My guess would be a close friend or family member possibly, just to get it going early on. Just a guess. If you are on the boards though, SHOW YOURSELF!

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
slide in sideways, BBQ sandwich in one hand, cold beer in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo what a

The earliest 10c members, if they are still members would have had to be a MLB fan club member. All the first 10c members were rollovers from MLB. They would have had to voluntarily join 10c the following year (1990? 1991?) At least that's what that postcard said in the Ten redux that Jeff wrote after Andy died.
I may be the newest. Let my 217XXX lapse a few years ago, now I'm at 487XXX. This soldier has to work his way back up the ranks!
Does this happen if you miss the renewal, for example, by 1 day? Or do you have to miss for an entire year to lose your number?
Not that it really matters for me since my number begins with a 4 (I kick myself EVERYDAY.....I have loved this band since Ten but never thought to sign up for the Ten Club until 2009 )
I remember after seeing PJ in 96 my dad telling me they had a fan club. I remember thinking "I couldn't care less about spending money on a fan club for postcards and stickers..."

I know a guy who works with a guy who supposedly has a 3 digit member number...
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

You have a 30 day grace period after your expiration date to renew. On day 31, you lose your number. And I'm pretty sure that's calendar days, not business days. I completely forgot and almost missed mine this year. Got it with a week to spare. I already lapsed once back in... '96 I think. Didn't renew again until 2000. I had a 70,000 but now I'm in the low 200,000's. It's still paid off a couple times!

The "if you are on the boards, please show yourself" thing is still valid though!
