Derrick wrote:I said it before and I'll say it again...that sort of thing really brings out Ed's character. And that, my friends, is priceless...you can't buy that shit, and you may never have another chance at an experience like that in your life. If the crowd had been completely silent the whole night (in terms of heckling) you wouldn't have had nearly the show you got...it would have been plain, like putting in a studio recording of a live show.
The songs are amazing, wonderful, awesome...but it's what happens between the songs that makes the night something to remember. I can't remember the exact setlist from 98, but I sure do remember Ed booting a football into the crowd and talking about the living room set up on a truck bed. Same for 2000 when Ed said if "that little fucker George W Bush gets in, we'll be moving [to Canada]"
Sure there is always that one person in your local area that annoys you on a personal level. On night 1, there was a couple from Buffalo behind me and the chick sang along with _every_ song off key. Oh well...it happens, it was still an amazing show for me.
Don't go to a concert expecting a studio recording.
I completley disagree with you and really do not understand your logic.
I'm paying money to watch Eddie perform and sing songs. Not hear some idol worshiping fratboy fuck try to have a conversation with Eddie...or scream out requests all night for "Jeremy" "Black" "State of Love and Trust" and other songs that have absolutley no chance of being played.
Heckling and yelling out stupid ass song requests while Eddie is trying to tell a story, or preparing to go into another song adds absolutley nothing to the evening, or concert experience. It does nothing but disturb the holy shit out of everyone in the building including the performer on stage.
Some of the song requests from the crowd that night were completley moronic as were alot of the comments made. Like the asshole that yelled out: "How far can you throw Eddie"???? everyone in the crowd was like....What?
Why would someone even yell that out??? It made absolutley no sense.
Eddie was annoyed by alot of these idiots too.
Remember the guy who interupted Eddie early on while he was trying tell the story about the Mike Watt tour and being handed a bootleg copy of Neil Young at Massey Hall show?
Something along the lines of:
Eddie: "11 years ago"....
Heckler: "No it wasn't"
Eddie (angry): "You Don't even know the Fucking Story Man"!!
He also told the crowd several times at the begining he was the one "Driving"
Later on he told the crowd that alot of the shouting may be "uncomfortable" for alot people around them and that they should refrain from screaming out requests.
Another time he told someone in the first few rows who kept shouting out requests "To not even bother"
I don't know..but to me the message couldn't have been more clear that this type of behavior wasn't welcomed by Eddie or anyone else in the audience.
Just because the audience is quiet and paying attention to the music doesn't make it a lame crowd...It actually enhances the show.Acoustic shows are different than Arena Rock Shows. I thought that this would be very obvious and without saying...but alot of people seem to have difficulty connecting the dots on that one.0 -

I think that was the worst comment, and very rude to someone who was going to perform. Ed said 'remember there's a woman on stage'.

I just had to make a comment on this again..
I agree, funniest post on this thread..
And I know we talked about it, but Mr Green shirt in the left balcony from T.O night 1 being the biggest looser ever. He thought her was soooo cool getting the crowd going before the show, then afterwards walking around with his shades on thinking he was a legend.
After the show, I just looked at him and shook my head..
Can we say loooooooooser!
Now that was your typical frat boy, prolly down from London, right out of the Businesss program at Western!I Still remember lining up at an HMV in Calgary for Ten!!!0 -

I'll NEVER understand why anyone wears shades at night or inside??? I think it's to hide some deep insecurity that keeps them from looking the World in the eye.

lol, Elway you are absolutly correct, he was a tool, he was yelling out stuff early, but was more quiet towards the latter half of the show, I was watching him for a bit, I guess I missed what he did to get the crowd before the show as I was in the bar, what did he do ?1998 ~ Barrie

it was a fun night man...chill out.

Sure, for all the song requests he didn't play, and at the beginning he said he was driving "for now" half-indicating that later he would take requests...which he did, and played Patriot, which everyone loved. For that one special, rare-ish song, you had to put up with various people yelling Lukin, Footsteps, etc. So what, big deal.
Aug 12th and 13th were gems, and I mean every part of the show, including the opening act, songs and all the spaces in between.0 -
Derrick, I totally agree with you, and you have nailed all the points I would have mentioned. There is no way anyone can say that Eddie didn't know what he was in for. He managed the hecklers perfectly and was having a blast doing it. There's also no way I will remember half of the setlist off the top of my head a year from now, but I certainly won't forget how hilarious the following banter was:
"Eddie, how did he ride his bike?" - in response to Eddie's story of the one-legged man with the garbage can on the front of his bicycle, a legend I've heard of for years. I forget Eddie's exact response, something about the bike wobbling back and forth, but he laughed for a good 10 seconds before he did. The audience was laughing hysterically.
"Eddie, play at my wedding!"
"Just be thankful you're getting married!"
The whole El-gin theatre & pissing on Massey Hall conversation, which felt like it lasted a half hour. I was a bit upset when it ended because it was so funny.
"Eddie what band do you play in?"
"Stone Temple Pilots." Well-played.
"I, uhhh, don't know the chords. But it sort of sounds Chinese when you play it fast, doesn't it?" After my & someone on the floor's request to hear Soon Forget during Night II when Ed picked up the ukulele.
The arm wrestle conversation that he mentioned after a couple song requests, and someone yelling for them to shut up.
A few comments from the audience on Night I, and Eddie speaking to them, "Sorry guys, I didn't hear you."
"More than that."
"Oh, you don't even know the fucking story, man! EXACTLY 11 years ago... Okay, 12."
How can you claim that ruined the show? I agree that a few comments were totally unappropriate, but most of the clever ones added a degree of uniqueness to the night. The requests of "Believe You Me" on Night I and "Patriot" on Night II were priceless. Personally, I tend to refrain from heckling, but it's all about timing, and being respectful while doing it."What stays in Nipissing, well, stays in Nipissing I guess..."0 -
Great Derrick!!
I'm sure all the people talking over Eddie and shouting out "State of Love and Trust" "Crazy Mary" and "Black" throughout the entire show will really translate well and add a "Special Quality" to whatever bootleg or audience recording comes from this.
I can't wait to hear the audiences voices and idiotic comments over top of all of my favorite songs from these shows.
Yeah...I'm sure it will enhance my experience.Derrick wrote:SoLaT is awesome acoustic and could be done very well solo. We've seen Ed perform and sing songs many times in the past...this was a chance for something a little more intimate with the audience.
Hate to break it to you friend...but "State of Love and Trust" has and will not get played solo acoustic by Eddie during this tour....It's a stupid request...as is "Black"...as is "Crazy Mary"...and "Do the Evolution".
Perhaps you should pay more attention to detail...none of these songs have been played on this or the West Coast tour nor were they written by Eddie alone. The only Pearl Jam songs he will play...or has been playing...are the that he wrote.

OK it was too funny actually. In his druken' stupid self, He stood up and yelled Ed-die just as the crowd was actually quieter for a few seconds. A few people actually acknowledged this moron and from there he thought he was liked and kept it up. Started with like multiple chants of Eddie, then went into stupid things about Pearl Jam being the best, then actually helped orchestrate a full Eddie chant, and from there it all just went to his head and he was making stupid hand gestures and half ass comments..
It was too funny, he sat down and you could see him talking to his friends like he thought he just got up and made a speech in front of millions.
Funniest thing is most people were laughing at him, not with him...
Total Moron, just like the stupid bimbo who asked Ed to play at her wedding..Then after he cut her down, she tried to sneak the actual date into it..
These people just make me laugh. Funny thing is if you put them on the spot and asked them to name 10 PJ songs not including any of the hits, I bet they'd answer, well hell they wouldn't, they would just go on their stupid rants again to make it like they are fans...
makes me laugh...
I could rant about these morons forever, its too funny!I Still remember lining up at an HMV in Calgary for Ten!!!0 -

Someone earlier stated that they saw that guy passed out in a drunken stupor near the end of the show...that's classic.
I hope he had an aweful hangover0 -

I could see that actually as when I passed him about 15 mins after the show, it kinda looked like he just woke up.....also looked like his PJ shirt was brand new. I'm betting he bought it 30mins before the show at the local head shop...
Made up example of stupid stuff coming from this morons mouth.....Eddddddddie man, your sooooo coooooooool, Pearl jam man, the best everrrrrrrr. You meant so much to my life when I first got initiated in my fraternity at Western man,,, I mean we played your music like all the time, what was that song, Ron Jeremy or something, yeah that's it, like everyday on the frat house boombox...
That was like 8 years ago man, and we still play it everyday on the frat house boombox...
You like my shades man? I am the coolest, did you hear me man at the show, like everyone loved me, i was the coolest thing. Edddddie would be so proud man.....
