    refinishing cabinets sucks.
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

That's a good plan, no matter what he calls you don't react, just sit there and let him have his tantrum and tell'em it's unfortunate it's come to this.

Aw man, that's a tough one on both sides. I guess it depends on the cause for firing...and it truly sucks trying to find/walk a line between compassion (if warranted) and looking out for your company.

    Good luck. It ain't easy!

it's done --- it was swift and i even started to say it before he sat down. Well that was my first one. I watched the scene from Moneyball to prepare myself

This got me thinking about firing people; I've had to do it a handful of times, and while it's never fun, it IS easier when it's for obvious cause...like the chick we found passed out under her boss' desk, or the other chick who had a propensity for flashing her business to the male employees. Those were always carried out with an unspoken "yeah, and fuck you" on my part.

But the ones where the person was decent, hardworking, and simply a product of reorganization? ...tough stuff.
