  • Hey Don. I'm thrilled for you that your awesome dog Petey seems to be on his road to recovery. That is great news. We have an epileptic dog and she has been seizure free for many years thanks to her daily medicine. I hope you can have the same results with Petey. I also sent you a PM.

    Best of luck and Cheers!

Thank you to every one that has helped my family with what was a horrible week for us. We tried to do all that we could but to no avail we lost the good fight.

Sadly we had to put Petey to sleep yesterday. I wanted to let you all know sooner but I was just to heartbroken to reply the news.

Petey ended up having Valley Fever. This is a mold spore found in desert areas that effect humans and animals. Some people get pneumonia like symptoms. Others can just get the neurological part of the virus.

Petey didnt show any signs of being sick. He sneezed a lot but we were told it allergies. The Valley Fever is what caused the seizures. It was contracted a minimal of a year ago the Vet says and because he was so young and healthy he just didnt show any signs until it was to late. The disease spread into his nervous system and the size of the seizures and the frequency caused just to much brain damage it was in his best interest to let him go.

As you can tell we are all saddened. But it was very uplifting for us and especially my young one to read all your positive wishes and heart felt prayers.

I couldnt stand the fact of some one taking my dog so I took him out to his favorite walk along the mountains and laid him to rest there so he can watch the sun set. We will think of him at every sun set now. There will be not be another goofy dog quiet like Petey. He will be loved and always missed.

Maybe PJ can play Sad from Lost Dogs on Sunday in memory of Petey.

    Thank you.

Oh my god I am so sorry. When we did not hear any news I worried there had been a turn for the worse. Will continue to keep you all in my thoughts.

RIP Petey. I never met you but I feel like I knew you.

oh Don, I am so sorry to hear this. My heart just sunk to my feet seeing this news. Was hoping he would hang in there. Dogs are absolutely the greatest gift from life. I just wish we never had to give them back as we just borrow them.

The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

I am sorry Don! Such a pretty dog and Valley Fever can be brutal. :(

Not the same but I had to give my Rottie of 10 years up earlier this year when we moved and I still think about him every day.

Sorry to hear about your loss
  • Oh God Don...I'm so sorry to hear this news. When we put our dog down this past summer I frikkin lost it. And in turn my sons were even worse after seeing me in complete disarray. They had never witnessed their father an emotional wreck like that and in that moment trying to now fully understand the true concept of death. It was horrifying to see my boys start to question mortality and such. Thank God for my wife, she just knows how to make things change instantly without doing much at all. While I was trying to be all philasophical and what not in my explanations to my boys she says.. "Why dont you guys go play some video games?" My kids, like 99% of them all today are glued to their xbox and playstations everyday and I dont pay much attention to that crap at all..So I said yeah, cmon lets go play some video games. Next thing ya know 6 hours go by and I have a damn microphone strapped to my head like Brittany Spears talking shit to 12 year olds in Japan and my kids were having a blast :lol::lol: I guess what I am saying is..Go play some damn video games! Grab your kids, lay on the floor with a few pillows and as much junk food you guys can find and enjoy what ya got to the fullest, and go shoot some zombies! Before ya know it this will be behind you and your kids will be as happy as they ever have been. Don't let them see Daddy sad, and since they probably already have..Let them see Dad bounce back like the Champion he is. :)

Sorry to hear about your loss Don. I lost my golden retriever Jake last August after 13 yrs and was one of the hardest things I dealt with. As times passes it gets better and I'm sure you know that. Best wishes for you and your family :)
