I think the next time Eddie Vedder plays, You Got to Hide Your Love, he should start off by say,
"I would just like to say that our band (Pearl Jam) is better than The Beatles and The Rolling Stones and The Kinks and The Who and whatever else British Invasion band or great band, because some guy of the Pearl Jam forum said so and a bunch of people who don't know shit about music because they are so obsessed with our band (Pearl Jam) that they have blinders on when it comes to appreciating other music agreed with him.
Also eat shit Tom Petty, Bruce Spingsteen, CCR and Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, Brian Eno and Bowie, you suck also and anyone else I may have left out, and Abbey Road and Exile on Main Street doesn't hold water to Pearl Jam's best albums, now here's a Beatles song for you."
Some people on here need to stop drinking so much Pearl Jam kool aid and realize that there are and have been PLENTY of bands as good or better than Pearl Jam, just because they are your favorite doesn't mean they are better than The Beatles or Rolling Stones, I'm sure if you asked ANY member of Pearl Jam if they think they are better than The Beatles or Rolling Stones they would laugh in your face. I like Dr. Pepper more than any other soda, does that mean it's better than Coke? The Gorge is my favorite music venue, does that mean it's "better" than Red Rocks or MSG?[img][/img]9/5/92, 11/20/93, 3/14,15/94, 9/16/95, 10/14,15/2000

jervin007 wrote:Pearl Jam is a great band, but IMO don't compare to The Beatles. They have put out some amazing albums over the past 20 years, but look at what The Beatles put out in half the time, how they evolved musically, and single handedly influence the path of music. When "Tomorrow Never Knows" was released on Revolver most artists of the time started reevaluating their music. Just insane how influential they were.
I agree with covering "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"....that would be just amazing.
Have you ever heard the Grateful Dead live versions of Tomorrow Never Knows that they did from 1992-1995, they would do Baba O' Riley into Tomorrow Never Knows it was freaking AMAZING, but most people on this board wouldn't have heard this because they were in Jr. High or High School when the Dead was tearing those tunes up. They (Grateful Dead) also did great versions of Rain and I Want to Tell You before Jerry Garcia died and Phish has been playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps for over 15 years now and it's fantastic.
One of my greatest Grateful Dead concert moments was actually 19 years ago yesterday in Denver, Jerry Garcia had been sick and they had canceled all of their fall tour on the east coast, the first shows back were in Denver, they played a really good show, came out for the encore and played The Beatles: Rain, one of my FAVORITE Beatles song ever.
That's why I get upset when people try to compare the people that tour with or follow Pearl Jam around on tour with Deadheads or Grateful Dead, it's not the same people and it NEVER will be, I HAVE done both, saw Grateful dead 169 times all over the country, west coast, east coast, midwest, south EVERYWHERE and I have seen Pearl Jam all over about 35-40 shows, as I like to say, it's like comparing apples to cannon balls. But Pearl Jam is what I do now and I love it, it's just different, that's also why I don't get all pissed that they don't really play in Texas, I am used to having to travel to see my favorite bands.[img][/img]9/5/92, 11/20/93, 3/14,15/94, 9/16/95, 10/14,15/2000

If I was in my early 20's, I would have chalked up the ridiculousness of this thread to being on acid. Since I'm 31 now, I'll chalk it up to a flashback instead. Wow. Just wow.
Love Pearl Jam or not, comparing them to the Beatles is absolutely ridiculous. For one thing, if PJ had ever had to deal with Beatlemania, Ed would have quit the band before they even got past a second record. I don't even need to go beyond that part of it. Musically, the Beatles recorded 13 albums over 6.5 years (2/11/63 was Please Please Me, yup recorded in one day; and Abbey Road was finised 8/20/69) - SEVEN of those are absolute masterpieces. Their output, their influence, and most remarkably, their ability to deal with absolutely crippling invasion of their personal lives are unmatched, and, for reasons that have more to do with the dilution of popular music fanbases and distribution methods, never will be.
I mean I love PJ, but this thread is just patently ridiculous0 -
What's even funnier is that several people have pointed out that OP has misspelled The Beatles and the OP hasn't even corrected it

It is worth mentioning that the ORIGINAL name Stuart Sutcliffe liked was "the Beetles", and for a few shows in 1960 they were billed as "Long John and the Beetles". I'm sure that's what the OP was referencing.0
