They don't do day tickets at IOWF, so I expect people won't be online to say how it was until Monday.MedozK wrote:Wayne of J. wrote:Great setlist! Can't wait to hear "Rain"

Just got home from IOW - we left a day early as tomorrow is going to be a nightmare following all the rain (we were in the campervan field and every van had to be towed in or out by tractor).
Last night was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Didn't even notice the rain chucking it down until I was walking back.
Wasn't the best PJ show I've seen, but the set list suited the atmosphere of the festival, and everyone round me (down the front on Stone's side) really enjoyed it. Speaking of the crowd, was the best behaved one I've seen down the front at a UK PJ festival gig (almost the complete reverse of Hyde Park in 2010), but I think a lot of that is down to the people that attend IOW (I go most years and the crowd are mostly a lot different and nicer than the V's and the Reading's)
I met someone that posts on here, but I've completely forgotten your username - if you read this, then a BIG thank you to you and your wife for a very entertaining evening after my friends buggered off to watch Miles Kane and The Charlatans0 -
love Eddie's words and Jeff's thoughts ...0

Just caught Sky's coverage. they showed the second encore, Blood, Alive and Yellow Ledbetter, although the graphic for that called it Little Wing.
At the end Eddie introduced the band one by one, ill see if I can get this right....
Boom Gaspar
He had to get two work permits for this trip for Soundgarden and us, Matt Cameron
Mr Jeff Ament
You can call me Ed
Our fearless leader Stone Gossard
and he's all fingers, Mike McCready (who got the biggest cheer)
Crowd songalong with all three, so pretty knowledgeable all things considered.0 -

Lennon/Macca camp couldn't stop them if they wanted, so long as they get the proper royalties.0 -

Just got back to London and don't have to work 'til tomorrow so here are some initial thoughts:
This was my 7th show and second festival (Lollapalooza 07?). First gig out of the US (used to live there).
I'll never complain about a PJ setlist and really don't understand why anyone would. I thought this one was appropriate for the venue - especially Rain and Arms Aloft. Festival sets always contain a lot of hits, but it's more fun that way because a lot of the crowd would not get into the more obscure songs that we PJ fans love so much.
The crowd was pretty into it... I was right at the front on Mike's side. So close that we made eye contact a few times and also close enough to touch Eddie when he came down into the crowd during Porch. Got a guitar pick thrown my way but looked up just in time to see it hit the girl beside me in the face and then fall into the mud. Never found the pick, but did find a £5 note.
Mike's solo during Even Flow was awesome and he gave a little taste of Little Wing at the end of YL - crowd loved that. He was running around as usual, keeping the crowd going.
Rain was awesome and I'm sure a lot of Festival Goers in the back appreciated that, and also the respect payed to Joe Strummer. I was secretly hoping for a WHO cover but no complaints after hearing Rain!
It was cool to see the whole bang play Setting Forth... I wasn't expecting that, but then I don't really follow the setlists on here very closely. Maybe they've been playing it for a while now. I've only seen Ed play it solo. Sounded great.
Blood was very high energy and a great addition for the more seasoned PJ fans.
Weather was actually pretty good for most of the Festival... just Thursday that sucked. Mud and camping were a bit of a mess but par for the course for a UK Festival. I didn't have any problems getting there or back and it didn't affect any of the music. We avoided the main shit show of traffic on the way in by taking a water taxi instead of a bus. Means being on a boat in the wind and rain for 20 min and walking for 20 min instead of a dry bus, but it also kept me from spending 5 hours in the middle of the night on a bus w/ a bunch of angry people. What I am trying to say is that it was the lazy/uninformed people that had a shit time getting to the Festival.
Other acts that were excellent:
Tom Petty, The Boss, The Darkness, The Vaccines and many many more.
Overall it will be one of the most memorable shows I've been to because of how close we got. A lot easier than trying to score front row tickets to any other PJ gig.
Can't wait to see Ed in London!
That's all for now. Maybe will post some videos at some point. Peace!0 -

What an absolute load of shit and I take great offense at that.
How are you supposed to do it if you have a camper van other than driving there then given you can't stick that on a water taxi?
Every single year prior to this, it's taken no more than 30 mins to get from the ferry port to the camp site. On Thursday it took 10 hours and the chaos was caused by poor preparation from the organisers (it had been raining for days, why weren't the metal tracks already down, why did the lorries of sand not get delivered until the queues were already blocking the island solid etc).
How dare you suggest its down to being lazy or uninformed you arrogant arsehole0 -

The fans do love the more obscure stuff more than the general public, but even at PJ shows they cause huge dead spots. Hell, the deadest I've ever seen a crowd was their big "hit" from Backspacer.0 -

Well I guess an apology is in order. I didn't mean to come off as an asshole (and now I realize that I have) - I was only making an observation.
This was my first time to IOW, or any festival in the UK for that matter, and I was able to obtain enough information before the show and on the way down there to know that driving was not going to be a good option. I wanted to drive, but didn't, for this specific reason.
I was also able to figure out how to get to the festival w/o having to rely on the clogged island roads. I guess when I said what I did, I was mainly speaking about the people who sat in busses all night long. They added to the problem when they could have simply gotten to the campsite another way, then complained for the rest of the weekend. I guess I just got tired of people saying how unorganized everything was. I didn't feel that way at all.
But I agree, preparations should have been made to prevent the car park mess. You were obviously in horrible situation, having nowhere to leave your van once you figured out what was happening and likely nowhere to sleep if you had of found a safe place to leave the van. I shouldn't have made such a large generalization, seeing as the people who did decide to drive had no other option but to sit in the traffic all night long. Please accept my apology.
Sorry to be a dick and ruin a good discussion.0 -
Hey, look, no worries - apologies here too. As you may be able to tell, I'm still pretty annoyed about the whole thing, and was letting off a bit of steam, not your fault so apologies again.
When we eventually got there, some idiot directing traffic put us in the main car park, despite us asking twice if he was sure that's where the campervans go. Naturally we got stuck. He was not a popular person.
Saturday night went a long way to making up for it0 -
Second show for us on this tour...
Amazing. Untitled/MFC left me with a shit eating grin
It's a shame the festival was overshadowed by the poor organisation from the promoters but hey ho, Petty, Pearl Jam, Biffy, and the boss were all top notch.
There was a few absolute waste of space people down the front by us, but they soon moved away when they realised we were all there to have fun. On the flipside some random guy hugged and sang with us during elderly woman which restored my faith in humanity
Overall after sitting in a car for 10 hours and seeing the manchester 2 setlist come through realising we may have made a huge mistake, the weekend's performances really made up for it... roll on Berlin!0
