    Thanks for all this. This'll be my 3rd time in London including living there for 6 months 2000-2001 so I'm cool with getting around. That Oyster card sounds worth checking out though. I had checked out getting to Luton etc. It's £12.50 I believe but yeah, like I said haven't actually booked that flight yet so still checking things out. Friend's of mine in London & Amsterdam who travel between the 2 a lot have recommended the Luton Easyjet flight. Even after paying to get to Luton still works out they said but yeah I'm still checking.

    I just thought of something.. are you a poster whore like me? :D If you are and have time, go to Greenwich! Check out the market, Flood Gallery (which is in the market) and the Prime Meridian! It's accessible by the tube/DLR, I think about 40 minutes. I spent an entire day there, it was awesome. The market has all kinds of artists/designers selling their stuff, very cool to talk to them. I bought the best hoodie ever from one of the designers.

    Thanks for the information. The Mrs. and I still have the same Oystercards that we each bought on our first UK trip in 2007. On our last trip, we got oyster card holders from the British Music Experience.

    In addition to the cost of getting to an alternative airport, it is also a good idea to assess the possible stress it may cause as well!

    I don't really do posters at all tbh & definitely won't be lugging them around for a month. I did the Greenwich thing one time when I was in London. My ex took photos for a project he was working on at the time there but I'll keep it in mind.

    I'll definitely check out this oyster card too & getting it before I go. :)

    Could I kindly get some advice on which one of these hostels I should stay at in London. I'll be heading to london on the 22nd after the Manchester shows until the 25th, the day I will travel to Amsterdam. I don't know if I will take the 5 hour train to Amsterdam or fly. I prefer to fly so could you kindly keep that in mind when looking over the hostels here on this link.

    Anyone got tips on how to deal with all the different currencies? Travellers cheques? I've not passed through so many different places with different currencies when travelling before & as much as the visa card will be great sometimes you just need cash. Any ideas re the best way to do it for the least fees? TIA.

    I've done quite a bit of travelling throughout the world and use a Mastercard linked to the UK Post Office which gives an excellent exchange rate and no fees anywhere. So i just take the minimal amount of cash wherever i'm going and usually find that the card is accepted for even very small amounts in the majority of places. I realise that won't help you but it's worth checking out if there is an NZ equivalent card that charges no fees. From my last experience of travellers cheques in Europe they can be problematic as in some cases you have to go to a bank to get them exchanged for cash.

    this is always difficult call ... all you can do is check with your bank what are the costs when withdrawing cash from ATM in different countries, whats the exchange rate on your credit card and then compare it with actual rate at an exchange office in individual city. and then decide if to go all in cash or credit card. Hard to estimate how much SEK, NOK or DKK will you use in each individual city tho ...

    so when i sum it up .... i wouldnt bother too much. have a beer and enjoy the show. overall we are spending already that much that some extra fees will get lost in this ... ;)

    Just a quick thing but did you go through the order process on easjyets website? It's just I know you said you were taking bags and they add fees for that and a couple of other things. Still better than the BA flight you found but I just know that booking with easyjet usually ends up costing nothing like the initial fare I find :shock:

    ... and damn that's expensive for a BA flight this far in advance. Usually £50-£70. Sorry for sending you on a wild goose chase!
