about what it's like being...Norwegian. Or what life in China is like for Smellyman and Byrnzie.
I wish that genuine questions and openness to other views wouldn't be so quickly stifled; it can be a refreshing exposure to the different and the unknown.
with simple words...
i agree that travelling helps alot to see both sides of the coin
