  • Why should tax be paid on the money again. It already has been paid when it was earned. No matter how much the inheritence is $1000 or $10000000 it is wrong.

Because you're giving it to another person. That means it's income of THEIRS now.

Just hope nobody leaves you a million dollars or more and you'll be just fine.

Damn...I'd settle for a hundred bucks

As one of the 47% I will never be receiving an inheritance. I'm just saying that I..and a lot of people...can't relate to that little girl in the 2nd sign. Allowance? Inheritance? Must be nice.

I don't know what percentage group I fall into...but I will say that receiving several checks after my father died wasn't nice at all - it made me cry in fact, broke my heart that it was representative of all he worked so hard for, to pass something on beyond the intangible to his daughters. To me, it was a gift from him. And yes, I paid a shitload of taxes on it.

No...I'm sure the loss and any reminder of the loss is just as painful regardless of a family's financial status. I didn't mean to imply it would be any less valid in my statement and I apologize if it reads that way or comes off as flippant in that regard. I am deeply sorry for your loss Hedonist. Warm thoughts being sent your way.

Thanks, CBG - sometimes dismissive, glib remarks (not just here) irritate me; they don't take enough into account about what is being said - and ironically, many of the folks making those comments would appreciate the same consideration...if that makes sense.

At any rate, I know you have a good heart and appreciate your comments up there :)

It makes sense...and you are right about wanting consideration :)

You only get taxed if it is 1 million dollars or more, right?
How many people do any of us know who are getting 1 million dollars from a relative?

If the top 2% didn't receive all of the income over the past 3 decades (wait for the trickle down...wait...), we would all be getting more. Even though, 1 million would be an amount some of us couldn't fathom.

Question - why does it bother you that others might leave $ for their kids? I won;t have any inheritance. I'm hoping my daughter will.

It's a weird, "If I don;t get it no one should get it" mentality.

It doesn't bother me at all. I think it's wonderful if you can do it, and I hope to be able to do so if I have children. I just can't relate to it. I can't relate to that sign and I'm sure a large segment of the population can't either - that's not even within the realm of concerns for us. That was my only point....not that people shouldn't do it...not whether it should be taxed/not taxed, etc.

A piece on the news last night was really beautiful, the President and his girls
growing up. Four more and he's promised somehow Malia will learn to drive.
It would have been sad for them to see their papa lose, I'm glad for them and Michelle,
    that wasn't the case.

Roll Tide.....caught a glimpse of him and his wife ringside at the Pacquaio fight Saturday night. Our neighborhood signs were gone the day after the election.
