I'm sick of everybody mentioning these two bands when it comes to 'greatest band ever' arguments. I get it, the beetles wrote let it be and shit- so what, pearl jam wrote black, yellow Ledbetter and even flow- boom that just happened. Fuck off losers, pearl win based on the fact that they have more talent. The end

well said....I guess :? I agree Pearl Jam is a better band and music makers that the Beatles and Stones. Its tough to judge Era's but if I had to go member by member PJ would win every spot.

The one spot those bands may win is exploiting themselves better than PJ. They were the real careerist. :D
Some words when spoken...Can't be taken back...
  • Anyone would think we're on a PJ fan forum!! I can think of a couple of songs from both bands which are better than anything PJ have ever released.

I've never been a fan of either of those bands and think "better" is in the eye of the beholder.

But for me those two bands transitioned rock and roll.

Pearl Jam is better, to me. Because they are my band. I'm not from the 50's or 60's or 70's... I'm speaking as a child of the 90's.

    You're 39! That makes you a child of the 80's... ;)

    PJ is better. Hands down.

The Beatles on the other hand, are the greatest and most influential musical group of all time. They're untouchable.

The RS are legendary, but not in the same league as the foursome from Liverpool.
Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.

    I agree with you 100%!
Beatles and Stones have never and will never do anything for me.

If I want 60's I'll listen to The Doors, Velvet Underground, The Who, Beach Boys, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix.
But no band comes close to Pearl Jam, Nirvana perhaps but Pearl Jam can never be toppled for me.

The Beatles really wanted to call themselves The Backspacers but did not want to risk a lawsuit from the members of Pearl Jam.

Fair enough if you don't like The Beetles :lol::lol: or The Rolling Stones. No-one is forcing you too. But you have to acknowledge if neither band existed Pearl Jam and many bands that we all like wouldn't exist. The Beatles & Stones paved the way for all bands of the last 20-30 years. And they continue to have an influence.

Ps. Gimme Shelter is one of the greatest songs of all time.

wow - I don't know if I even want to get into to this....... its like wine, you like what you like - it's fairly pointless to say either is better - just enjoy them.

PS - would there be a PJ without the Beatles or Stones, or the Who or Neil Young???

PPS - I would vote for PJ of course

  • I've never heard of the band the Beetles but I do know of this incredible band called the Beatles. Is Pearl Jam better than the Beatles? That like comparing an apple to a watermelon.

A pointless thread...but for PJ to topple the Stones, Beatles and so on they might first need to get into the top 10 which they aren't. What the Beatles did in their relatively short time as a band can't be toppled. They wrote more music in half the time than PJ.

And, just as importantly, The Beatles sparked a cultural revolution.

Pearl Jam is a phenomenal band, and they'd probably land somewhere in my top 10, but comparing them to The Beatles is ludicrous. Saying they're better is delusional.
