Ed swearing during songs.

I'm no prude and am not the kind of person to get offended by anything really and I'm not saying it offends me but when Ed throws swear words into songs that don't have them normally it doesn't really do anything for the song and put's you right off singing along. It's also pretty inconvenient as I have to cough in the car or at home so the kids don't hear! :D

Faithful - "through all of this fuckin noise I'm through with screamin'"
Severed Hand - "You'll see dragons after 3 or 4 I said fuck yeah"
Sleight Of Hand - "Trapped on a road he fuckin' knew by heart"
There's even a version of Black with, "I fuckin' know you'll be a sun, in somebody elses sky"

There are tons more I can't remember right now but it really does fuck all for me!! :D

    :D

    I kinda like it!! ;)

Gets my frustrations out and adds a little bit of the surprise element. Win / Win situation for me!!

    :lol:8-)
The thing I like most about time is that it's not real. It's all in the head. Sure, it's a useful trick to use if you want to meet someone at a specific place in the universe and have tea or coffee- but that's all it is- a trick. There is no such thing as the past. It exists only in the memory. There is no such thing as the future. It exists only in our imagination. If our watches were truly accurate, the only thing they would ever say is "Now". That's what time it is. It's "Now". - Damien Echols

Even in interviews they cuss a lot. The only version of PJ20 I could consider showing my parents is the one from PBS. At some point you don't need to be saying the F word three times in one sentence. It's not an anti-establishment thing at this point.

Who cares if kids hear it.
They already have learned it in school off other kids.

Funny the OP brought this up. My best bud and I have been listening to PJ for years. We are in his minivan (yeah I know) and he has his kids with us (6 and 4) and he's playing Why Go. Its get to the :

    "She's been diagnosed
    By some stupid fuck
    And mommy agrees" part.

Well he turns the volume way up and him and the kids sing instead She's been diagnosed...by some stupid duck"! It was hilarious. 8-)

Ha ha. I do recognise this. I am no prude either nor am I a stranger to swearing myself, but I do not swear in front of my children and I skip the songs containing profanities when I play PJ to my kids. Or I very suddenly develop a censored version of Tourette's.

My 7 year old son's favourite album is Satchel's Heartache and Honey and the first song (The Return Of...) contains the phrase "fucking heartache and honey..." so I always start with song no. 2...

I know children will learn swear words at some stage, but I want to be able to at least exercise some control over it and avoid situation like when we had our neighbours' 5 year old for dinner, who expressed his surprise by exclaiming "Fucking Hell"!

That said, I do enjoy the occasional "fuck"

  • I don't have kids so I love the swearing! I just sometime get embarrassed at red lights and will admit that I sometimes turn my music down if I am next to an old man or woman or young children. I can curse like a sailor and nothing beats listening to Eddie say "fuck!" for me.

    Hey Fuckers! He Still Stands!

Love this one !! Plus, it belongs to the crowd now 8-) .

Really like the 'fucking' pills in Down, too. I sort of miss it when it's not there, and I sing it anyway.

On the other hand, the only one I can think of that I get annoyed at is this one, both by its sole presence (it doesn't really fit in the song to me) and the way it sends the line a little off balance :

Oh, she walks slowly, across a young man's room
She said "I'm ready to fuck you"

Adds more meaning to the song. I'm sure your kids aren't listening as close as you think they are. Probably don't even notice it. If they do hear it, oh well, you can't ear muff them forever.

I dig it. I like my ed angry. ;)

and judging from boots I've heard so far, his swearing's not too bad. especially in between songs. but that could also be cause I'm used to dave grohl's banter, which has loooots of fucks.

but yeah, nothing they won't pick up at school at the latest. my dad's first grade pupils call each other gay as an insult without remotely understanding what it even means, I find that to be much worse than a few fucks and shits.

Agreed on Present Tense, though the Sleight of Hand one is ridiculous. There are times when it's appropriate (Rearviewmirror), times when it's neither here nor there (Faithfull), and times when it distracts from a great set of lyrics and goes against the atmosphere of the music (Sleight of Hand). The third kind is when it makes me cringe.

I think some of these are kinda painful in a Old School wedding band sorta way. Sleight of Hand and Black don't need the fucks. There's already plenty of emotion packed into those songs.
