There's a new arena opening in Brooklyn...for which pro team is it for and where exactly in Brooklyn? That was once my home loong time ago.

Hmmmm, well if it is for the Nets does that mean they are going to change their city name?

not the point...the big east will be a greatly diminished conference once everyting is played out. they'll probably be the one's playing brooklyn.
the conference as we've known it for the last 3 decades is no more. it's bullshit.www.myspace.com0 -

There was an article I read today about how Nova was trying to get in the ACC but had no shot because of football. Then there was talk about creating a catholic conference but that would be terrible and about as good as the A 10.
It's going to be really strange. I do hope UConn ends up in the ACC so it isn't just manufactured rilvaries for Syracuse.0 -

 this is a sad time. i don't think people realize that this conference is on the verge of/in the middle of armegeddon. it will never look the same.
syracuse not playing in the big east tourney at msg? msg was like their home away from home. the acc commish is now talking about moving the acc tourney to new york. i fucking hate this.
and it's the basketball centric catholic schools like nova, st johns, and g town that will suffer the most.
dana o'neil sums this up perfectly. she used to write in philly about nova and the big 5 a lot. she knows her shit:

I tend to agree with this that the Big East Will be deminished because the BE ruled the the Northeast and and mainly NYC players. In many ways this sucks greatly for schools like Georgetown but helps a powerhouse like the hideous Dukies.

I agree a bit. I mean this is obviously a good move for the Syracuse basketball program, with all the moves and the way things are going. It's just going to be really weird. Maybe it's nostalgia but it seems weird. I would hope the ACC tourney moves games to NYC.
It does really hang Nova out to dry, probably the worst of any other program.0 -

PeaceThat's what the Maryland Terps students say to the Dukies. You can ONLY love Duke if you went there or had one your kids attend school there. What am I saying I was accepted to go but it was too expensive and i STILL can't stand that school.

This is from my local newspaper. The website won't let you look at the article unless you have a subscription. So I had to type it all out.
BC working to bar UConn from ACC
UConn President Susan Herbst was far removed from the lawsuit filed against Boston College and the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2003, but she is trying to mend those lingering wounds as she fights to put her school in the best position in the conference shuffle.
According to sources, BC is not willing to allow UConn into the ACC without a major fight and is working to garner enough votes to block a move if and when it is considered. Herbst has attempted to smooth that rift by reaching out to BC President the Rev. William P. Leahy recently, a sources said.
BC still has lingering anger about the lawsuit, filed by former Connecticut attorney general Richard Blumenthal in 2003. Among those directly sued for conspiring "to weaken the Big East" were BC Athletic Director Gene DeFilippo and ACC Commissioner John Swofford. Miami and Virginia Tech, who also left for the ACC in 2003, were not sued.
BC, a charter member of the Big East, was sued because it chose to follow Virginia Tech and Miami, schools that did not become Big East members until the football league began in 1991.
UConn men's basketball coach Jim Calhoun added fuel to the feud when he vowed never to play Boston College again.
A source within the ACC said neither DeFilippo nor Swofford has forgotten about the lawsuit and UConn's part in it. However, the ACC source also said Herbst is highly respected within the ACC as an administrator and educator. Herbst earned her undergraduate degree from Duke and was a public policy professor at Georgia Tech.
Calls made to DeFilippo's office seeking comment were not returned.
Syracuse and Pittsburgh last week became the latest Big East defectors to the ACC, possibly irreparably weakening the Big East. Big East officials and school presidents held an emergency meeting in New York on Tuesday night to discuss the future of the league. Schools vowed to try to keep the league together, but sources said Rutgers and UConn hedged their bets by also informing Big East officials that they will do what is in the best interests of their schools.
Swofford has said that the ACC is in no hurry to get to 16 members. The league may be waiting to see what Texas and Notre Dame do before making another move. There is no doubt that UConn highly desires a spot in the ACC.
According to a source, BC's anger toward UConn is not the only reason the ACC has reservations about UConn. Among the reasons cited are the men's basketball team's low APR and the recent NCAA penalties levied against the program. Those could be minor issues in the long run.
UConn's academic standing has improved greatly in recent years, solidified recently by its No. 19 ranking among U.S. News & World Reports' top public universities.
And the ACC has some programs that have afoul of the NCAA. Miami is embroiled in an NCAA violation mess, North Carolina is in the process of self-imposing a number of penalties for violations in its football program, and Florida State and Clemson have run afoul of the NCAA in the past.Shows: 6.27.08 Hartford, CT/5.15.10 Hartford, CT/6.18.2011 Hartford, CT (EV Solo)/10.19.13 Brooklyn/10.25.13 Hartford
