Any Dems voting for Romney? Repubs for Obama?

I'm smart. I always vote Dem.0

Independent. Until 2012 when I became a Ron Paul republican.
I'm debating between writing in Ron Paul or voting Gary Johnson.
I've voted Clinton Clinton gore Kerry Obama.
If I had known better as a 20 something I probably would have gone Nader.
Both parties are disgusting.0 -

It's obvious that you are voting for Romney. So, if these Independents who are, in your view, full of shit, were voting for Romney, would you be calling them out for their insincerity?
Independents, like Dems or Repubs, have to make a choice; so, if one candidate is more inline with their views, then that is who they choose. But, it seems that you have a problem with this because they are not settling on your guy.
Yes, I would. Because my supposition isn't based on who they are picking. It's based on a consistency in other postings of their views. Maybe, they don't realize they're Democrat or Republican.Again, I don't really care who you vote for. It's of no importance. I am just speculationg that folks are not as "Indpendent" as they let on. But, hey. I've been wrong before...

Okie. Then still not Indpedent. Sounds Anti-Republican to me...
I will stop after this post on this topic, but my point is - you don't get to label yourself one thing or another. You are what you are. I can't say I'm blonde and that make it true even though I'm bald. I'm bald. That's it. No matter what I say, I'm still bald.
For some reason folks think being "Independent" is a badge. But, when you espouse liberal thinking and vote consistently for Democrats, you are a Democrat. No matter how much of an "Independent" you'd like to be. If you hate the Republicans and consistently vote against them, you are either Democrat or Anti-Republican. But, you are most certainly not an Independent. As a matter of fact, by registering Independent, you are actually missing out on SELECTING the candidate for the party you most closely affiliate. You want a better Republican (Democrat) candidate? Register Republican (Democrat) so you can vote in the primary/participate in the caucus.
(And BTW, Independent does not = free thinker, which I think is why most folks want to label themselves as such. But, whatever. I'm sure there are folks that are truly Independent. But it's less than those that claim to be.)Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.0 -

It does sound anti-Republican, yes. But I would argue that does not necessarily make someone a Democrat. There are far more of us that are disenchanted with the current direction of the GOP than we are enamored with the Democrats. In my own case, every time I consider voting for a Republican I have to question what master that person will follow in Washington. If Obama wins reelection and the GOP controls congress I believe wholeheartedly we will see them try and impeach him. They did it to Clinton, they will do it to Obama. I will not support that. That does not make a Democrat. Yes, in this environment it does make me anti-Republican. But that is neither my fault nor my problem. The GOP has brought that upon themselves.
Also, I did make the Nader mistake in 2000. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.Post edited by JimmyV on___________________________________________

So what it comes down to is people labeling themselves "independent" annoys you because they're not labeling themselves according to a labeling system you made up and presumably most people don't know about (assuming you don't spend your days educating the people around you on your own personal political labeling system)? Finally! Something I can agree with!
But really, I guess I have a hard time seeing where you're coming from on this one, because Minnesota - land of Jesse Ventura - actually has a fairly large Independent party. To me, an Independent/independent means someone who supports the Independent party (locally) or someone who may lean one way or another but who on occasion considers giving their vote to a third party. Is it surprising that many independents go consistently with one party over another in a nation with an entrenched 2-party system and no real viable third party candidate in essentially forever?
I think the OP's intention was to find out if there are moderate liberals frustrated enough with Obama to vote for Romney or if there are moderate conservatives frustrated enough with their own party to vote for Obama. I'm not sure why it had to devolve into this big semantics-fight (the best kind!), unless of course, you told us all about your labeling system just as a way to dig at "free-thinking" liberals (sorry, but that's how you come off).1998-06-30 Minneapolis

We are dependent on our 2 party system. The same system that is getting a 10% public approval rating.
So less then 10% of the voting population looks outside the two choices that 90% of us can agree are royally fucking things up.

Interesting thread.
Independent here, having voted for repubs and dems in the past.
Currently disgusted by the tea party led rightward shift of the repubs, but I think both parties are not interested in what's best for the country and the majority of the people. they are all about power and $$, just supported/run by different interest groups.
probably vote for gary johnson this year.0 -

That was my thought.
I'm anti-war, and both parties are pro-war.
But I always felt the Republicans were more pro-war than the Democrats. I still believe this to be true, but they are both pretty much the same in almost every way.
With that said, I also line up more with Democrats on Social Issues, Equal marriage rights, Religion out of Government, so those principles also drove me towards voting Democrat.
Now locally I've voted for both Democrats and Republicans when I felt the individual had more to offer. (usually it wasn't much more than the other).

I figured I would give this a bump with the final two debates now in the past.Post edited by whygohome on0

I may vote this way too ...
you are so right, neither party is interested in fixing our country.
I like them both as men though and do not fault them.
Our country is fucked.0
