    I do love spicy foods...do not get me wrong! I just don't like when it has the capability to burn my eyeballs out!! :lol::lol: Then you can't really enjoy the spicy flavourings in there...like a fine wine... dammit...now I am hungry and thirsty!! :lol::lol:

    I grew ghosts last year here in Northern New England. One interesting thing to note though is that hot peppers are affected by climate. While the ghost pepper is capable of being the hottest pepper, it isn't as hot when grown in most climates, mine included. They did come out pretty darn hot though!!! Hottest pepper I've grown!
    I used them to make some hot salsa. I used a little bit of those mixed with other peppers, and used tomatoes, onions, garlic, etc that I grew and canned it. Came out delicious!!!! down to my last couple jars of it now...

    Also the farm I work on part time grows a HUGE selection of hot peppers. It's a spicy-food lovers paradise! :D

    I think I'm all better now. It wasn't the end of the world, and I dried up my other 3 (still have at least a dozen on the plant) and ground them up to go on wings, or maybe homemade potato chips. Also read that they can be hotter in warmer spots (with the summer we've had I'm pretty sure it was a good growing season for them). It was certainly hot, and fun to grow. Probably will do it again next year.

    it's so hot that i can't accurately say if this is true, but I think it's very sweet (like HOT sweet) for about 4 seconds, then the heat just keeps coming in waves. I dried my 3 ripes as well as some cayenne and jalapeno and chopped them up today. Sprinkled the mix on my Naan pizza and it was Fantastic. Flavor is there in small doses VERY small doses.

    Another remedy when you are overcome with the heat is to eat a spoon of sugar. I learned this in Bangladesh. I once almost lost consciousness from eating some chili made with habaneros. But I still love hot peppers. With leftover peppers, you can lay them out on a cookie sheet, freeze them individually, put them in a ziplock bag, and use for cooking as needed.

    +1...not because you almost lost consciousness, but because now I remember why I drink REALLY, REALLY sweet tea when I eat "home" foods. :mrgreen:

    Shimmy I haven't said this yet, but thanks for the instructions re: the baby. I def. don't want to make him feel bad/sick b/c of my love of hot food. Closed the kitchen off all day while drying the peppers, and washed my hands like 8 times after handling them so as not to make him feel bad.

    You are welcome. My parents would have us go over to a friend's for the day. Even after they would be done, my eyes would still burn for at least a day after...my parents made tons of pepper sauces! Literally hand milling 5 pounds of peppers on one day.

    Oh and if you can still smell the pepper use lime or lemon or vinegar to remove the smell. :D

    I wish I had the space to grow a veggie garden. One major downfall to apartment/condo living. :(

    Is this where we talk about peppers? I have a lot of cayenne and tabasco peppers growing. Any recommended recipes? Especially for yellow cayenne. Looking like I am going to have a lot of them. Planning on making a home made hot sauce with some of the red guys.

    we have some dorset nagas growing at the moment. my better half is a hot head...but when he cooks with them we have to be so careful, it's like pepper spray filling the kitchen.

    we have a lot of dehydrated peppers to use in cooking, too....but i'm no good for recipe advice. i'm still trying to add basic thai chillies to my food to build up the heat.
