This was my first Pearl Jam show and all I can say is WOW!
I travelled down to Manchester alone, after breaking up with my ex a few months ago so this was just what I needed to lift my spirits. My spare ticket wasn't wasted though...someone I've become friends with through the Pearl Jam family (although only I only met her on the night of the show) came along and we had the best time!
From the moment they stepped on stage I got all teary eyed! I was hoping they'd play Jeremy as it was the song that made me fall in love with the band and I was so pleased when they did. I didn't care what they played, I just felt lucky to be in the same room as the band!
    Wonderful, thanks for sharing this.

Hey guys, this is my mates review of the gig here: http://planetmosh.com/pearl-jam-men-arena-20-06-12/
She also had a press pass for the first 3 songs so if you want some pictures they are here http://planetmosh.com/pearl-jam-men-arena-20-06-12/

It was the second time seeing them for me and to be fair it was going to be better than the first as i was ill after the ferry ride over to Belfast. There were a lot of strong numbers for me and after recent circumstances I found myself crying during Black which i honestly did not see coming, luckily Betterman was played later to even out the feeling. I loved watching Got Some and Do the Evolution.

I find it difficult to put into words how to sum it all up really apart from *its been emotional*. I cant wait to see them for a third time and hopefully i will get to see my favourite song, Cropduster.
    Lives in Scotland *23 June 2010 - Belfast* *21 June 2012 - Manchester* *8 July 2014 - Leeds* *Somepoint in 2016 Glasgow or Edinburgh??*

Ridiculously sincere … Eddie Vedder. Photograph: Gary Wolstenholme/Redferns
After more than 20 years together, Pearl Jam have acquired a certain gravitas. Since emerging from the grunge scene in the early 90s, the Seattle band have overcome a range of traumatic experiences – a deranged fan driving a car into frontman Eddie Vedder's house, and the horror of seeing fans crushed to death at Denmark's Roskilde festival – to emerge with dignity and commitment intact. Perhaps that explains the loyalty of their followers, some of whom have travelled from as far away as Greece to see them in Manchester.

The band's entrance has the air of a battle-weary army returning home: the video screens show the band in grainy black and white, rather than in HD colour. With opener Metamorphosis 2 performed in darkness, an evening with them is set up as part classic old-style rock'n'roll concert, part eerie commemoration – a little like a wake.

Pearl Jam were never really quite a grunge band, owing more to the classic rock of the 70s. Hair, where it hasn't fallen victim to the middle-aged curse of the sensible haircut, is flailed. There are chunky riffs, played with legs apart. But the talismanic Vedder somehow takes things into another, elemental, dimension. With the magnetism of Michael Hutchence and the spirituality of Michael Stipe, he is surely the only 47-year old frontman who crowd-surfs and plays a tambourine so hard during a riotous cover of Neil Young's Rockin' in the Free World he smashes it. At one point, he leans so far backwards with the mic stand he appears to be limbo-dancing.

Vedder is ridiculously, almost comically sincere. "How are you doing?" he asks, earnestly. "It's a question we ask of you as a collective, but we mean it individually." But somehow he always avoids self-parody, and with every hand in the air and sometimes every voice singing, the bond between band and audience is extraordinary.

A 150-minute set rifles through their back catalogue, from early hit Even Flow to 2009's beautiful, acoustic Just Breathe, to the sublime Come Back, played spontaneously after a request by a fan in the front row. There's a comedy moment when Vedder showers himself in wine, but when he movingly addresses the fatal accident at last weekend's Radiohead gig, you can hear a pin drop, and the subsequent Alive becomes an emotional blizzard, celebrating those of us still standing, and remembering some who aren't.

This was only my second ever gig, so no complaints about the set list from me. Major highlights for me were Release, Porch, Come Back and RITFW.

Release is one of my favourite songs, especially live and I couldn't have wished for a better opener for the two nights. I thought Eddie was bang on form with his vocals on this. Porch has always been a song I've preferred the album version of, but this is seriously a kick ass version, possibly the best I've heard. Come Back has special meaning to me so I was fighting back the tears in this one. I wondered if the request had come from the guy who posts on here, so really happy for him that he got his request. It was really cool of the band to do this for him. Finally, great ending for RITFW, everyone was partying at the end.

The only downside was some prick (possibly on drugs) angling for a fight with me for no reason. Wasn't going to risk getting kicked out so had to move further back because it was heading only one way. He'd already been bottled by someone before the gig, so he'd clearly just come along looking for trouble. Still he wasn't gonna spoil my night!

The show just went so fast, can't wait for the boot to relive it all over again and to see if the magic of the version of porch comes across as well as it did live.

Awesome videos! And what an awesome gig?!...It was certainly worth driving for 4 hours to be there.

Release is definitely my favourite opener...I think this one is better than the version at the O2 in 09! Glad I got to see Pilate, 1/2 Full and Come back as I hadn't seen those live before...And I don't think I can ever get tired of hearing Even Flow or black live! I really wish I had got tix for the second night too...damn lack of funds!

I've heard Release 3 times live now, and this was easily the best one yet in terms of crowd response and Eddie's voice.

Verona 2006 was emotional and beautiful because it was the first time hearing it and we were outside in the rain, so it felt very poetic. But, Eddie's vocals weren't the best I've heard.

Nijmegen 2007 was good but I think Eddie messed up some lyrics. Don't have an official boot so can't really remember how good he sounded.

Manchester 1 was just perfect. Eddie sounded better than he has in a while and the crowd sang along beautifully with him.

Great opening show of the tour. Loved the relaxed atmosphere of Manchester.
Pilate?! I think I went a little crazy for that one!
We were down front by Mike as usual, loads of pointing and picks hitting the floor in front of us ;) lol
Did manage to get a pick from Eddie as a little keep sake too!

Overall a great opener and set the mood for what seems to be turning into a great summer

I'm still sorta leaning towards the first night being the better show, but maybe its just because I was a teeny bit drunk for it. I still remember every moment of the show but I'd had a few cocktails beforehand at Norweigan Blue in the Printworks.

Porch was absolutely KILLER. It seemed to go on forever without ever getting boring. It destroyed everyone in a good day haha.

I can't stop thinking about that version of Release though; one of the best I've ever heard.

This setlist had to have been written with me in mind - Release into Do The Evolution, Nothingman, Pilate, Given To Fly, 1/2 Full, Arms Aloft, RIFTW. The band totally read my mind!

How long were you in there for? I was so happy that we had seats this time around so we could chill out with drinks until about 8.30pm and then casually head to the arena which was about 2 mins away.

We went to the Norwegian Blue after the 2nd show. There were loads of fans from the gig, so the DJ was playing PJ song after PJ song! Everyone was on a high... was a great atmosphere!

What a week! I'm suffering from withdrawal symptoms... PJ withdrawal... Petty withdrawal... Springsteen withdrawal... London & Manchester withdrawal... I can't tell you how much of a bummer it will be to go back to work tomorrow.

Anyway... Thought I'd post this here - apologies if it's already been asked/answered, but I have too much Internet to catch up on!

At the end of this show (Manchester 1), the security seemed to be handing out something to those on the front row... It looked to me like CDs... Any ideas??
