the worst for me must have been when ed started to play man of the hour and some dude behind me gets a phone call and starts yapping in a load voice! i was honestly ready to turn around and knock him out by some other guy told on him first lol. and i cant forget the guy who yelled happy birthday to his friend who was arcoss the way. and the guy yelled back "thank you"0

It could have been due to the fact that there were constant camera flashes all over the theatre and it was blinding...just maybeToronto Sept 96. Barrie Aug 98. Toronto Oct 00. Toronto June 03. ha! I know exactly when yer talking about... during Hard Sun right in front of the mic stand on the right of the stage? I saw Ed mugging for someone's camera and I thought that was very cool... and definitely not something he would have done 10 (5??) years ago!
you should upload the vid somewhere!0 -

Honestly, there's not a chance that Ed could see anyone in the first 10 rows most of the time. If you ever have a chance to get on a stage when its lit up you'll see what I mean... the artists are practically blinded by the stage lights. Its why Ed will look so vibrant in any photos.
The only time he could really see people is when the house lights were up as well... which is why Hard Sun (and Ledbetter at PJ shows) is done this way. Plenty 'o crowd interaction at that point!
So don't be disappointed... it wasn't anything personal.0 -
Is this lame shit happening in the 10C seats, or up in the balconies? Heading to DC in the morning, just wondering what to expect."Fuck the talkin', let's start rocking." - E.V. 9-5-00

Based on Montreal/Toronto, its mostly the balconies. Then again, its just a shit-load easier to hear those people because of the acoustics.
As someone else mentioned, people are making a bigger deal out of this than need be, IMHO. Ed got a real kick out of some of the comments and seemed to be enjoying the comedy routine at times. But yes, it gets a little out of hand at times.
Hope DC is great!0 -
Night one idiots we bad, but Eddie seemed to take it all in stride with the comebacks. Made me laugh near the end when he said "You fuckers are getting out of control". Some guy near me was screaming out stupid song requests and laughing at himself like he was saying the funniest shit ever. "Lightning Crashes"! was one of these requests.
Night 2, was glad to hear people yelling out for the others to shut the fuck up.0 -

Thx for the info. No one could ruin it for me anyhow, I plan on enjoying the show no matter what!"Fuck the talkin', let's start rocking." - E.V. 9-5-00

Honestly...Night 2 was a hell of alot better than night 1 as far as the hecklers were concerned. Maybe it just seemed that way because I was in my 10club seats...I don't know...but the crowd seemed to police itself that evening.
The drunk hecklers were either met with a resounding "Shut the fuck up" from the audience, or humiliated in front of everyone by the man on stage.
Eddie really put some of these clowns in their place.
What continued to baffle me was the idiotic requests from people. "Crazy Mary"? "State of Love and Trust"? "Jeremy"? those people should bave been thrown out on the grounds of stupidity alone. You'd think after going to Night 1 that the fucking "Jukebox Eddie Vedder Man Love Brigade" would realize the type of show that they were in for.
It's amazing that these frat fucks even make it to college.
They have the retention, comprehension, and social skills, of a garden slug.
Anyone with a backwards baseball cap and excessive Abercrombie apparel should be locked in a sound proof room. Just lock the doors, feed them a ton of beer and let them piss, vomit, and fight each other all night while the rest of us sit back and enjoy the show.0 -

That was classic--LOL!
Yeah, the flashes were irritating...a little hooting and hollering is understandable...a few people got carried away but, as other have said, Ed seemed to take it in stride and there's no way I'm letting others ruin my fun time!Forget your perfect offering, there is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in. - Leonard Cohen0 -
When EJ (the female singer with Liam) came on stage to sing Helpless with Ed, a guy shouted 'EJ I'd bang you!'. She was such a lovely complement to Liam, and did a great job. I think that was the worst comment, and very rude to someone who was going to perform. Ed said 'remember there's a woman on stage'.R.i.p. Rigoberto Alpizar.

I don't think so. I was in 4th row aisle second night, and within the first 4 rows, there had to be 10 cameras or more recording. Security gave a half ass attempt to shut a few down, but really didn't seem to care. Ed definitely played into these cameras/digital recordings at different times - often when standing playing guitar.0 -

I said it before and I'll say it again...that sort of thing really brings out Ed's character. And that, my friends, is priceless...you can't buy that shit, and you may never have another chance at an experience like that in your life. If the crowd had been completely silent the whole night (in terms of heckling) you wouldn't have had nearly the show you got...it would have been plain, like putting in a studio recording of a live show.
The songs are amazing, wonderful, awesome...but it's what happens between the songs that makes the night something to remember. I can't remember the exact setlist from 98, but I sure do remember Ed booting a football into the crowd and talking about the living room set up on a truck bed. Same for 2000 when Ed said if "that little fucker George W Bush gets in, we'll be moving [to Canada]"
Sure there is always that one person in your local area that annoys you on a personal level. On night 1, there was a couple from Buffalo behind me and the chick sang along with _every_ song off key. Oh well...it happens, it was still an amazing show for me.
Don't go to a concert expecting a studio recording.0 -

it's not necessarily the stupid shit in between songs - it's the stuff in the middle of songs ... like on the first night - he's playing his solo on rise and someone's yelping ... that's just rude ...
or when he's trying to tell as story ... whether he's thinking about joey or whatever - there's some ahole interupting him ...0 -

i agree. they were just absolute jerks. the montreal folks knew how to behave in a theatre except for the one nimrod on night one who kept yelling "eddieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee".
some people just don't get it.s
