my point being - they could be more creative with their old songs, especially ones they play over and over again, that's all.SLC 11/2/95, Park City 6/21/98, Boise 11/3/00, Seattle 12/9/02, Vancouver 5/30/03, Gorge 9/1/05, Vancouver 9/2/05, Gorge 7/22/06, Gorge 7/23/06, Camden I 6/19/08, MSG I 6/24/08, MSG II 6/25/08, Hartford 6/27/08, Mansfield II 6/30/08; Eddie Albany 6/8/09, 6/9/09; Philly 10/30/09, 10/31/09; Boston 5/17/10

EDIT: Oh and what about the re-worked version of Garden? WTF do you people want? They pull out rare songs and rework songs every tour. There really is no pleasing some people.PORTLAND - 18 JUL 98 // TAMPA - 12 AUG 00 // PORTLAND - 02 NOV 00 // SEATTLE - 05 NOV 00 // SEATTLE - 09 DEC 02

Pearl Jam works harder than most bands at keeping it different and fresh for themselves and for the fans.
To those questioning how they aren't sick of Even Flow or whatever, the answer is simple: Life on the road is repititious and can be very gruelling. I imagine the band has a handful of tunes they play almost every night 'cause their fuckin' good at playing them. They can slip into them easily and give a great performance without thinking too hard about it. It's comfortable. So there's that part of playing, staying consistent, and then there's the more daring, artful, exploratory part that wants to dig out old gems and switch songs around.
I think they do a pretty good job at balancing the two.Using the word "methinks" in your message board posts doesn't make you look smart.0 -

even playing the 20 "worse" song... the show will be motherfucker.

san sebastian 2000 (binaural tour)
vitoria-gasteiz 2006 (pearl jam tour)

oh, so saying that there's something I'd like PJ to change makes me a person who needs to get a life? give me a break.
I believe they're a great band, I love their interaction with the audience and I'm entitled to my own opinion about certain songs and have every right to speak my mind.
I have written already that the 2007 setlists are great so don't give me that shit here that some people can't be pleased.
and my god, would I love to be in copenhagen right now?!?! the setlist is insane!!!1996: warsaw; 1998: kansas city; 2000: katowice x 2
2006: bologna, verona, torino, prague, vienna
2007: chorzow0 -

I understand what you're saying-but I won't say anymore0 -

It's not me you have to tell it to. When i said to that guy to check out Wembley set list, i meant it in a good way, i.e i also don't think they are boring.0 -

Agh! next time you should definitely go! not only the show was amazing, but i also met some people who also like PJ. They have these nice meet ups where every PJ fan get together in a pub and gets drunk0 -
Mohab wrote:Is it the end of Pearl jams progression as a live band? They seem unable to move beyond their current reportiore (sp?) of live shit and are stuck in the obvious rut of better, man YL and a few who covers to close every show. Wheres the passion in that? They have been at times the best live band out there, I care enough to mention it, but i could come up with a thousand musical variations they could come up with to perform, and it would be a great show, only obviously they are caught playing to a sort of mainstream of thie rfollowing. How much can the band take, esp. if they no longer need the flow. They play the same stuff yar in year out, they all have it licked.
their newsest record is fucking wicked, I dont think theyve lost it at all, I just think they are getting complacent, cause the set lists I read look like the same ones I was readin in 2000, 2003 and 2005. Ill see em any chance I get, but i have a bad feeling the last show I see of them is gonna be a bab YL love in and I think they can doi so much better. They play some cool stuff, but need a major shakeup and cut to pride/return to exciting form by playing smaller shows casue obvioously theyed lose the fanbase who comes to hear half of ten every summer.
yeh i kinda agree.. we are only getting a few rares each set.. they have tonnes of songs.. im sick of stuff like given to fly, go, animal, do the evolution, greivance, insignificance etc its too 05 and 06sy and even previous years.... for a start they have barely played any binaural since 2000!!
and they need to play more stuff like dirty frank, wash, breath, deep, leash, hard to imagine, down, sad, alone, brain of j, all those yesterday, oceans, sometimes, who you are, in my tree, smile, off he goes, red mosquito, mankind, im open, around the bend, not for you, fatal, u, undone, hold on, strangest tribe, all or none, crop duster, tumbing my way tremor christ, nothing man, gods dice, breakerfall, parting ways, of the girl ... THEY CANT MIX ANY OF THOSE TRACKS INTO THE SETLIST MORE OFTEN? THERE ARE STILL WAY MORE THEY COULD PUT IN!!!0 -

I'm glad you met others that like Pearl Jam at a Pearl Jam gig!
I've seen them twice and they were the best two nights of my life!0 -
I think that Pearl Jam may very be well heading towards the end of their musical progression in general. There new album was so formulaic, and was the first one that didn't expand off of the one preceding it. Their live act has gotten stale, even with the switching of the set list, it doesn't matter, because it's as if they don't have a direction to go in anymore.
I didn't want to believe it, but they have really gotten, for lack of a better word, boring.Life reveals what is dealt through seasons

hmm. I thought it was better than Binaural.0 -

I know that every PJ show I go to, I say before the show "I hope they don't play (insert song title here)". The fact is though, if they they do play the songs that I say that I don't want to hear, I'm still singing my little heart out with a big smile on my face because you remember that you are watching one of history's best live acts performing at the peak of their powers.
Moral of this story - Be grateful for every moment with these legendary performers because you never know when this rollercoaster ride is gonna end.0 -

I agree 100% and I kind of agree with the original poster. There are some sad people on this forum that won't even consider debating a minor criticism of the band and try to ridicule people for even cotemplating criticism.
Newsflash#Eddie Vedder shits just like the rest of us.A reputable source told me.So does the Queen of England.
Debate is good people!
Imagine if the band came out and played an acoustic version of evenflow like in the unplugged show instead of the same old version...
I think the original poster was asking for a bit more imagination in some of their older songs. The band have shown it to a small extent with the slowed down Porch and heavier Present Tense which are awesome.0 -
I have no issue with criticizing things. What I have a problem with is saying they should change the way they play some of their songs when they have DONE that. They just haven't changed the songs these particular users think they should change. Well, wah...PORTLAND - 18 JUL 98 // TAMPA - 12 AUG 00 // PORTLAND - 02 NOV 00 // SEATTLE - 05 NOV 00 // SEATTLE - 09 DEC 02
