Wow that's really something I had not heard of this. People are getting serious now.

    Lighter note...
I am way looking forward to the movie too.

"We must contest every single inch of ground and delay the baby-murdering, tax-raising socialists at every opportunity. But in due time, the maggots will have eaten every morsel of flesh off of the rotting corpse of the Republic, and therein lies our opportunity... Why should Vermont and Texas live under the same government? Let each go her own way in peace, sign a free trade agreement among the states and we can avoid this gut-wrenching spectacle every four years."

    Yikes...

(for some reason, I read the above in Mr. Pitts' Hitler-esque voice about Moland Water  )

Maybe.. we should let them go.
Close our military bases there... set up border checks... let them build a giant wall to keep our homosexual abortion/gun free agenda out... give them what they want... a return to the 1950s as depicted on television.... you know, the one that never actually existed.

Well, kinda glad my state isn't the only group of idiots that filed this stupid petition. I understand being disappointed but, really, is running away going to solve the problem? I think not.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

    ...
New York is puzzling... I thought the Confederates hated the New Yorkers.
Maybe it's the 1 percenters living in New York that want to be the Kings of the NASCARians... i don't know. Seems odd, though.

If they were to actually secede we would just invade them, build half-billion dollar embassies, and show them the beauty that is democracy. They clearly haven't thought this through.

    Just going on track record.
  • Wait...

Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York....

Those states all voted for President Obama.

Oddly, folks from Georgia have filed twice. Pandora? Do you know anything about that?

f@ck these people. seriously. if 23,000 texans and people from 19 other states are that butt hurt over an election that they want to secede from the union, why not just have those individuals move to another country on their own? give them tax breaks to get the fuck out of here. people in my state signed the petition and they are crazy if they think the majority of missourians will just allow a small minority to make us leave the union.

this is a slap in the face to every vet who fought to defend this country, keep it united, or to unite it after the first rash of secessions.

yeah go ahead and leave, come up with your own currency, arrange your own treaties, form your own military, secure your own borders, and let rick perry handle everything. next time a hurricane hits your gulf coast or if a central american country threatens your sovreignity, you are on your own. don't come to the US and beg for help.

The headline is very misleading (as is par for the course with Yahoo...need pageviews, right?). All it takes is a handful of determined folks to file a petition. These articles are just meant to stoke the partisan fires and will all go away in a week or two.

A friend recently sent this plan for states to secede. While you're reading this please keep in mind that this was sent to me by a Republican with a good sense of humor:

We in New York intend to form our own country and
we're taking the other Blue States with us.

In case you aren't aware that includes California,
    Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin,
Michigan, Illinois and the rest of the Northeast.

We believe this split will be beneficial to the
nation and especially to the people of the new
country of The Enlightened States of America (E.S.A).

    To sum up briefly:
You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.

We get stem cell research and the best beaches.

We get Andrew Cuomo and Elizabeth Warren. You get
    Bobby Jindal and Todd Akin.

We get the Statue of Liberty. You get OpryLand.

We get Apple, Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.

We get Harvard and Stanford. You get Ole' Miss.

We get 85 percent of America's venture capital and
    entrepreneurs.

    You get Alabama.

We get two-thirds of the tax revenue. You get to make
the red states pay their fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower
than the Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of
happy families. You get a bunch of single moms.

With the Blue States in hand we will have firm
control of 80% of the country's fresh water, more
than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92% of the
nation's fresh fruit, 95% of America's quality wines
(you can serve French wines at state dinners) 90% of
all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry,
most of the US low sulfur coal, all living redwoods,
sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister
schools plus Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.

With the Red States you will have to cope with 88% of
all obese Americans and their projected health care
costs, 92% of all US mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the
tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes, 99% of all Southern
Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush
Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the
    University of Georgia.

We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.

38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was
actually swallowed by a whale, 62% believe life is
sacred unless we're discussing the death penalty or
gun laws, 44% say that evolution is only a theory,
53% that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61% of you
crazy bastards believe you are people with higher
    morals then we lefties.

We're taking the good weed too. You can have that
    crap they grow in Mexico.

    Sincerely,

Citizen of the Enlightened States of America

Here in Texas we strive to be dead last in those frivolous areas like education, healthcare, public transportation, etc. but we take great pride in having the greatest number of signatures on our secession petition.

i don't think the calls for secession are going to go away in a week or two. since the gop won't be able to get much passed legislatively that frustration among their constituents is only going to increase and the calls may become louder.

texas has talked about secession before. perry was talking about it 3 years ago.
