I would love to see PJ at Alpine again, or anywhere in the US for that matter... But Kiss & Motley Crue are playing Alpine the weekend after Labor Day. I find it hard they would have shows 2 weeks in a row considering they only have maybe 5 a year. Hopefully Alpine is turning things around to host more shows cause I love the venue.
They're already doing that earlier in the summer:
Phish - June 30 & July 1
DMB - July 6 & 7
They have done back to back weekend shows for years..doesnt factor into any planning.
seems pretty crappy of them to book a room today at rate A and if X happens, charge you rate B
that is the dumbest thing i've ever heard.
any hotel i've ever made a reservation at, you get the rate you booked at when you booked the hotel.
For 3 years running I've had my hotel in Austin for ACL at $110/night - when people walked up looking for a room they were charging $350/night... my rate didn't get changed from the day it was booked.
talk about gouging.
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.

i'd be on the phone to a manager if my rate changed.
I have my reservation, but have heard rumors it could be Jimmy Buffet labor day weekend, but I still have my fingers crossed!

Not sure if any of this is true but I'm still holding out hope that the rumor that PJ signed up for 3 years at Alpine is legit. And yeah, the changing reservation rates thing is a bunch of crap but after dealing with the staff at the resort last year I'm not surprised. But we split the room cost among 4 people and it was worth it to not have to worry about driving anywhere after the show. Although it did make me miss out on tailgating, couldn't easily walk from the hotel around the front to the parking lot

Way back in the days of the AET radio show, didn't Tim mention they were looking into making the weekend a yearly thing?

Way back in the days of the AET radio show, didn't Tim mention they were looking into making the weekend a yearly thing?
I can't remember. I wish the AET show was still on every week! I'm not sure they would want to do this every year but it does sound reasonable that they might have signed up for a 3 year deal in order to get their way on some things for PJ20.

This is the part I'm not getting - what special stuff did they have that they NEEDED to sign a 3 year agreement to get? The place is clearly set up for the Museum, VIP, etc. The extra stages would seem to be something they do very easily if the bands are willing to foot the bill. Tailgating is standard (or Buffet wouldn't go there ).
So, what exact accomodations were made for the weekend that are so out of the ordinary that AV would make them sign a 3 year agreement? While I've never been to AV before, nothing they did seemed that out of the ordinary.
The only thing I could see is they said - don't worry, we'll get 30K there if you let us do a 2 day festival, and if we don't we'll make it up to you. But, considering AV was basically closed last summer EXCEPT for PJ it would seem the other way around (AV would be bending over backward to get this sort of thing there in the first place rather than forcing the act to sign multi-year agreements).
I have no idea if this is happening or not. Just this line of thinking which has been there from the beginnning never made any sense to me.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

most shows don't start until 7-7:30pm. they had the venue doors open at noon. that would be something different.
i doubt many concerts have a muesum or bands playing along the back wall starting at noon.

That being said, IF PJ plays Alpine again this year, I don't think it'll be a big fest like it was last year. Maybe a normal 2-night stand with an opener if anything.

Guys,PJ Labor day weekend IS happening at Alpine Valley. This year and next year are done deals. Multiple sources through the Sherrif's dept at Walworth County have confirmed it. My cousin is a police officer there and a huge PJ fan. He told me about PJ20 and the 3 year deal there in Feb 2011. Get your rooms. You've been warned.

I don't see any reason why they would have to sign a 3-year deal, but maybe they did. Either way, I won't be there. Sorry, I just don't have any desire to spend my long weekend in but-fuck nowhere wisconsin. My trips to the midwest will continue to be for Lolla in August...
I guess that's going to be Pearl Jam's one US show every year for the next 3 years... cause if they do a tour of the east coast they won't have a prayer of filling the place...

Those are some big assumptions. It could very well be the start of a tour, similar to Canada last year. And if it is considered the "Chicago" shows, it will still sell tickets. I don't think it was 100% filled last year

I booked at the Americinn... they don't have a cancellation fee.
The thing I like most about time is that it's not real. It's all in the head. Sure, it's a useful trick to use if you want to meet someone at a specific place in the universe and have tea or coffee- but that's all it is- a trick. There is no such thing as the past. It exists only in the memory. There is no such thing as the future. It exists only in our imagination. If our watches were truly accurate, the only thing they would ever say is "Now". That's what time it is. It's "Now". - Damien Echols

I did a search to stay from that Saturday through Monday and here's what it says: Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel, you must do so by 04:00 PM 09/01/2012 or your credit card will be charged for one night's stay.
I'm looking at this one:
Super 8 Delavan

Same one, right?

So because they had a festival at an abandoned venue they need to sign their name in blood?
And they set up curtains?
Hmmm. Ok. I'm giving PJ's manager more credit than that.
Again, it seemed to be AV needed it more than PJ did. I guess they did have to mow the lawn last summer b/c of this.....
