As they came out show by show, I was thinking, "pretty weak." But on review, those top 5 are actually pretty dang strong! Every argument that any of my top 5 could be the best, I just think Emek went above and beyond this time. My personal preference does not favor darker skull, blood, bones theme so the Cliver and Klausen bump down, but those are hella nice -- the Cliver is very strong! Great start for him! Could easily rank 1 or 2. And Soto's is really outside his zone, so I really appreciate that -- almost wanna say he's been looking through Klausen's work. Even the Kozik was starting to grow on me, just for the craft of it.
Munk One is just on it these days, poster by poster over the past few years, you'd be hard pressed to identify him as the artist -- it's all about the art. I really dig that, client first. Klausen, Emek, Ames, Sperry you can always see their hand in the work -- and of course they're great. So I'd be prepared to throw Munk One on top (again!) but c'mon, Emek just went nuts this time.
The Dabs & Myla is a fun kinda whimsy, growing on me. Ames is nice execution, but thought it was a repeat or similar to a previous one? Nothing special to me, uninspired as usual -- it's the rare Ames that wows me these days.
And then, yeah, the one show I'm at with my poster curse -- sigh. English Lamb boy! OMG that's bad, uninspired typography/lettering, a repeat of one of his previous pieces, a skull down there, cartoonish but some kinda dark whimsy. Just not feeling it. And I didn't look at it for more than 5 seconds, but have heard -- it's not even a freakin screen print??? It's offset?!?!!? Fail. Not even in the ballpark, he's still in a cab riding to the game -- and it's the bottom of the seventh!
And as horrible as my poster curse has been, that's the first time I didn't buy a poster from a show I was actually at! $30 for an offset, please. Thank god the Vancouver event shirt (native bird art) was so cool!

not dark whimsy...just a google search for "wolfman model" and steal what was already there ^^^^

hehehe, i dunno, SFIII '06 the ames "war" model parts piece is right up there -- at least that had some kinda theme I guess. San Diego '09, that's at least interesting to look at -- for a bit.
As I wrote in my fanview -- I'm almost giddy when I see a really bad poster at my shows now. Some kinda reverse correlation -- the more awful the poster, the better the show!
Thank god my poster curse only applies to PJ and not EV solo! I'll take that!
I know this might be a little off topic. But when did gig posters stop being gig posters and start becoming something else? I always thought gig posters were created to promote the band's concert. Maybe the gig poster has evolved from that into something else (what we have now). But for me, the simpler the poster, the better....

Ames put out tons of garbage. Why do people love these guys so much???
I do like some of their posters. For years they made poster for the entire tour. That must have been crazy for them. Still they managed to create some nice posters.
I have all the MTL posters s/n on my wall in my PJ room but this is gonna end this year. I personnaly don't like the Soto posters. The colors, the bird....even the lettering. You can hardly tell it's a PJ poster.

Maybe the gig poster has evolved from that into something else (what we have now). But for me, the simpler the poster, the better....
I just read an account of a famous poster artist allegedly getting screwed over by Bill Graham in the '60s when they both kinda figured out these were becoming "collectible" commodities (Bill and the artist signed a contract for royalties, and the artist alleged that he never got 'em, nor a copy of the contract back from Bill). But I'd say it's been a long time that the "promotional" poster and the "collectible" poster have diverged.
But the SF Fillmore has been giving away collectible gig posters for over 40 years.
A number of factors involved -- big acts don't need promotional posters slathered all over town, they pretty much ONLY do collectibles now -- merch. Small acts do plaster the town with cheap posters ... and when they finally get big, those posters become mighty collectible.
How the f...k I didn't see before this thread
IMO some really good one and some really ugly ones...here is my rank
1. Emek/Edmonton (IMO best Emek this year and best PJ/EV Emek ever, regular edition, no need to mention foil)
2. Soto / Montreal ( colors and lettering are just amazing, again best Soto ever)
3. Klausen PJ20
4. Munk One / Toronto 1
the rest is just ok
5. Cliver / Saskatoon
6. Kozik / Calgary
7. Ames / PJ20
8. Klausen / Hamilton
the rest is really bad
9. Simkins / Winnipeg
10. Ames / Ottawa
11. Dabs & Myla / Toronto 2
the last one I don't even want to put on the list

that is one damn fine poster... wish we could have gotten something that nice on Canadian tour... I mean there were a couple of them I liked, but this blows them all out of the water (including the EMEK).
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.
The Pearl Jam 20 in the leopard's spots is a nice touch. Other than that, the poster does nothing for me. Love Sperry's work but a bit disappointed with this one.
But it's a lot better than some of the Canada posters!

I think it's alright. Wish those stars wasn't in the inside of the Pearl Jam / X titles. Question: Is this the first print to have Pearl Jam text 2x on the print? One on top & one on the jaguar?

Assuming there is one. I would love for 10c to tell us not fortunate enough at the show if this will be available in Goods. I would love this poster, but I am not sure if I am up for the price this weekend for the signed version. 10c would save me a ton of money if they said "yes, it will be available" which would help me pass on the artist version this weekend
