I don't know about any Foo album but Wasting Light is light years better than Backspacer. Not to say Backspacer is bad because it's a nice 35 minute album. Bottom line is Dave Grohl is 100% committed to his band while Ed is probably 50%. PJ is slowly slipping from relevant alternative band to nostalgic, grunge survivors. It's a natural evolution but it didn't have to happen. Neil Young has stayed relevant and released more albums than PJ this decade and the guy is pushing 70. Bruce tours more than PJ as does DMB. There's a reason they only play certain cities, they don't have near the following in other parts of the country to support arena, amphitheater type shows. It's a choice they made over the past decade, if they had gone in another direction they probably wouldn't even be together at all. I say don't complain and just be happy they tour every few years. Expecting anything else from these guys, all pushing their late 40's is setting yourself up for disappointment.
Vedder could fart into a microphone for 40 minutes while Boom soloed on his Hammond B3 in the background and it would be better rock music than a Foo Fighters album.Shows: 6.27.08 Hartford, CT/5.15.10 Hartford, CT/6.18.2011 Hartford, CT (EV Solo)/10.19.13 Brooklyn/10.25.13 Hartford

I love it how people feel like deserve advance advance notice of a possible tour in the next 8 months.
And that they should 'tour properly'
They will do what the hell they like re touring. I recall the last USA dates didn't sell out unless in the north east .... Seriously why people feel they are entitled to this is a mystery to me. just because they are American? Wake up they have a worldwide fan base - and to be honest the USA hasn't done too badly of late
As for the album - it'll come when it's good and ready0 -
Vedder town - you put this so much better!veddertown wrote:Jeremys Spoken wrote:Oh please, so if you have kids you have to make albums every 2 or 3 years, and tour 12 dates each leg?
people make too many excuses for this band.
"Give them a break" when they don't tour for PJ each one if touring with someone else. Why not concentrate on it and give the fans what they really want... a full scale tour. One of two legs.
2006 was the last big tour they did.
Oh please! If you have a relationship and kids there's not a single thing more important in your life. Why on earth at this stage of their lives/careers would they choose to vanish around the world and leave that behind? These are a bunch of guys approaching 50 who have worked their collective asses off for longer than some 10c members have been alive. The slowing down proccess started the day the 2006 tour ended and it will never change back now. Side projects keep them fresh and active and hopefully in turn influences the writing/recording process so that they can recapture some of the magic that is less frequent lately. They have given plenty and they appreciate the return they get every time they take to the stage. They don't need to make excuses every time some petulant brat chucks their rattle out of the pram because if they were doing this job just for the money they could have bailed out a long time ago. Take something real like Roskilde to put this into perspective and put your protesting attributes to something more worthwhile. This could have all ended back on that day in June 2000 yet people still expect the world from them. They have every right to their side projects too and it's ridiculous to preach about what you think others should do with their lives. Have a bit more respect for them for what they are before criticizing them as musicians, they are middle aged husbands and fathers with people who depend on them more than you do.0 -

While I find the Foos work to be pretty weak of late...I generally agree with the rest of what you said. Sadly...lastexit78 wrote:

Well more money to save for tour time! Got Ed twice this month, that works for me. 8-)PJ: 10/14/00 06/09/03 10/4/09 11/15/13 11/16/13 10/08/14

Both discs of Lost Dogs are far better than Backspacer. Ponder that one for a moment....0

I remember these guys talking about a new album 6 months after releasing backspacer and 3 months before alpine....wtf happened? Bummer..... I hope they are inspired and feeling the pressure to create a great album...0

Yes, I'm sure that will help a lot.kenneth gossard wrote:..... I hope they are inspired and feeling the pressure to create a great album...

so people are debating over pearl jams recent tour schedules and their reasons for this. there are some valid points here, and some silly.
thinking about it myself, i can see that the possibility of a 2003/06 style tour is most probably a thing of the past, but the recent tours have been a little dissapointing in terms of dates, but not the shows themselves. so i put it out there if they can meet us half way, and do a tour in the scale of somewhere in the middle in terms of dates. surley a few more shows here and there wouldn't hurt too much. for example the last 2 visits to europe have been 5 shows, and 10 shows. so surely say 14/15 shows is doable, and the same for elsewhereGlasgow cathouse-1992-2-23, San diego sports arena-1995-11-06 & 07, Glasgow secc-2000-06-03, Tampa st petes times forum-2003-04-13, London O2 arena-2009-08-18, Belfast odyssey arena-2010-06-23.Leeds 2014 - 07-080 -

To be honest, we shouldn't really be surprised with a 2013 release. Since Riot Act the standard has been an album every 3 and a half years. We've since got a year to go, its only been 2 and a half years since Backspacer.2000: Manchester
2006: Dublin; Leeds; Arnhem
2007: London
2009: Manchester
2012: Manchester I & II : EV Manchester : Soundgarden Shepherds Bush
2013: Brad Manchester : Soundgarden Manchester
2014: Amsterdam I & II; Berlin; Leeds; Milton Keynes
2018: Berlin; London II; Boston II

Wasting Light is not my fav record, I even backed out from buying it on vinyl for $11-12 - but it's more coherent and listenable than Backspacer. And is not far from Avocado.I don't know about any Foo album but Wasting Light is light years better than Backspacer"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
I dont know what u guys saying, but im gonna see pj this year and at Europe and USA...."...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".

The new album being pushed to 2013 isn't surprising at all.....I had been expecting that. The lack of touring in the US is the most frustrating part.0 -
I will wait in quiet anticipation. If their outside projects and tours give them new energy, who can complain? I am just thankful that they are still together.i look forward to many more years of getting tid bits of joy from pearl jam... so what's the rush?0

i agree..thrilled these guys r still together and sounding better than ever0 -
to me this all stems from Matt being the full-time drummer for 2 active bands at the same time

if Soundgarden didn't reunite, there likely would have been an album and supporting US tour this year. all the other stuff (Brad, Ed solo, etc) is for the other guys to fill in their time / attempt to satisfy the masses.0 -
theres a lot of other cool music coming out this year, not to mention the wealth of unreleased material, demos, shows, etc. going to see clutch next tuesday...maybe more shows this summer, but eagerly awaiting soundgardens new record. happy b-day mike. mad season : above & live @ the moore is also another great escape. i personally am glad that they're taking their time with the next record, so hopefully we'll get something epic like riot act or vitalogy... but there's still that e.p. that was promosed.....
