I was on the fence and didn't buy.

I'm glad it's out of stock so now there is no decision for me to make. The consipracy theorist in me thinks the 10c pulled it out of stock due to the backlash they were getting...

I already have the PJ20 movie via torrent (thanks youknowwhoyouare!)

Someone post the other two DVDs and I'm gold....

I am planning on getting the regular Blu-Ray because... I mean, how many times would I watch the fans disc? Once... twice, maybe. Same goes for the other disc.
if anything Disc 2 seems worth the price of the whole boxset alone.
The Kids Are Twenty (Disc 2) is avail able through iTunes for $17.99 (HD)...

So, the fan disc (Disc 3) is the only thing exclusive to the 10C...

Seems to me its a perfect business tactic. It's OUT OF STOCK, not SOLD OUT...so there is bound to be more....but naturally with any rabid fan base, it will put those people who are on the fence straight into BUY mode once they pop back up for sale.

^^ I think this is the truth.

What good does it do 10C to limit the item so much so that it is completely sold out prior to it's release? I mean really? Are you going to limit your profits by just deciding, "Nah, that's enough copies printed" even though the demand clearly hasn't been met?

I've been on the fence about this item for weeks... I mean $70 for a blu-ray? Really? I don't care if it is a blu-ray, that price is outrageous. Especially seeming I've already spent $12 to go see it in the crappy little theater they released it in.

I mean even at a $1/disc to manufacture, possible $5 for the packaging, and another $5/unit for mass transport and handling from China (cause we all know that's where it's coming from)... that's over 500% mark-up + shipping.

If it is truly out of stock, I think I'll thank 10C for making a dumb business move that saved me $70.... because I know I eventually would have caved....
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.

Exactly. Once this thing comes out and people start talking about what is in it, they could definitely sell a ton more. I was on the fence and didn't buy it, but I can't imagine them forgoing the profits by never offering it again.

Physical cost of goods, yes. But what we're really paying for here is the labor associated with production of the films. It's the exclusivity of disc three more than anything (regular Blu-Ray available stand alone & iTunes, The Kids Are Twenty on iTunes).

It doesn't say "Sold Out", it says "Out of Stock".

This means they are waiting for more from the manufacturer...

Their warehouse can't hold infinite supplies.

That is a completely different issue because of the type of industry the posters stem from. Posters are "art"... and I don't know if you collect any actual "art", but I can tell you it is very frowned upon to re-print things after the original printing... it very frequently outrages collectors and makes an item less attractive to buyers as they start to see the images in more and more places...

There is a local artist where I grew up that does drawings of the city... at first, when he wasn't doing his own printing, things would sell out, and that was it. Now that he does his own printing he releases and re-releases his own prints so many times it is disgusting and people won't buy his stuff anymore, cause they see it everywhere.... I mean the guy will do a run of 1000 prints (all signed and numbered), then do another, slightly more expensive run of 1000 "A/P"s, and then another run of 1000 "P/P"s... slightly more expensive again... I liked the guy's work, and I own 1 or 2, but I had a conversation with him about it, and it essentially boils down to the guy is just greedy. And other local artists dispise this guy for what he is doing to Newfoundland art...

I'm probably going to watch the "Fans" disc once and never look at it again. The concert disc will get the most use by far, as i like to have live concerts on while I am around the house doing other things.... and the PJ20 movie... well realistically speaking, there's not much production costs associated with the film other than Cameron Crowe's.... and he loves PJ so much he probably just did it for cost and to put his name on it...

So let's say you add another $10/unit for overhead... now you're at $23/unit... that's still over a 300% mark up... are you trying to tell me you're just going to re-coup your investment costs and then stop selling the blu-ray?? that has to be the dumbest business move I've ever heard of.

Obviously there will be a buzz about the blu-ray once is comes out, especially on this forum... are you going to tell me that 10C has decided that those of us who were on the fence about it, and now want it after hearing the reviews can't have it? Again... stupid business move at a point in time when it is not possible make money off of releasing a record....

Those are extremely broad assumptions to make on something that you have no specific knowledge of actual cost. Who said they're just going to just re-coup investment costs? I'm talking specifically about the Deluxe Edition. Typically companies make limited edition goods because there's a limited audience for the product (rather obvious in this instance - it's all about us). It's simple risk management. The cost of getting stuck with thousands of unsold units far outweighs the risk of selling every last copy and missing out on potential sales.

It's Out Of Stock, not Sold Out. I really think that's Santos' way of saying, "Hey Fuckers! If you're on the fence, now would be a really good time to step up and buy this because they're almost gone!"

I posted this in the Yikes thread about 2 weeks ago....So now imagine the uproar the day they stop selling these and they go to out of stock. Since this is a pre-order item you can guess they will press however many are ordered plus a few extra but no more beyond that. Add to that its a 10 Club only release so that I would think that my friends means someday the same people complaining about the price etc will be the ones wishing they had gone for it earlier. Just my two cents!

I feel so prophetic right now! I love how some are already complaining about this being limited, probably the same ones who complained about the pricing. Chastising the 10C for issuing limited goods, really come on people everything has a limit and this one was available to purchase for weeks. So for those who did not buy it already you have no reason to whine now!

Could it just be out of stock because the "presale" is over and it will come back once all of those are shipped?

"Unless we hear differently later today, No, they are sold out."

So take that for what it's worth. I am bummed, $80 for the Blu-Ray was bad enough but there is no way I'll pay $70 for DVD.
