How is the PJ20 Deluxe DVD versus the BluRay?

I grabbed the DVD special edition once the Bluray special edition sold out.

...will it format correctly on a flatscreen (via a bluray player), and does it look pretty clear?

Wondering if/when mine shows up whether I should leave it sealed in hopes that a bluray comes out again, or if it's close enough to not miss the HD quality.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

Same boat..got the DVD deluxe..but most Blu ray players have 1080p upgrading...and alot of the footage wasn't filmed in hi-def..so unlike alot of newer movies my thought is it will be not so different..I have the movie on Blu ray from Best Buy..so when the deluxeDVD set comes can see difference.

it doesnt matter if it was filmed in HD anymore . they just convert it to HD..... you see the Nirvana DVD they just released from 1991 live at the paramount

  • Well, you could all be like me and be a complete idiot. I bought the BluRay on accident, I wanted the Deluxe DVD because I don't have a BluRay player or a Flatscreen TV. I'm still in the Caveman days. Also, my BluRay on my computer doesn't work for some reason. Says it has to download some Key thing but it stops downloading and freezes. Yeah for me, now I gotta get a Bluray player and I'm freaking poor. But it's my own fault. Idiot! lol!

Well if they convert it to HD..then it should be good..cause my Blu ray player has 1080p upgrade for DVDs. I imagine it is a similar process.

That depends on what they shot it in. I can't really tell but that Nirvana concert might have been shot on film. If that was the case, then there is enough resolution so it will look great when they transfer it to HD. Also notice though that it isn't in a wide aspect ration, it looks closer to 4:3. The stuff that was shot on standard def video wouldn't look as good (there is a lot of that throughout PJ20. They can upconvert it but it won't look as good as say those new interviews with the band members that Cameron Crowe did for PJ20.

for the best possible audio hookup and MAKES A WOLRD OF DIFFERENCE ... FIBER OPTIC CABLE from the bluray player directly to your surround sound system ... if yours is not hooked up that way you are missing out on a lot of awesomeness... the difference is amazing

  • or just use an hdmi cable?? a lot easier.

as for the nirvana at the paramount, i saw it at the cinema and have it on bluray. the audio mix is ok but nothing special and the video looks like grainy SD. but it's a fucking awesome show... just to watch grohl.
Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.

FYI the PJ20 Blu-ray is 1080i, not 1080p. I'm assuming they did this so they didn't have to alter the framerate of the old video content.

there is a big difference I imagine but is like when you rent a movie that is not release on Blu-Ray... you don't care, at this point I'll play the DVD's (got this one when the BR was sold out) and think to myself, this is not available on Blu-Ray so I will enjoy it more...:lol::lol::lol: otherwise I'll kicking myself for a long time!!! ;)

    That's fine with me!

So, I used to use optical cables all on the back of my 13 year old reciever. Then once I realized HDMI cables also had audio, I assumed it was the same quality audio as optical. Accurate or inaccurate?

...and still looking for a good side-by-side review of the DVD deluxe played on a bluray player vs Bluray deluxe played on a bluray player.
