"Audioslave" - Nearly 10 years later

the thing that always amazed me about audioslave was how just 4 guys could produce SO much sound. if you notice on every one of their records the write...everything you hear was performed on an instrument (guitar, vox, bass, percussion). Cornell's voice alone in my opinion is a high powered instrument. Teaming him up with guys who play their instruments in a similar style was explosive.

Agreed about producing so much sound. Tom Morello, while not being a virtuoso type talent, has one of the most unique playing styles ever.

Anyone familiar with at least one Rage and one Audioslave album could pick out Morello's sound like a sore thumb. He's definitely distinct. I think that's kind of a trait that Tim shares too.

This November will be the 10th anniversary of this record. This album is one of the first rock records that really became something to me. A lot of the songs remind of certain memories, some vivid, and some more broad... like a small era in my young life. I love this album and it's a strange feeling to have a record with that type of impact on you, that you remember being released and gaining momentum, reach it's 10 year anniversary.

I mention this show a lot, but it's because it still is one of the best and memoralbe I've seen. I got to see Audioslave in 2003 at Lollapalooza. It was a long, hot fucking day in the Utah summer out at an amphitheatre with no natural shade. 13 hours we were there and a thunderstorem interrupted the show. They asked all of the audience to return to their cars and come back to the amphitheatre when the rain stopped (it was a pretty heavy rain). My brother and I were dropped off and had no car, so we sat in seats and embraced the rain as it came down on us. It felt like it was washing away the tiredness of my body.

When the show started up, nearly the whole crowd moved towards the floor in front of the stage, including us and the only two acts left were Audioslave and Jane's Addiction. An unbelievable show by Audioslave... something I'll never forget. Chris's vocals being top-notch, Tom Morello playing the guitar like a fucking madman, Timmy C's bass that you could feel in your body because it was so loud, and Brad at his drums... back to the crowd, seeing us only in a reflection of the gigantic mirror that was the back drop for the stage. Their little flame logo, made of the same reflective material, was suspended above the stage. Whoever was working the mixing board that night deserved a promotion, I had never heard live music that good before.

I smoked a joint for the first time that night and sang and rocked with a bunch of stangers. It was the first time at a concert that, to me, the crowd felt as one.

Great memories, a great fucking rock show, and still a great album 10 years later.

This post is much longer than I intended, but like the show, I got into the moment.
