    I'm almost speechless

content, not to be superseded by the use of a single word (or maybe a string of them spat out with the raw emotion that is part of what makes us love this band)

I don't have kids so I love the swearing! I just sometime get embarrassed at red lights and will admit that I sometimes turn my music down if I am next to an old man or woman or young children. I can curse like a sailor and nothing beats listening to Eddie say "fuck!" for me.

    Agreed

I love the word fuck. Use it constantly, and love screaming it when it comes up in a song. Use it so much that I'm completely de-sensitized to it and dont even realize I say it. (almost like 'um' or 'ya know'. It's just a fucking WORD, big deal. Christ, people are too pussified today.

You like it so much, you even quote your own posts about it.

  • Personally, I'm very censored, just comes natural with 2 little ones at home, but when it comes to music and art you have to express what you feel and sometimes you can't emphasize unless you drop an f bomb, etc... It's his music!! And if that's how he's feeling when he's performing, BY ALL MEANS!! ROCK ON!!! \m/

eh, I know but the FUCK in CAPS represents shouting duh.
He shouts it live, watch the pinkpop 92 video and you'll understand what I mean.

Oh, where oh where can my fucking baby be?
The fucking Lord took her away from me
She's gone to fucking heaven, so I got to be fucking good
So I can see my baby when I leave this fucking world.

We were out on a fucking date in my fucking daddy's car
We hadn't driven very fucking far
There in the fucking road, up straight ahead
A fucking car was stalled, the fucking engine was dead
I couldn't fucking stop, so I swerved to the fucking right
I'll never fucking forget the fucking sound that fucking night
The fucking screamin' tires, the fucking bustin' glass
The fucking painful scream that I heard last.

Oh, where oh where can my fucking baby be?
The fucking Lord took her away from me
She's gone to fucking heaven, so I got to be fucking good
So I can see my baby when I leave this fucking world.

When I fucking woke up, the rain was fucking pourin' down
There were fucking people standing all around
Something fucking warm runnin' in my eyes
But somehow I found my fucking baby that night
I lifted her fucking head, she looked at me and said
"Hold me darling just a little fucking while."
I held her fucking close, I kissed her our last fucking kiss
I found the love that I knew I would fucking miss
But now she's gone, even though I hold her fucking tight
I lost my love, my fucking life that night.

Oh, where oh where can my fucking baby be?
The fucking Lord took her away from me
She's gone to fucking heaven, so I got to be fucking good
So I can see my baby when I leave this fucking world.
    Oh, fucking oh

Oh, right...caps. Well, I guess that makes your argument, um, just as invalid as it was the first time.

  • I went as far as making a mix on my iPod of non-swearing Pearl Jam songs so I didn't have to worry about it. I actually looked up the lyrics on this sight so I didn't make mistakes. I don't always pay that close attention to the lyrics. I have screwed up with bootlegs in the car, but then I swear a lot when I drive so I think it's probably worse when I do it then Eddie. I can control it everywhere else but behind the wheel.

  • I don't have kids so maybe someone can explain... they're just words aren't they? And considering there are some really young kids out there that swear like sailors they're going to pick it up at school/kinder or whatever pretty quickly
I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!

And before we get too much tit-for-tat on this one let me just say it's a minor point and I really don't give a shit. I'm usually not a prick on here. However, those are the original lyrics so they don't apply to the OP's post and Ed shouts "fuck" in just about every version of that song barring the televised performances.

    Sorry I somehow upset you.
No need to act that way. I cannot be bothered wasting my time on you if you are going to be like that.

I think kids should be allowed to be kids and talking like sailors isn't being a kid in my opinion. Everyone has a different standard, but I don't want to hear my daughter swearing in front of me so I try to model the same. I am not always the best at it.

  • doesn't putting something off limits make it all the more appealing to kids (and adults)?
Like if you just treated it as a word rather than making it a big deal maybe they wouldn't use them so much?
