Oh please, so if you have kids you have to make albums every 2 or 3 years, and tour 12 dates each leg?

people make too many excuses for this band.

"Give them a break" when they don't tour for PJ each one if touring with someone else. Why not concentrate on it and give the fans what they really want... a full scale tour. One of two legs.

2006 was the last big tour they did.

Oh please! If you have a relationship and kids there's not a single thing more important in your life. Why on earth at this stage of their lives/careers would they choose to vanish around the world and leave that behind? These are a bunch of guys approaching 50 who have worked their collective asses off for longer than some 10c members have been alive. The slowing down proccess started the day the 2006 tour ended and it will never change back now. Side projects keep them fresh and active and hopefully in turn influences the writing/recording process so that they can recapture some of the magic that is less frequent lately. They have given plenty and they appreciate the return they get every time they take to the stage. They don't need to make excuses every time some petulant brat chucks their rattle out of the pram because if they were doing this job just for the money they could have bailed out a long time ago. Take something real like Roskilde to put this into perspective and put your protesting attributes to something more worthwhile. This could have all ended back on that day in June 2000 yet people still expect the world from them. They have every right to their side projects too and it's ridiculous to preach about what you think others should do with their lives. Have a bit more respect for them for what they are before criticizing them as musicians, they are middle aged husbands and fathers with people who depend on them more than you do.
Really well said Veddertown. I'm happy they are still making music and I like all the "side projects"

  • I'm eagerly awaiting the new album, whenever it gets released!! :D

And I am very grateful that PJ are still touring, no matter how long the tours or even where they tour. I feel like I am making up for lost time, having not discovered them until 2010. I will be happy with whatever they decide to do with regards to touring and releasing albums! :D

if you like the music, you should support it. i (for one) love Brad & can't wait to hear their new record. they aren't doing a major tour & they recorded it around PJ's schedule.

as a musician yourself, you should know that having someone support your music and/or projects really gives you a lift. PJ's fan support may be larger than Brad's or Tres Mts, but that doesn't make it more important.

ahh whats with the hate on Backspacer?? not sure if the Foos new cd is better than Backspacer..love their song "Rope" and maybe one or two others but cmon ...cant compare them to Pearl Jam...Backspacer was a solid album and worth buying for "Unthought Known" alone

Fair enough - if you really like their music, you should obviously support it. I agree with that. But, if you're kinda just buying it because it's PJ-related, that's dumb if you would prefer a new PJ record sooner. And, if we're being honest, people here may pick up brad just because it's PJ-related. Even I bought one of their albums early on due to that and I admittedly don't like them.

Anyway, Stone did say that Brad isn't a side project. From my perspective, that's just an annoying statement because it relegates Pearl Jam. Brad wouldn't even be meaningful at a minute level if weren't for Pearl Jam's existence.

I think you'd agree that musician or not, everyone's entitled to an opinion on music.

But, I understand you. In sense, you're reiterating my point, that even with the "lift" their not very good. In fact, I think their music is not really tolerable to listen to. They have enormous amounts of resources and abilities at their disposal to funnel their songs to a worthy music loving audience... and in my opinion their music is still awful... let me rephrase to be less critical,... in my opinion they're worse than a large portion of bands with little to no resources. Their lack of radio play, despite all these resources, says most agree with my take. So, in my opinion, their album sales and support are simply a function of the "lift" you described - or having a soapbox (through PJ) and a label. It has little to do with their music. Other side bands like Mad Season, Audioslave etc. prove how negligible bands like Brad are in the greater picture. Obviously, this is all my personal opinion... but, the words stone used (not a side band) kinda brought this out.

This is not to say that Stone isn't awesome... he is. I just don't like Brad.

It always amazes me and gets my back up when people start to sound like they are entitled to whatever they so desire from PJ,and any band or artist....Should you not just be grateful that they are willing to share their art at all??........My opinion.....Just sayin........I will be patiently waiting, and not bitching and whining........

so true, some people are just like sharks... I can't understand this kind of "hysterical impatience", they still tour every year – even though some are not completely satisfied with that – and there is pleeenty of PJ music to listen to until the new album will be released. Probably I am too naive, I suppose those same ones who are so dissatisfied with the tours, have already listened to all possible bootlegs and rarities and... where the hell do they find the time for all that? I can't manage it!! So, I'll continue enjoying the many good things I have, looking forward to the release of the new album, whenever it will happen. Peace.

Maybe this just means that 2013 is going to be a huge year....especially for the US. Album release in 2013 with a monster US tour (west coast, midwest - MISSOURI or IOWA, Texas, South, east coast). That would be nice after PJ21 at Alpine again this year.

Wish in one hand and shit in the other....see which one fills up faster.

When I was in high school my entire room was wallpapered in PJ garb. Photos, passes, ticket stubs, you name it. Hell, I learned guitar from the guys, playing their songs over and over until I figured it out. They were a huge part of my growing up and as a 35-year-old they still are.

Twenty years later the band I listened to a million times is still talking about putting out albums. 2013, 2014...who cares, I'm happy they are still around at all. Let the guys do what they've got to do, be happy that they still like to tour (and drag their families along who also sacrifice family time so that these kick-ass men can share their music with us) and get on with your lives.

I have been through some downright horrific stuff in my life. It's too short to complain about when an album is coming out, I promise you that.
