Mary and her husband, Jim, had a dog named Lucky. Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company for a weekend visit, they would warn their friends not to leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget, and something would come up missing.
Mary or Jim would go to Lucky’s toy box in the basement, and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky’s other favorite toys. Lucky always stashed his finds in his toy box, and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box.
It happened that Mary found out that she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease. In fact, she was just sure it was fatal. She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital, she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her. What would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary’s dog through and through. If I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won’t understand that I didn’t want to leave him! The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.
The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than the doctors had anticipated, and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped, whining and miserable.
Finally, the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted that she couldn’t even make it up the stairs to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap.
Lucky stood watching Mary, but he didn’t come to her when she called. It made Mary sad, but sleep soon overcame her, and she dozed.
When Mary awoke, for a moment, she couldn’t understand what was wrong. She couldn’t move her head, and her body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement, bringing his beloved mistress all of his favorite things in life. He had covered her with his love.
Mary forgot about dying. Instead, she and Lucky began living again, walking farther together every day. It’s been twelve years now, and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky, he still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box, but Mary remains his greatest treasure.

We got some sneaky pics of Penny in the yard last week. Tried to post them but it says they're the wrong size. I'll work on that when I get a chance."The stars are all connected to the brain."0

I could get one when she's licking her empty food bowl, trying to get one last microscopic food particle. It's pretty pathetic :roll:If I had known then what I know now...

Has anyone gotten their Sammi calendar yet? 2013 is only a few weeks away now, and I haven't gotten mine yet. I did however receive a few months ago a similar calendar from the ASPCA, which was unexpected... Is that what I get because I am not in Canada? I ordered something off the ASPCA website before, so I wasnt sure if I had gotten one from them because of that, or if it was a trade out for the BSPCA one seeing as I'm outside of their area. Still hoping Sammi arrives here in the lower 48 before January is overMansfield, MA - Jul 02, 2003; Mansfield, MA - Jul 03, 2003; Mansfield, MA - Jul 11, 2003; Boston, MA - Sep 29, 2004; Reading, PA - Oct 01, 2004; Hartford, CT - May 13, 2006; Boston, MA - May 24, 2006; Boston, MA - May 25, 2006; Hartford, CT - Jun 27, 2008; Mansfield, MA - Jun 28, 2008; Mansfield, MA - June 30, 2008; Hartford, CT - May 15, 2010; Boston, MA - May 17, 2010; [EV - Providence, RI - June 15, 2011; EV - Hartford, CT - June 18, 2011]; Worcester, MA - Oct. 15, 2013; Worcester, MA - Oct. 16, 2013; Hartford, CT - Oct. 25, 2013; Boston, MA - August 5, 2016; Boston, MA - August 7, 2016...0 -

Had an awful night last night with the thunder and lightning, :( Henry and Jo were terrified. Had to hug them from 3:00am to 5:00 am in the morning til the storm was over. Anyone else has scaredy cat dogs when it comes to thunder?“ "Thank you Palestrina. It’s a wonderful evening, it’s great to be here and I wanna dedicate you a super sexy song." One of my dogs isn't scared, but it makes him nervous - like he feels he needs to keep the thunder away from his people. My parents got a Thundershirt for their Border Collie who has the same issues, and they swear she relaxes as soon as it's on. I've got one now, but haven't had a need to try it yet.I win.0 -

Our previous dogs Ernst and Keiko were totally scared of thunder. We don't have thunderstorms that much in LA, but when we did, they would both cower in the laundry room together and shiver.
Brian could care less. We took him to watch fireworks on the 4th this year (I'm sure I posted the photo in this thread) and he loved them. Crazy. He does cower when one of us says, "Fuck" though. Seriously. His ears go back and he hides under the table.0 -
