good for the dad. I don't envy those making the decision here. If there is a stroke of luck in the situation, it happened in Texas. I highly doubt there will be charges.

Anyone think he should be charged with manslaughter/murder?

LEGALLY SPEAKING...we live in a society of rules and laws, therefore I think the father should be charged with manslaughter or murder without premeditation, etc. ( I'm not a TX law expert), if it is applicable. I suspect his sentence will be something very minor, however, like 1 year probation or something.
    This.
I don't think he did anything wrong, but he did break the law.

I think he saved the taxpayers of Texas a good deal of money and made overall society just a smidgen better.

Oh No! I have been there. If the man kills him and does not get in any trouble. Justice is right. If we have to pay taxes to keep him in jail? just because he did a protective thing , that is so wrong. I would do it too, just not killing. But he would never walk right again. Most Juries look away.. in TEXAS anyway.

Agree but Markin Ball has a good point. As awful and sick as the pedophile's crime was, he wasn't threatening the life of the girl. Can you (legally speaking) justify killing someone in self-defense when the original perpetrator wasn't threatening anyone's life?

I just hope that the father's attorneys are able to make the case that the father was defending the girl's life.

This is, of course, assuming that everything we know about this is accurate. If we weren't previously, after the trayvon martin thing, we should all be hesitant to jump to any conclusions based on initial media reports.

Meh. If he pulled a gun and shot him, maybe we give it a cursory look. But he punched the dude a few times in the head and the guy died. And a mandatory ass-kicking was in due order, without question.

Plus, this is Texas where you can shoot repo men in the back of the head at 150 yards and not even get a citation due to cattle rustling laws. There may be laws where this guy gets a parade on the books.

Agreed, if you want to be pragmatic about it (no sarcasm intended). Something like this though, so difficult to react without emotions pushing through.

IF charged , I see not guilty by reason of temporary mental disease or defect. Heat of passion type thing.

I doubt this guys death was intended or thought about by a rational mind. I dont have kids , but I could certainly see an explosive rage rises coming upon this scene.

I agree, the fact that this father and is daughter now have to deal with what this arsehole did for the rest of their lives is bad enough. He should be let off.

totally agreeing that its sad that anyone had to be so angry and distraught as to beat anohther human being to death
    that being said
    i totally get it
the report did say that the case would be investigated and turned over to the DA's office for a decision on whether or not to charge
even if he is charged, i don't think we could expect any jail time here
it should be investigated just to be sure everything happened as the man says it did
there are people nuts enough to make something like this up to justify and hide their actions
    not saying that's the case
    just saying it does happen
for that little child i feel sad sad sad sad sad
this is something that will effect her entire life and most likely the lives of her eventual relationship partners and possibly even her children
    horrible
    peace,

This is what I was thinking - how it will affect her young psyche, not to mention her body.

I'm glad this guy won't be able to do that to others.

(and I have to wonder, how many before her?)
  • I have two daughters who are my world, one turns 6 in two days, one turns 3 in two months. I'd probably have done the same, but that doesn't mean it was within the confines of the law. There is such a thing as reasonable force. Did he NEED to kill the man to protect his daughter? Probably not. Not unless the perp had a weapon.

Of course our emotions are swayed because this is a small child being victimized.

but the justice system is built to take emotion out of the equation.

I hope the guy rots in hell and the young child can recover as well as her father. I also hope they investigate to make sure the story is correct and if it is no person should ever be punished for protecting anyone in this situation. Man, woman, child, adult...doesn't matter. Sexual predators are the lowest of the low. They aren't trying to steal your money, possessions, etc. They steal your soul. They need to feel power over you. These people can not be reformed.

I think the investigation will be handled how it should, in the end, I doubt the grand jury indicts

But as the sheriff said, he was acting in defense of a third party.

I am not sure how many times the dad hit him, but it can take only one in the head to kill someone.

Vent here and let it the fuck out, but for your and her sake, keep your head about you out there.

Call the Police and comfort your daughter. She needs you at this time. The justice system will take care of scum like this. Fellow prisoners love to take liberties with predators like this in jail. Let him experience that pain and feeling of helplessness. Let them rip his fucking soul from a waste of a human being.

Thanks for letting me rant, obvisously I didn't do anything stupid last night to end up in jail (yet) We have gone to the police and it is in their hands for the moment. It was close, i know where this scumbag lives and I stood at the end of the laneway and thought of many things, angry can be hard to control. There is alot of road work being done where he lives and it was very hard not to pick up a shovel or any of the pipes that were lying very close by. Still very hard for me not to do anything, I'm still vibrating and I've only been up for 1/2 hr, shed many tears already this morning and everytime I do I want to kill this motherf*cker. You never think this shit is gonna happen to you. Again thank you guys/gals who passed on words, prayers, thoughts. Much appreciated. He is apparently gonna be charged with 3 counts of sexual assualt.

DS119 your right as well, all I can think is that when this dirt bag goes to jail, he will get whats coming to him and I hope they use a broom stick with a razorblade on the end.
